Seems spendy until I have it in my hands. It is well made and all of there tips have held up well even in the face of Rock shots. Easy to re-sharpen. Solid penetration of fish and easy to remove. This one is especially good on Ling cod
Let's get right to the point, these tips are designed to punch through even the toughest fish, penetrating thick skin and hard bone. Constructed of hardened 17-4 stainless with a razor-sharp finish they'll make short work of just about any game fish. Low-profile, stainless wings are quickly deployed and angled to grab tight and hold on. Sliding wing retainer allows for easy removal of fish.
JBL's patented (#4685239) rotating design allows for 360° spin, providing greater holding power and minimizing the chance of your point unthreading from the shaft as a result of a fish "rolling" in battle. With the 4" (102mm) wing span and 3/8" (9.5mm) standard profile opens a large hole for easy passage of barbs through the fish, one shot is all you will ever need with this tip. Three cutting edges hand sharpened to a precision provides a massive wound channel making it ideal for open water game. Tip is designed for medium to large fish and comes in both 6mm or 7mm thread size.

As long as the thread is 6mm or 7mm, it will fit any shaft with that measure. They are very good for spearfishing.

I purchased a 7mm JBL Rotating Tri-Cut tip for a mares gun. The JBL guns
traditionally use standard not metric threads, but I'm unfamiliar with the
smaller JBL's so I'm not sure what thread is on the 38 Special shaft.

It should fit both guns. The 42 or 48 cm is the shaft length. You need to find out the thickness of the shaft to find out which tip is compatable with your gun. Usually a 6mm tip is the most common for spear guns

it depends on the thread size on the shaft I believe the jbl tips are 7mm thread

These tips will fit most any gun, this tip is threaded for an 7MM shaft with an adapter to 6mm - check your shaft the bigger guns are usually 7mm, if its an 8mm you will need an adapter.
