Very user-friendly BC

By John C.

I wanted a BC that was simple and streamlined-this fit the bill perfectly. This is my travel BC, mainly for Carribean diving off the cruise ship, so I didn't need lots of pockets and rings. In fact, I chose this because there aren't a lot of unnecessary storage and attachment points. I have a shoulder retractor for a flashlight and another on the left hip for my computer, a clip for my safe second on the right, and a right side pocket for the signal tube or whatever. That's all I need to be h...

The Genesis Drift BCD is a lightweight and inexpensive jacket style BCD with weight integrated system. The Drift BCD has two 8 lbs. (3.63 kg) quick release weight pockets. The weight pockets are equipped with easy to ditch just pull release handles which allows weighs to fall away. These gravity style pockets are one of the easiest to operate in a diving emergency. The BCD harness assembly consists of torso adjustable shoulder straps with a removable and adjustable sternum strap and adjustable waist strap with cummerbund. All strap buckles are squeeze-style side-release buckles for easy donning and doffing.

Buoyancy control is made easy with the Genesis power inflator mechanism with cable activated pull dump at the left shoulder. The BCD is also equipped with a lower rear right pull dump/overpressure relief valve with manual pull for trimming of buoyancy when you are inverted in the water. The Drift BCD is built from strong and durable 420D nylon exterior with a urethane lamination interior air cell with radio frequency (RF) welded seams for airtight integrity. The Drift provides from 24 lbs. to 40 lbs. (10.9 kg to 18.14 kg) of lift depending on the size. BCD is Akona Pro Kit compatible (see optional kit SKU: GNSRKL), comes with a 3/8" threaded low pressure quick disconnect hose, and owner's manual.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

JIM W  How much weight can you safety get into the pockets?
Mario C  The Drift BCD has two 8 lbs. (3.63 kg) quick release weight pockets.
CLAUDE B  Each one can easily take 8 lbs. There are also two tank band trim bags that can carry 5 lbs each.
CHRISTINE H  Does this BC have pockets? If so, where; how large; and zipped or velcro closure and any clips or D rings inside?
CLAUDE B  Yes, there is a single pocket with Velcro closure. The large capacity weight pockets drop easily with a cord. The two trim pockets for the tank strap meant I did not need a weight belt. The D rings are external. There are lots of other "pinch" connectors to customise what you attach to the jacket. It is a good BCD at a great price.
DAVID S  One pocket only. It is on the right side. 12 inches across and 9 inches deep. Velcro closure. Detachable ring inside.
WILLIAM R  Yes to all
Shopper  How much does the BCD weigh?
C D  i have an XL with Scubapro Air 2 and it weighs about 10 lbs. but it is neutrally bouyant so it doesnt really matter.
WILLIAM S  Mine is an XL an is about 8.5Lbs..
CLAUDE B  What size weights can be accommodated in each pocket?  Has anyone put weight pouches on the tank band?
KAREN K  The pockets can hold at least 5# each but pockets in back as well.
1-877-SCUBA-USA 1  Trim weights can very useful. However keep the following in mind, You do not want to put more lead on then the lift capacity of your BC. The drift has only 1 cam band to support the tank. So, too much weight, there can be an issue. LP also sells the Sherwood Avid. it has Quick release weights as well as fixed trim pockets and plenty of lift.
George V  It’s a handy travel unit. I like that you don’t need special weight pouches. Currently I’m diving in Jeju South Korea. I need 5ml wi a 3 m top. So extra weight. About 4kg in each pocket and a belt for trim.
CLAUDE B  Thanks. I am a novice diver and wonder about trim weights on the tank band. Any thoughts on that?
George V  It's a great value and is very easy to travel with. Trim is an always thing. That is, every dive you will evolve and change your diving habits. I don't use tanks weights and don't know any diver that does except as an add-on as a per-dive adjustment. If you are able to do multiple dives, ask you DM or an instructor to allow/help you work on trim. Keep making bubbles.
Shopper  Can anyone help with a sizing chart?
AARON B  In daily life when I purchase shirts or jackets I typically buy L or XL. So I guessed when I purchased this product in a size Large. I guessed right. An XL would have been way too big. So when you look at the size chart, assume it's a bit generous in providing plenty of space.
