Cay Sal Bank, Bahamas…
Situated just 30 miles (49 km) north of Cuba, Cay Sal
Bank is the most remote area of the Bahamas. With one
of the highest concentrations of blue holes in the world
and spectacular vertical walls, Cay Sal Bank offers
fantastic snorkeling and exotic diving. While each Cay
Sal Bank cruise may vary due to weather and conditions,
the outline below will give you a good feel for the exciting
week in store for you!
Lusca - Legend of the Blue Holes…
Diving the blue holes of Cay Sal Bank is a unique
experience. Nekton guests have described their blue
hole dives in many ways ranging from beautiful and
fascinating to eerie and haunting.
The eerie feeling you get while diving the blue holes
might be from the presence of Lusca, the mythical beast
of Bahamian legend. Lusca is half-shark, half-octopus.
She lurks deep among the waters of the blue holes and
inland caverns that are found throughout the Bahamas’
island chain.
Presenting the Nekton Pilot…
-- A revolutionary Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull
Liveaboard that offers guests the ultimate smooth ride
and luxury accommodations.--The Nekton Pilot offers
our popular Bahamas itineraries departing from Fort
Lauderdale during the late spring, summer, and early fall
months.
--The Nekton Pilot was designed from the ground up
specifically as a SCUBA diving Liveaboard for Nekton by SWACAT Technologies. It was delivered into service for
Nekton in the spring of 1994 and was built at a shipyard
in Palatka Florida. The Nekton Pilot's design includes
two struts on each side connecting the superstructure to
the submerged pontoons that provide buoyancy. This
design provides the ultimate in stability by minimizing the
waterplane area. As a diver, you know that even on a
rough day, the water is calmer just a few feet below the
choppy surface - that's precisely where the pontoons
which provide the buoyancy for a are located - hence the
submerged pontoons act as stabilizers giving you the
feeling you're on a vessel more than eight times its size!
