needed this to replace one destroied by airlines

Great light bag

By LING W.

 -  NYC, NY, US

I got this bag due to stricter weight restrictions, replacing my heavy duty Armor bag, which weighed much more (and didn't have a pull handle). That bag is pretty beat up and had its fin pockets ripped open multiple times by the airline. So I was a little wary of this bag with lightweight fabric. It was able to hold 2 sets of gears, 3 wetsuit and still be under the weight limit. It also held its shape, stayed upright, was stable when rolled and no sign of flexing or weakness in any of the...

Moby 5

The Moby 5 is a large roller backpack that is made from 300/400-denier nylon. The grades of denier were chosen to keep weight down but keep durability up. The large main compartment has a dual zipper slider U-shaped opening which allowing easy access to all the large gear and accessories stored inside. On the outside of the bag there are two large bellows pockets with dual slider zipper closures, the upper for small items and the lower for a regulator bag. Two side pockets for fins and a small luggage tag window for travel complete the storage area of this great bag. All zippers are strong and durable YKK-design.

When you travel, bag allows you to maneuver through busy airport, train or bus terminals with its reinforced telescopic handle and wheels. One of the problems with wheeled bags is once a wheel breaks, the bag becomes useless. Not with the Moby 5, wheels are removable, so they can be replaced if damaged.

Once you have arrived at your dive destination and rolling the bag on the beach or tight dock space is not an option you can open the hide-away shoulder strap pocket and your bag can now be carried on your back. Adjustable shoulder straps are padded and for added comfort. There are two carrying handles: Reinforced rubber gripped top and ridged bottom. The back of the bag houses supporting rods to keep the Moby 5 in a vertical position.

The bag has a total volume of 7,018 cubic inches (115 liters) with the main compartment measuring 30" x 15.75" x 11.25" (76cm x 40cm x 28cm), side pockets 28.75" x 9.85" x 2.75" (73cm x 25cm x 7cm), top front pocket 13.4" x 9.1" x 3.3" (34cm x 23cm x 8.5cm), the lower front pocket 13.4" x 15" x 3.3" (34cm x 38cm x 8.5cm) and the bag weighs 10.7 lbs. (4.86 kg) when empty. The Bag is available in multiple colors.

Q&A

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

THERESA M  Is this water resistant or water proof?
Andrew C  I believe it it has some water resistance, but is not waterproof. Had ours for 4 years, several trips to Bonaire, shows very little wear.
Shopper  Is this water proof or water resistant?
Theo K  This is a travel bag that is not waterproof. It will keep personal belongings dry while in a normal rain shower for a short while. But it is not made for this purpose. The Tuna or the Gorilla bags are a better option in real wet travel conditions
Margarita S  Can it hold scuba gear for 2 people?
Mario C  gear sizes vary,,, for most recreational divers this would be plenty of room for two...
ERIC A  I’ve had mine for a few years now and used it on a number of dive trips. Easily holds 2 fins in the outside zippered compartments and plenty of room for 2 sets of gear. I’ve struggled with the 50lb airline weight limit too. My solution is to take smaller, but heavier items(regs, etc.) in a carry-on bag separately.
MCCELLUS M  I agree with the previous answer. It is very roomy and holds a lot. 2 BCs could go in with no more than maybe 2- 3mm wetsuits and small accessories. But, for flying that 50# limit may be a factor. Very sturdy comfortable bag though.
MICK M  Yes it’s a large bag
ROBERT S  I believe it would if the gear is lightweight travel gear, but this may still be over the weight limit for airline travel if that is your thought. I would NOT do that for airline travel personally.
JAMES G  Is this bag compliant with Airline baggage standards?  It looks really big, specially with the side and front pockets...
Gustavo C  The bag is big, but I have been traveliing with it for 4 years, in several airlines, and never have a problem!!!
ROBERT S  Yes for a checked bag. I've taken to Bonaire and Italy.
WILLIAM B  I’ve never run into any problems with it as checked baggage of course, as long as it meets the weight requirements. It’s really easy to over pack it. Make sure you have a scale to check before you head out.
NICK D  Yes, I have flown with mine all over the globe. Never any questions. A great bag.
LING W  The bag does not look big, since it is tall and slender looking, but its bulging front pockets, if stuffed, might technically cause it to go past the 62 linear inches (30x21.3x14.5 = 65). If they give you a hard time on size, just empty those pockets out and the bag will be 3 inches thinner and technically be under 62 linear inches.
Howard T  It’s a little smaller then the larger ones that are allowed, it’s the I prefer, just the right size
Stephanie W  Yes. We have taken it to Egypt, Cayman’s, and Honduras... no size issues. We have to be careful not to go over the 50 lb weight limit.
JAMES G  Thanks!
JAMES B  I have used this bag several times on different airlines. Just be careful you don’t overload the bag which is very easy to do. Weight it before leaving the house.
JAMES G  Thanks for the response!
Shopper  How much padding is on the outside to help protect gear?
Andrew C  I don't, but believe there is any extra padding but with the fins in the side pockets and clothes in the two front pockets, your gear is fairly well protected. Have made three trips with the bags, has held up well, better than the previous bags I have held. No visible wear and tear and it holds a lot of gear without being too bulky.
Mario C  Manufacturer does not specify amount of padding, but from experience i can tell you is a pretty standard div travel bag with good amount of padding.
