Average Customer Review: based on 100 reviews. Rating: Better than the old pair Reviewer: David Reubush, Thursday, December 29, 2011 - View all my reviews My wife has been carrying a pair of shears with her on every dive for many years and has used them on a couple of occasions. Unfortunately, the old pair were not stainless, so the rust finally got the best of them. I got these for her for Christmas and I anticipate that they will last for the rest of our diving careers. Rating: Stainless Steel Underwater Safety Shears Black Reviewer: Diane K., Tuesday, October 11, 2011 - View all my reviews Super product for the price! The only bad thing I have to say about these shears is that even after rinsing and drying after every water contact they are showing signs of a little rust, even though they are to be stainess steel. Other than that, the case that they come in is secured with heavy duty velcro and it has a swivel clip to attach anywhere. I have found that they cut through everything so far, from rope to lobster tails. Did this Review help? Yes No 29 out of 56 people found this review helpful. Rating: Excellent tool for divers uncomfortable carrying a knife Reviewer: Gary V., Wednesday, August 10, 2011 - View all my reviews I purchased this for my wife to use while SCUBA diving, since she is uncomfortable with a knife. She doesnt have to worry about stabbing a hole in her BCD. Everyone knows how to use sissors properly for cutting fishing lines or nets and it is great for cutting zip ties. Everyone should have one of these in their dive kit. Did this Review help? Yes No 52 out of 106 people found this review helpful. Rating: Does the job well Reviewer: Lee K., Sunday, August 01, 2010 - View all my reviews Ive only used these shears on one dive, used to cut cable ties holding scientific instrumentation to a mooring weight. Definitely made short work of cutting the zip ties. The area we were diving also has a lot of fishing, mostly trolling with hi-tech braid lines. The security of having shears that can handle braid makes me more confident than diving with a knife. Did this Review help? Yes No 118 out of 228 people found this review helpful. Rating: Good pair for Shears Reviewer: Kevin James, Sunday, January 17, 2010 - View all my reviews These shears seem to good quality and the holster the come in is pretty nice too. The seem to cut every thing you need them too. And easy to use under water then a knife to cut tangled lines. I always carry a knife and a pair of diving shears and for the money you can not say no. Rating: Great Product Reviewer: Jody Bullock, Monday, November 16, 2009 - View all my reviews Great product, especially the holster for the shears, easily attaches to my BCD. Would highly recommend this product. While the shears do not replace a dive knife, they do make cutting out of a entanglement faster and easier. Did this Review help? Rating: Rusted after 4 days of diving in Bonaire Reviewer: Daniel Ari Mendelson, Saturday, September 12, 2009 - View all my reviews I am good about washing my equipment down after each dive. My daughter was using this one and I was using one from DiveRite. The DiveRite has over 40 salt water dives on it with just a hint of rust by the center screw. This one began to rust everywhere including the cutting edge by the 3rd day in Bonaire with only about 9 dives on it. I would stick with the DiveRite which was only slightly more expensive. Both are marked Stainless Steel, but the DiveRite seems to have some type of treatment on it. Did this Review help? Yes No 210 out of 392 people found this review helpful. Rating: You get what you pay for Reviewer: Mark D., Monday, July 06, 2009 - View all my reviews Used these shears on week long dive trip. Rusted up right away. Now after a week of diving they will still work, and I have taken action to try and prolong their usefullness, but I dont know how long they will function. Dont get me wrong, for what I payed I feel like I got an OK deal, you just need to know what you are going to get. Did this Review help? Yes No 201 out of 425 people found this review helpful. Why even carry or be trained with one, when you have packing this SAFE easy to use Shears. Reviewer: Eric P., Thursday, April 10, 2008 Scuba.coms Stainless Saftey Shears have met and exceeded my needs I am glad I purchased three. I have used them in my tool box, for cutting rope, jute, and very small guage cable. In dives they have cut, and freed dangerous underwater lines for removal that endanger wildlife as well as other divers. Of course they are outstanding on Kelp. The other great feature is they follow the same design as EMT shears so cutting clothing, safety belts, etc to get at a would is done with little risk to the injured. Did this Review help? Rating: Safety Shears a Winner Reviewer: Paul S., Monday, August 20, 2007 - View all my reviews Experienced divers know you should have two cutting devices with you if possible. The first, if you get tangled in line or another obstruction (NOT to fight off sharks or the evil guys from Thunderball), and the second, in case you cant reach the first due to entanglement or some other problem that limits your motion. Many people pick a knife for their first cutting device, but pick shears for their second. Why not pick another knife for a back up, second cutting device? Simple! Shears can be operated with one hand! If you have ever tried to cut line underwater, you will quickly realize that it often will "give" too much to enable cutting it with a slashing or sawing motion, unless you use a second hand to steady it. The other advantage with shears is that they seem to be able to cut right through some very thick stuff without a problem. Ive never tried to do so, but I bet they could cut some fairly thick wire. I dont think my knife would do so as quickly (or maybe even at all), realistically. These particular shears are a great value. They are stainless steel, have a lot of leverage, and their finger holes are large enough to accomodate thick gloves. The sheath is simple and can be mounted in a variety of ways, since it contains both a clip and a hole for a caribiner or belt-mount. You could easily use this as your primary cutting device, and get by with a folding or shorter knife as your secondary. And you cant beat the price. The only thing Id add is that you need to be sure to rinse these well after use, and let your sheath dry out before you put them back in. They will rust a little if you dont treat them like any other good tool. I found that the rust will wipe off for the most part. I like them so much I have two, to make swapping them between my BCs and a PFD I have a little easier. Did this Review help? Yes No 438 out of 847 people found this review helpful. Rating: Scissors make the cut Reviewer: John K., Thursday, August 02, 2007 - View all my reviews I was skeptical at first but these scissors really are better than carrying a knife. They are easier and safer to use and are much less bulky. I modified the straps off my dive knife sheaf to strap the scissors to my BC so they didnt hang down when I was horizontal in the water and I couldnt have found a better way to streamline my rig. The scissors are sharp and cut line easily. Did this Review help? Yes No 325 out of 676 people found this review helpful. Rating: Great Scuba scissors Reviewer: Chuck Murgia, Monday, July 02, 2007 - View all my reviews The Scuba shears are really nice and I stow them in my scuba travel bag which goes on every dive. Comes in handy not only in diving, but pre-dive things... like opening the plastic casing for a set of duracell batteries. Never realized how handy having a set of scissors with me on the boat would come. Did this Review help? Yes No 354 out of 685 people found this review helpful. Rating: Stainless Steel Underwater Safety Shears Reviewer: Bryan Cox, Monday, June 18, 2007 - View all my reviews After watching a real search and rescue dive team in ventura County. I noticed that all divers used shears. After asking why instead of a knife, they all said that it was more safe and effective for cutting lines and kelp. They all had one on their shoulder and belt. Works for me. Did this Review help? Yes No 315 out of 647 people found this review helpful. THE SHEARS WERE RUSTY AFTER THE FIRST DIVE AND GOT WORSE WITH EACH DIVE. AFTER 45 DIVES IN SALT WATER THEY ARE UNBELIEVEABLY RUSTY EVEN AFTER FRESH WATER RINSING AFTER EACH DAY. I AM NOT A FOOL AND REALIZE THAT AT ITS SELLING PRICE I CAN NOT EXPECT MORE. THE POUCH ALONE IS WELL WORTH THE COST. 5 STARS FOR THE POUCH. 0 STARS FOR THE SHEARS Did this Review help? Rating: Scuba Stainless steel underwater shears Reviewer: Michael H., Saturday, January 13, 2007 - View all my reviews I was skeptical about these shears. I read the other reviews about cutting a penny in 1/2 and did not really believe them. So I tried it the moment I received the shears. It really worked,no problem at all. I was very impressed. The harness hangs nicely on the BC to keep the shears out of the way during the dive. Where I dive I dont typically wear a knife- so it is nice to have an alternative with me just in case. Rating: A Practical Knife Alternative Reviewer: Wayne Tutzauer, Tuesday, September 26, 2006 After having my dive knife confiscated on my last cruise (on-board security issue) I had been divng without any type of cutting device. This can be deadly - as I watched my dive master in Mexico struggle to cut himself out of an illegal fishing net.. I was kicking myself for not being better prepared. It could have been all of us in that net. The safety shears provide a great alternative.. they pass through airline and cruise ship security, are extremely lightweight, and fit into a pocket on my BC. I hope I never need to use them, but its nice to know I have them. This is a minor investment for the added safety and convenience they provide. The shears are not glitzy.. just a basic cutting tool! Rating: STAINLESS STEEL UNDERWATER SAFETY SHEARS Reviewer: Alex Van der Flier, Thursday, December 14, 2006 Best tool wen you are entangled in a fishing net or line. It cut even thin steel wires. In a situation like this your knife is useless. Did this Review help? Yes No 264 out of 540 people found this review helpful. No issues so far with rust or loosening up at the pivot. Did this Review help? Yes No 262 out of 533 people found this review helpful.
