torpedo float flag

By David R.

Works well. Can be held onto while at the surface which is something I couldn't do with the older style on a ball float. Inflates quickly.

Nice buoy.

Very useable, efficient, weight pocket avoids snags.

The Innovative Scuba Concepts Torpedo Buoy is sleek and hydrodynamic in shape to glide through the water when towed or going through surf. Increase your dive safety with this bright orange buoy with flag. Constructed of sturdy nylon and thermoplastic urethane (TPU) fabric, the torpedo buoy is built for minimum drag in the water. The torpedo buoy measures 33" x 10" (84cm x 25.4cm) inflated and features four D-ring attachment points, oral inflator valve, traditional red and white diver down fag, separate add water pocket for additional ballast and 60' (18.3m) of high-visibility nylon line with 2-non-corrosive plastic gate clips.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

DAVID q  size & weight of the scuba torpedo buoy?
DAVIAN K  I used a 5lb solid from a weight belt. Works perfect.
Shopper  Can this buoy be used to tire out a larger fish like cobra or amberjack?
Marc B  Yes it absolutely could be used for that. I would get a stronger attachment line to use. The included line was ok but seemed kind of light.
Karen D  No, I don't think the hardware on it would be strong enough to handle that application
KEVIN F  It will offer some resistance and possible help to tire a fish, but that is not it's intended use. It should not solely be relied upon to accomplish that.
Kip H  I haven’t used this in the ocean, fresh water only as a dive marker buoy but I have no doubt it would work for spearing large fish.
DAVIN H  How does the oral inflators work. It is very rigid, does not turn or compress and I cannot force any air into the valve ....tips?
ALEXANDER W  there is a valve near the top of the inflator behind the plastic cross. I guess it is somehow stick to the tube. I have no problem to orally inflate it, but to deflate i need to press it with some thin object
MICHAEL L  I simply blow into it like a straw to inflate. To deflate, you take the down standing leg of the cap and bend it and insert it into the valve stem and compress the float.
GEORGE P  How big is the flag?
JAMES G  It is 8" x 8"
CARLOS A  Too small ! Not legal in FL.
MARIO S  The flag is small maybe 9 inches. I never used it.
HUGH C  Does the flag dangle freely or does it stay stiff so that it doesn't collapse when the wind isn't blowing?
ALEXANDER W  The flag is small and stiff, so even without wind blowing it still looks like on the picture.
ARVIND R  The flag is of a robust plastic based material and due to its relatively small size it doesn't need the wind to keep in a deployed position. I've never had problems with it in dead calm conditions. However it is not a solid slab of plastic. It is more like a thick nylon type material.
LEVI S  Dangles free it's not stiff
HUGH C  Thanks for your answer Levi. I believe in the state of Alabama it has to be flown fully (not draping but as if the wind was blowing it full flight). That is the way the flag is to be displayed as I understand it here in Alabama.
DAVID S  The flag is fairly stiff but it does droop a little.
HUGH C  Thanks for the reply David. The way I understand the law here in Alabama is that the flag cannot droop but must be fully displayed (stiff) at all times.
WALTER L  It's a rigid post so it stays up quite well.
