Exccellent SMB

By Analynne S.

I bought this SMB specifically for the 2 reflective strips on top. The yellow side can be seen even on really cloudy days and the length when fully inflated is easily seen from a chaser in choppy seas. I tuck this into my back plate pad pocket so it's out of the way. You have to push in on the oral inflate and blow to inflate it, otherwise it's all pretty straight forward with the dump valve being a simple and sturdy mechanism and the 1 way seaming on the bottom. This SMB holds the air in ...

Good deal

By Sibermike7

This is large, not a little "sausage". It is exactly what I hoped it would be. I would definitely buy this again.

The DiveAlert SMB (surface marker buoy) features closed-circuit (one-way valve) construction, which prevents air spill at surface. Inflate on the surface to attract visual attention or redundant flotation. Inflate at depth to send up as a surface marker. SOLAS reflective tape (Coast Guard approved) across top of SMB creates better visibility day and night. Over-pressure valve (OPV) prevents bursting and easy air dumping. Deluxe SMB is 65" long by 8" wide (165cm x 20cm) which provides approximately 40 lbs. (18.1 kg) of lift.

Nylon strap handle on top allows for easy attachment of light or slate. 400-Denier poly-urethane coated nylon material, this SMB will last dive after dive without issue. In addition, the deluxe version has safety orange one side and florescent lime/yellow the other side, a filler nozzle for both oral and BC LP hose inflation with a small pocket that will accommodate a finger spool.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Joseph H  So, you have to unsnap (power inflator hose) fitting from BC, snap onto SMB fitting, fill SMB, unsnap hose fitting and then re-snap to BC? Hmmm
GEORGE E  simply hold back up reg.to mouth of sausage tap purge button (carefully) and your all set.
MARC O  You don't have to. It's an option you could use instead of blowing into it. Say, if you were on the surface (ie. a boat) where air is not forced into the SMB by the natural action of bubbles ascending under water. You can either blow into the valve or use your BCD inflator hose, Under water you can just hold an your alternate air source under the bottom end flaps and fill it with air, or just breathe from your reg and exhale into the bottom like any other SMB.
LAUREN S  The BCD hose does not snap into the SMB, just fits on it and Yes, you could use that method to inflate the SMB as well as using the alternate "Octopus" or even orally, so you have three different ways to inflate the SMB.
GARY G  No. You just use the inflator over the open end of the SMB. There is nothing to "snap" and unsnap. The whole process takes less than 15 secs and is very easy.
Shopper  how big is it both inflated and rolled for storage ?
Steve S  When inflated this marker buoy is 65" long by 8" wide. When rolled up it is very small. Small enough to fit in a pocket.
GARY G  It is perfect for high seas with chop. It deflates and rolls up enough to fit in my storage pouch worn on my webbing
MICHAEL A C  Rolled up it is 8" long and 3" in diameter. Inflated it is 64" tall and 14" in circumference. There are 2 reflective stripes at the top and a velcro storage pocket at the bottom as well as a nice strap to attache to your BC. The inflator is by mouth only but it fills easily and quickly-about 6 breaths I chose this after getting caught in rough water at the conclusion of a drift dive. The little one I had couldn't be seen well at all.
ROBERT G  Just measured mine. Unfurled it is 62". Rolled up 8 1/2" x 3". Larger than most SMB's. I remembered why I bought this one when I made a drift boat dive yesterday and needed to launch my SMB which only does oral inflate. 48F or 8C water after 55 minutes on my second dive it was annoying to hang at 30' (yes 20' is better but this was hassle time and pressure differential helps add inflation) and barely keep my slightly cold lips on the mouthpiece while keeping the spring-loaded slide on the mouthpiece back so the SMB would fill. My SMB has a small pouch (whistle or other small signaling device) and will inflate orally OR with a regulator and notice it has a dump valve just above. The length was a requirement to make it easier to see in rolling waves. With my 37" arm if I must wave it my chance of being seen is ++. I'd buy again without hesitation. Yes, it is a bit bulky, but I've got 2 dry suit pockets and my rollup snorkel fits in easily along with a spool of line in one pocket. I have pockets on my wetsuit so this works in tropical situations as well. Fits in a BC pocket, but with spool will fill one pocket. Hope this helps.
JOHN B  I keep it rolled up all the time. Seems to work.
SUZETTE R  How is this Surface Marker Buoy inflated??????
LAUREN S  It is great !! good size and aesy to see at the surface ... I am a DM and love to used specialy on rough seas !
JUSTIN F  It is inflated with your regulator and It has oral inflation capability.
MARIEKE D  by mouth or by BCD, looks good but have not used it in the water-yet. Eli
STEVE E  The reviews explain it quite well. Oral, Octo, Low pressure BCD hose.
RICHARD M  It's easily inflated with your octopus. It works well, but I'm not sure if I needed something as larger as it is.
ROGER M  Was a gift for a friend, but mine is the same and has a BC power inflation valve and an oral inflator.
ROB P  Dan, This SMB may be inflated using either your BC inflater hose, or manually via the same location. You must push in on the valve (about 1/4-3/8 inch) while exhaling into it to inflate manually. Rob
DAWN G  The buoy has a valve that you can blow it up manually or you can attach your air hose ( BCD) to it to fill. I bought this as a gift and havent used it yet but very excited too. It was alot nicer than I thought it would be. Hope this helps!
Shopper  Can this be inflated with the second stage or octopus or only orally inflatable?
JOSE LUIS F  Either way.
JOSE LUIS F  It can be inflated either way.
MICHAEL S  I bought this particular SMB and mine can be opened at the bottom to inflate from the second stage and it has the nipple to use the inflator hose from the BC.
RICHARD M  Definitely. I practiced with it in the Keys last month. I was easy to inflate with the octopus. It is however, as has been pointed out by others, fairly large.
Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
GUNNAR B  Upgrade
BRIAN L  Future Cozumel trim
Kathie E  I read an article where the person used this after being left by dive boat. Having a similar experience this last month and a small SMB I wanted something larger and easier to see in choppy waters.
Glenn F  Great prices.
JAIME V  This SMB is a great item. It has a very good size, two different colours which makes it stand out in the middle of the ocean and the pressure release valve is great to quickly deflate the SMB when climbing onto the boat.
