Wow, coolest toy ever

By Wowy

If only my other gear could be as cool as this lazer pointer. I zip tied it onto my dive light, which allows me to first aim it at my buddy's eyes and then turn it on. It's more of a surprise this way. Now I just need to find a good way to mount it on my spear gun. Bottom line, between this and my Oceanic Datamask I'm set for life.

Underwater Laser Pointer

By BrianW

Works fine and seems well constructed but it just doesnt seem to have a lot of power. Pretty much useless in less than 15 vis during the day. Havent tried it on a night dive yet (I have high hopes for that...)

Looking to spot unique marine life during your underwater excursions with your dive buddy, or while leading a group of divers? The Underwater Laser Pointer brings the underwater world into sharp focus. Not just for finding fascinating critters, this laser pointer adds accuracy and excitement to your dives.

Powered by two AA alkaline batteries (included), the Underwater Laser Pointer offers a bright, easily visible beam, perfect for identifying curious creatures or intriguing objects during your underwater exploration. With a depth rating of 200' (60m), and an output wavelength of 600-650 nm, it easily reaches across distances of 1,640 to 2,625' (500 to 800m) on land.

Built with convenience in mind, it comes with an ergonomic easy-grip handle, a swift on/off swivel switch, and a high-quality, durable plastic case. It also includes an attached wrist lanyard for secure handling. Outshining its competition, the pointer boasts a Red Class III laser, three times as powerful as other models, and a wavelength specifically chosen for underwater use. Its compact design measures just 5.9" (15cm), making it perfect to stow away in a BCD pocket underwater or a pants pocket on land.

CAUTION: Do not aim into eyes!

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Shopper  what is the light output of this thing?
ROBERT B  Not sure how laser output is measured, but this works well in all light conditions. It works great to point out things to buddy or others both day and night.
Shopper  Can you see the beam or just the dot on the object your pointing at?
MICHAEL M  Just the dot you are pointing at. It works as advertised, but not quite as bright as I had hoped. Used it on the first couple of dives prior to going back to the finger pointing method.
TODD D  Not really able to see the beam at all (unless the water is really cloudy for the beam to bounce of off), and you can hardly notice the dot unless you know where to look. Very hard to use to point things out to other people.
NATALIE M  In extremely cloudy water with a lot of particulate, you can see the beam hitting some of the particulate but in clear water you will only see the dot.
JOHN J  It's just like in air. In a smoky room, or dusty in the air, you will see both the beam and the dot. Seeing the beam is called the "Tindle effect." In turbid water you will see the beam bounced off of the tiny partcles in the water--might sparkle. In the Sargasso Sea, visibility about 60 meters, you probably will not see the beam, and it's too deep to see any dot. In Antarctica, under sea ice in October, with visibility about 200 meters, you'll just see the dot. Elsewhere it's in between with regards to the beam.
ROBERT H  It depends on the amount of particulate in the water. In nice clear water, you only see the dot. It the water is cloudy (bad viz) you can see the beam.....you really don't want to see it.
TERRI S  Not really unless in very shallow water (less then 10 feet).
BILL N  What color is the beam? Is it green, red, or something else?
ARDI K  red
ROBERT H  Red and reasonably powerful. I use it when I lead dives to point out interesting creatures. We have sand dabs that are perfectly camouflaged to the sand bottom. Unless you see them settle, they are impossible to find. If you used any kind of pointer, they would take off and disappear. The laser is a perfect way to point them out to the divers.
KUNTAL J  The beam is RED. Good luck with using this under water Laser Pointer, I use it regularly on my dives.
TIMOTHY B  Red beam
YAN G  The laser is Red.
MARILYN D  The bean is red and it makes it very easy to "point out" what you are trying to get your dive buddy to see. The only problem I had with the laser was that an unscrupulous crew actually stole the pointer right off of my BC, go figure. It was a great pointer while I had it and I ordered another one.
Shopper  One more question i for got to ask. If i do get it, like when i take it underwater do i have to like keep turning it off and on so it doesnt heat up?
LeisurePro S  No you can leave it on.
Shopper  Can u take the laser underwater in like lakes that arent that clean and wont ruin them? And if u can, will u have to like keep cleaning the lens on it or something? And another thing how durable is it? Does it break easy
LeisurePro S  will work like any underwater flashlight and will not require any speacial handeling. Unit is durable.
