Perfect line cutter

By Laura B.

 -  Naperville, IL, US

Small, lightweight and attaches to my webbing. Seems to be holding up well with very little rust after over 100 dives. Replaceable blades are nice too. Good for lines, I keep EMT shears on me for the heavier stuff.

The forefront of Emergency Cutting Tool (E.C.T.) dynamics and design, the EEZYCUT Trilobite was developed for divers, mariners, mountaineers, extreme sports adventurers and rescue service providers who demand a tool that delivers a swift, safe, efficient cut. There are numerous activities from scuba diving to parachuting that require an Emergency Cutting Tool (E.C.T.) as a mandatory piece of equipment, to be carried on every activity specifically for self-rescue or for the assistance of others.

EEZYCUT Trilobite E.C.T. is a unique line cutting tool that is rated to cut line up to 0.31" (8mm) thick, but it can cut up to 0.47" (12mm). Simple place the line in the safety edge groove on either side of the tool and pull the line deeper in the groove and it quickly cuts through the line fast and efficiently. You can also cut nylon webbing quick and easily with this unique tool. Tool comes with a nylon webbing pouch that can be mounted on standard 2" (5.1cm) nylon webbing making it easy to attach to your BCD, weight belt or other webbing of your equipment. There are four color choices from all black, yellow/black, orange/black and orange/yellow. Tool comes with a set of 440A stainless steel replacement blades that are easy to install with minimum of tools. The EEZYCUT Trilobite is proudly made in the USA.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Will it clear TSA?
WARREN R  i believe it would, since the blade is completely shrouded, but if the TSA agent wants to be a hard-ass, they would pull it from you. Mine is affixed to my BC and I always send it in my checked bag with no problems.
LEWIS A  Yes it will clear TSA
MARILYN M  I have always had it checked. I'm not sure.
CHARLIE L  I took one to mexico as carry on. It doesn't look like a knife. Not sure if it just went unnoticed. It does rust really fast if exposed to salt water and left in the sheath...
DON V  No.
LEWIS A  It is supposed to be able to clear TSA. Mine has cleared precheck status in the USA, but not TSA from internationally. We usually just place ours in our checked bag.
ELIZABETH G  Mine went into checkin baggage, so I don’t know.
Jeff R  Is this cutter generally used as a backup or can it replace a knife?
JOAO P  definitely a backup
JOHN D  I always carry a knife when fishing no mater where I go but I attached the eezycut on my flotation vest when kayaking for emergencies in case I get hung up in a leash, rope or fishing line. It may be faster than a knife and when something goes wrong it can't hurt to have options. I wouldn't use it to replace a knife but it could get you out of trouble faster in an emergency. John Dvorak
XU D  I always use it as my primary cutter but my instructor told me that I should bring a knife and use this as backup
MARILYN M  It doesn't replace a knife. I use it for tangled fishing line I come across when diving.
GLENN W  This is an excellent line cutter. Will cut also cut a weight belt easily or any of the webbing on a BC.
J A  I use it as a primary with a set of shears as backup but it is what you feel comfortable with. I had to use mine to cut myself out of fishing line when someone fishing over me caught me and it worked as advertised. In the ocean I always carry a knife but not in the lake I dive the most.
WARREN R  I would use it as a backup and keep my dive knife. These are designed to cut small diameter rope or fishing line you might encounter diving in a lake
MARK K  This product is designed to be an easy to use compact line cutter. I have used this on multiple occasions when cleaning up reefs or freeing someone that was snagged on a line. Personally, I never saw the need to have a knife on a dive, but all the dives I do are dive vacations in the tropics.
GUSTAVO Z  It is as good as a knife for general cutting (nets, lines, ropes), safer for underwater usage and accepted in dive spots that's don't approve knives. I use mine as the primary cutter, attached on my dive computer.
LEWIS A  Jeff, I have used this to replace the knife that I usually carry. If you ever dive in a marine sanctuary, you will notice that standard knives are not allowed. However, because this is defined as a line or safety cutter,it is allowed in marine sanctuary due to the fact that it is not a prying tool.
CORINNE B  This is just for emergencies if you get tangled up in a guide line in an overhead environment i.e. cave diving, wreck diving
DOMINIC F  It does not replace a knife, best used for cutting fishing line
DON V  Depends on what you use a knife for. I use this as backup for wreck diving and it cuts through monofilament lines pretty well. I use my knife for sawing, prying and more heady duty cutting.
Perry D  Does this come with a sheath?
LEWIS A  yes, it comes with a nylon sheath, that the tool attaches to via a hook and loop closure system.
WARREN R  Yes
HB R  yes
TERRY H  Yes it does. It comes with a sheath with a loop for a leg/arm strap.
JEFF R  Yes. It comes with a sheath with a belt loop.
WALTER H  Yes it does and it Velcros nicely to my bcd
Joshua V  Yes
JOHN T  It does, but I found it hard to work and it rusted in place. I no longer use it.
DOMINIC F  Yes, attaches easily to BCD strap
STEVE L  When I bought mine it did. I can't imagine that it would not. It's a great tool that takes very little space on your bcd.
Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
PHILIP S  Needed a safe and simple cutting tool for diving.
M S  Excellent tool for cutting.
MICHIEL V  I like this item
SALVATORE L  recommended
TIMOTHY J  Safety item. Highly rated for cutting small to moderate sized line and entanglements with no risk to self or others due to design. Replaceable blades, simplicity of design.
GUSTAVO A  great redundant cutting tool to strap to a waist/shoulder
EDWARD Q  Light weight, replacement razors included, easily fits on my bcd, and is easily deployed.
KATHY R  Good idea. Safer than exposed blade.
Joshua J  Affordable, safe, redundant cutting tool.
ELIZABETH Y  good reviews
RYAN H  As a back-up for when knives may not be allowed on a dive.
GEORGE S  great tool, easy to mount on BC for travel.
DAVID B  The product reviews were very complimentary of this item especially from divers listed as professional or advanced.
JAY N  Solo diver gear and as a backup for my knife and scissors (I carry all three, especially when wreck diving)
