Review & Sizing Comparison

By EVAN L.

Overall great farmer john wetsuit. I bought this 3mm wetsuit for 70+ air temp, 59+ cold water spring/summer watersports and I think it fits the purpose well. Wetsuit material is the softest and stretchiness I have tried to date. Very little movement restriction in either size I tried with the skin clinging you'd expect from a wetsuit. The stretchiness coupled with the Velcro shoulder strap, no zip entry makes taking the wetsuit on-off a breeze compared to other suits. Sizing My frame: 6'3" 1...

thermoprene rocks

Best fitting wetsuit for the in between size. stretchy material and it's very easy to get on and off.

Divers seeking a great value will appreciate Thermoprene's balance of performance and price. The material combination delivers greater flexibility and improved features not found in standard neoprene wetsuits, yet at a reasonable cost, perfect for the cost-conscious buyer. Thermoprene is crafted from a high-quality neoprene and a low pill fabric. It has 75% more stretch than standard neoprene, so while it is not as flexible as Henderson's Thermoprene Pro or TherMAXX lines of products, it still boasts significant comfort characteristics. The 180% stretch Thermoprene is noticeably easy to don, pulling over the shoulders and around the torso with less huff and puff than standard wetsuits. Also, the fabric's exterior stands up extremely well to the wear of BC straps and weight belts with its pill/abrasion-resistant exterior laminate.

One of the most versatile systems in wetsuit design, the classic john and jacket combo gives divers the option of layering up for cold waters or using a single layer in warmer climates. The base layer of this combo, the Thermoprene 3mm John is prized for its durability. The John has seams that are glued and sewn, which seals off stitched areas and drastically reduces water entry. A simple hook-and-loop closure at the shoulder. Freedom Flex kneepads guard the lower leg from bumps and scrapes without inhibiting natural movements and the spine pad adds warmth. Each Henderson wetsuit benefits from five decades of design experience. The Thermoprene cut allows for an optimal fit while visually enhancing the diver's physique. Creature comforts include Lycra trim, spine and lumbar pads. Flexibility, comfort and core warmth are all hallmarks of the Thermoprene John. Suit is available in multiple sizes and is black in color.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  return policy?
darrick c  Hello, here is the link to our return policy: https://www.scuba.com/g/return-policy.
Shopper  Do you carry a XL short?
JOE C  Cut off the bottom of the legs and keep the ends of the newly shortened legs in your boots (it's just rubber). Or let the extra leg length be; may create a fold on the thighs, not uncomfortable and any loss of warmth or mobility is minimal (or none). Generously sized so XL should not restrict your breathing, don't worry about the leg length. Don't be afraid to attack with EMT scissors. Don't buy anything that will restrict your breathing (anything too small).
Mario C  No we do not.
Kendall M  Does thermoprene have the same amount of buoyancy as neoprene?
CHRISTOPHER C D  It's Henderson's neoprene blend, so yes it does. I have the 3mm bottom and 5mm top both in XL. I've never dunked them to determine total weight needed to sink the suit, but it is comparable to any suit of the same thickness.
SAMMY M  Maybe 1-2 lbs less for a full 3mm one piece suite compared to a regular neoprene suite. But that is based mostly on weighing out students in fresh water, so not very scientific.
PAMELA M  Yes.
MARK S  It appears to have the same buoyancy, I have not changed my amount of weight.
JONATHAN M  would say slightly more buoyancy but it is likely due to the doubled up core with a farmer John set up versus a one piece. I love this set up and I use more than my sem-dry because of the ease of donning. Water in the 50s might be too much to wear the FJ setup but anything more should be fine.
STEVE F  Yes it's very similar
Shopper  What shirt goes with this?
PETER T  I use a long sleeve merino lined rash guard called lava core. It is neturallly buoyant and I have one with a regular tee shirt collar and one with a quarter zip front that has a short collar to it. Very comfortable when doing multiple boat dives it tropical waters.
PETER T  I just returned from Playa de Carman in Mexico where I did 4 reef dives and 2 cenote dives with the 3 mil farmer john that I used with a long sleeve lava core merino lined top and was very comfortable. I did wear a 3 mil hood to dive in the cenote for added warmth and was not cold at all. I hope this helped with your decision. I always wear the 3 mil farmer john diving in warm water even with just a dive skin it's great.
KRISTY K  I wear my 3 mm long-sleeved shorty over top.
GLEN M  I use this shorty, I believe they are made to go together. http://www.leisurepro.com/p-hndtls3fm/henderson-thermoprene-3-mm-mens-ls-shorty-jacket-black I guess mine is going on 3 years old now, still going strong. I have worn the shorty by itself as well. I have been happier with this wetsuit combination than any other wet suit I've owned, which have been a few. I bought a drysuit last year, so it's either this or dry. Hope this helps you out.
CHRISTOPHER C D  I have a 5mm shortie that I wear independtly or over the 3mm FJ. Very easy to take on/off and versatile. I have also worn just the FJ with a rash guard in warm water.
DAVID H  How do I know what size to order?
PHOENIX M  The size charts are fairly true. I am 5'11" 240lbs and wear a 2XL. It fits properly and comfortably. I have used both the Farmer John and the Jacket separately without any fit problems.
PAUL H  There is a chart that leisure pro has that was pretty accurate. I am 6 ft 4 and weigh 240. I ordered the 3x at it fits very well.
PETER T  David, I bought this farmer John to replace a Henderson 3 mm farmer John that I use in tropical waters (80 + degrees). i am a certified master diver (not to be confused with dive master) 6' 2" and weigh 235 lbs. I tried on an XXL which is the size of my old suit which was very comfortable and found it was very snug and ended up getting a 3XL which was a little too roomy, however I kept it as I only use it as a glorified dive skin to protect my legs. I find it does provide an extra level of comfort and warmth especially when doing multiple boat dives. I hope this has been more helpful than confusing, either way Leisure Pro will will make sure you are happy with your choice.
CHRISTOPHER C D  I am 6-1 and 205 with a 35 inch waist, 32 inch inseam and wear xl shirts. I have an xl farmer John and it fits very well.
JOSHUA F  go to henderson's website. they have a extensive size chart availible I bought a large. I weigh 190 at 5'-9" with 36"waist. fits great. Leisure Pro is very easy to work with regarding exchanges to make sure you get the perfect size.
JOHN B  If you have rented wetsuits before you should relativly know what size you are. These are run true to their size.
