Alpha 8 Octopus

By William I.

 -  Chattanooga, TN, US

When I found that parts to repair my old octopus second stage were no longer available, I purchased an Alpha 8 octopus for my system. I am using it, at present, while diving at Grand Cayman Island. I have found, by using it as my primary, that it is a very easy breathing second stage. I highly recommend the Alpha 8 second stage as both a primary, and octopus second stage.

I bought this as my Octo and it serves the purpose perfectly. I just went through my cert and I was the only one with my own gear. This reg had a different flow to it. I'm sure that was due to it being new but still great product and excited to have it as my back up.

Alpha 8 Octopus: With a bright yellow 36" (91.4 cm) LP hose and matching cover, the Alpha 8 Second Stage is a highly visible octopus (alternate second stage) that is easy on the budget.

The Alpha 8's super sturdy ABS/polycarbonate housing weighs just 6 oz. (170 g) and measures 2.9" (7 4 cm) in diameter. The lightweight design and anatomical mouthpiece translate into a second stage that won't cause jaw fatigue. The Alpha 8 Second Stage is a dependable downstream demand valve design. The Alpha 8 can be used with air or Nitrox mixtures up to 40% right out-of-the-box.

This product can only be shipped to U.S. addresses.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Elias G  Can you pair this with a Oceanic Alpha 10 SPX?
JOE S  YES. it will work great as an Octo for the Alpha 10
Scott M  I have been out of the water since 2010,yet scuba is still with me.. The ? that I have is: as of lately I was medical told that I have to take cumoden to help control my blood clots. I have only used nitrox to dive if you were deemed to have the same thing that I have would you still dive????
Scott M  THANX FOR YOUR WILLINGNESS TO ANSWER ME,I DO TAKE MAGNESIME TO HELP WITH MY BLOOD CLOTTING TOO,THANX AGAIN!!!!
ANNA M  I'm with Monica. And if your physician doesn't feel qualified find one that specializes in sports medicine. They will know the answer.
GARY M  I do have the alpha 8 octopus and am a factor 5 clotter, I have taken warfarin for the last 18-20 years, 3 years ago I took up scuba, just logged my 28th dive last week in Roatan, my Doctor is fine with diving, does not like my hockey playing or riding the Harley without a helmet, be smart, dive safe and welcome back to the tribe!
Monica s  I would suggest you consult a doctor who can approve your condition to dive.
Shopper  Will this reg hook to a oceanic zeta 1 st stage and work well with it?
BRETT H  I think most of the thread sizes on these are standardized.
RON B  This Octo works with most modern 1st stages. This is a nice octo and I like the yellow hose as it stands out. Good backup at a bargain price.
STEPHEN S  I dive this octo all the time. Works great. Zeta 1st stage??? Thought the Zeta was a 2nd Stage paired with a CDX 1st stage if I remember correctly. I have this octo on my CDX and had the Alpha 7 on the SP. I don't foresee a problem hooking this up to any first stage with standard regulator port sizes and intermediate pressure withing the standard range. If you're not doing super deep dives, this is a fine choice.
Shopper  Is the max flex braided hose yellow or black?
MARCUS D  The braided hose on mine is yellow, to help signify that it is the octopus. Please keep in mind that I purchased mine back in 2009. May have changed since then but most likely not.
PRESTON P  It should be yellow. It should also be a 36" for an octo. But they sent me a 30" black. As such, the braided hose sits uselessly in my gear bag for the day I need a new one.
GARRETT P  My hose is yellow, but it is not braided. I bought mine before the change, but I can say it works great. Well worth the money.
ANN H  Yellow
Shopper  Can this Octo be used in deep dives (100+ feet)?
LeisurePro S  Oceanic regulators are CE certified to a maximum operating depth of 50 M (165 FT).
