Good, functional pole spear tip

This is an affordable, functional, effective pole spear slip-tip. Works well on our local Lings, Cabezon, and rockfish.

Slip tips add versatility to a pole spear. A slip tip allows the use of a pole spear with larger fish and those that will put up a bit of a fight without the worry of damaging your pole spear. A slip tip is attached to a cable that once you have penetrated the fish with the spear the tip like a spear guns break-away tip is tethered on a cable and breaks free from the poles shaft, allowing the cable to absorb the energy of the thrashing fish and not the pole.

Slip Tips do wear out and eventually get dull. You need not replace the entire mechanism when this occurs you need only to replace the tip. JBL's 3" (76mm) Slip Tip Point is for the JBL890 Complete 14" (356mm) Slip Tip. The Rock Tip Point is made from hardened 17-4 stainless. The tips rear fixed barbs cause the point to turn sideways after entering the fish so it will hang on no matter how hard the fight while minimizing damage to your pole spear shaft. The low-profile design allows for pinpoint accuracy and dependable deployment. Don't trust a once in a lifetime fish to anything else. Great save-a-dive-kit item.

Shopper  Does this item come with cable or nylon chord?
PAUL W  this item comes with the PVC coated Wire Stand shown in the image. the small rubber band is also included but will eventually wear out. Easily replaced with average rubber band. Word of advice, put lock tight on the threads before attaching. bigger fish will spin this shaft off the pole if you don't. grouper swam away with my first one.

Shopper  Will this tip fit on other pole spears other than jbl?
Steve S  As long as the other pole spears have 6mm threads this will work well.
DMITRY S  It is a standard 6mm thread, so it is pretty universal. I am not using it on a JBL spear. If going after fish under 15 lbs or so, I recommend replacing the cable with 200lb Bow fishing string. The cable tears up some meat on smaller fish. Great tip though, been using since I bought it exclusively. If you hunt against a lot of rocks bring 2 on a trip in case one gets blunted, which takes many direct rock hits.

Fernando N  Im buying a JBL polespear. Will this fit the JBL Breakdown pole spear (2D72) with out the need for any type of adapter?
ADAM H  Yes it will! I have the same JBL gold, breakdown polespear. it will thread right onto the end. IT IS GREAT! honestly, the only pain in the butt is getting the fish off once it is skewered!
ROBERT G  Yes, it's a 6mm thread. Any 6mm threaded tip will fit.
JOHN F  I believe everything JBL sells has a 6 mm thread. Handy because you can change tips between the guns and pole spear. I experimented with slip tips for a while and this is one of the better, especially for the price. Good Luck! John H

KIRBY M  I used to have a gold JBL three piece polespear with the same slip tip and if fit well. Just to be sure, I recommend you check JBL's website for dimensions.

ERIC L  Nope. It's a 5/16-24 thread. Cristspears sells compatible slip tips for the Puig P/S. I haven't seen any adapters either that convert 5/16 to a 6mm.
RANDY W  Not sure if it does as I don't know what mm threads his pole spear takes. Better to ask where you got the pole spear from. 6mm threads is pretty standard though and could fit, but play it safe and ask the manufacturer or the seller what threads the pole has.

ADAM H  It would surprise me if it did, but it might. I am not very familiar with the Manny (although it is a Great spear) look and see if the manny is a 6mm thread. This slip tip is a 6mm and female fitting. Hope this helps
WILLIE D  I'm not familiar with the thread size of the Manny Puig pole spear, but the tip comes in 6mm or 7mm threads.
DAVID F  I'm not sure if it fits on that spear honestly. I made a custom spear and ended up having a machine shop make a special adapter for mine to work. If you think this tip is right for you just do that. I think it was well worth the trouble. Just make sure the adapter they make is with good materials that are very strong and resist corrosion and rust. David
