Richard D  Yes...this is made very durable and will support larger individuals! Great product!
Elizabeth P  I just replied that the strap was too short for a 170 lb male, but that XL was very possibly not available at that time, so just ignore my previous answer. I agree that it is not really a safety vest.
Elizabeth P  I bought two of these as a fun wedding gift for friends a few years ago. The gentleman is 6'1" and only weights about 170. He found the strap on this one to be too short and was unable to use it.
RICHARD M  It’s not really safety gear. The idea I think is to provide a little bit of surface buoyancy. It can also release gas to allow surface dives. If you want to be securely held at the surface and don’t intend to dive, perhaps a boat safety vest would work they are made to keep you securely in a heads up position but you might find one that would allow you to cruise on the surface and keep your face in the water.
Jeanne W  How do you deflate this?
William M  To inflate remove inflation valve cap and inflate manually. To deflate vest remove inflation valve cap turn cap upside down insert into valve and squeeze vest.
RICHARD M  It has a spring loaded valve. You push it down with your teeth to inflate, release to seal. To dive, hold the valve and sink feet first soearfisherman style to expel all the gas. I got this for my wife to use as a May West. She doesn’t submerge. It can be locked shut by turning a lock knob. Note that It’s light gear, not heavy duty like a BCD. There is no primary gas release valve other than the inflate tube. Finally, unlike. BCD, it cannot be rinsed with fresh water. I store my it slightly inflated.

KEVIN F  No, this will be too large for your 5-year-old. Additional helpful info: A snorkel vest is a swim aid and is not designed to be a certified Personal Flotation Device (PFD).
