Have had one really bad day in 15 years of diving. I have this always in my BCD and have used it once. But it was a day when the waves escalated from 4 to 10 feet cutting off the rocky shore exit. The fog had rolled in and got worse while waiting on the coast guard. My whistle was pathetic hung too long on my BCD and I never checked it. But they spotted the tube fully inflated. A bad judgment day on my part to be in the water. This safety sausage probably saved my life saving me from a Darwin... award.
USED THIS RECENTLY.... EASY TO INLATE EVEN BY MOUTH. 4 TO 5 BREATHS. ALSO USED FOR SNORKLING UNDER ARMS... REALLY HELPED W BOUYANCY.
Blue Reef Diver Below 6' (1.83m) Signal Tube: The Blue Reef Diver-Below Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) is a great safety device that all serious divers carry on every dive. The SMB is the smart way for a diver to mark their location when making safety stops, completing mandatory decompression stops and signaling the boat if they surface a distance away from the boat. This 6' (1.83m) long signal tube can be stowed easily in a regular pocket or clipped out of the way on your BCD. When the SMB is inflated it is long enough to be easily seen from a distance and sturdy enough to stand up to any weather conditions you may encounter. It is also conveniently labeled with "Diver Below" so you can send it up to mark your location.
Surface Marker Buoy features an easy to use oral inflation valve with lock to prevent accidental deflation as well as a larger over pressure/dump valve. The SMB is also equipped with a D-ring at the top for attachment of a light, strobe or chemical light for use at night. Blue Reef's SMB's are available in multiple colors. Don't risk not being seen in an emergency, pick up a Diver-Below SMB today.

What is the lift capacity of this surface marker buoy? I don't intend on using it as a lift bag but my Cavern Diver course requires me to have a lift buoy/surface marker of at least 50lb lift capacity.
HAROLD D
As has already been stated, this item is not used or intended for lift at all, and it has nothing near a 50 pound lift capacity. It is a safety signaling/marker device used only to attract attention after surfacing and on top of the water surface for divers who may be ascending toward it. I would suggest you ask your instructor for his/her recommendation for the item you are looking for.
BIJAN G
I don't know the lift capacity but I can definitely tell you that this buoy is in no way intended for that purpose. The buoys/surface markers that they are referring to will be larger and have more surface area. This is so narrow that it will likely be pulled straight down.

The Blue Reef surface marker I bought did not come with a whistle. It is a pretty nice marker, though.
