Rating: Donning.....great! Doffing.........a bit of work!
Reviewer: Bill H., Friday, March 16, 2007 - View all my reviews
The front zipper does allow easier entry than the back zip versions, especially for those of us who are a little plump for our size! I should mention that the XL was as perfect a fit as I could expect for an off the rack item. A bit tight for my plumpness, but it should be perfect in the water. However, trying to get my left arm out of it upon unzipping is a real challenge. It should be easier (I hope) when the suit and I are both wet after a dive. Im 65 and contortions are not my speciality. At 510" and 205 lbs,the XL is a great fit. This will be my 43rd diving season and I look forward to using this suit. 5mm will be a great match for the diving Im planning in the St Lawrence River during the main season when I dont use my drysuit, and the attached hood will be a bonus (it fits great too! - tight enough to help with regulator jaw fatigue). - Bill H

Rating: Mares, a good choice
Reviewer: Donald T., Friday, June 22, 2007
First of all, I am a rescue diver for nationally sanctioned drag boat racing. I am talking about 263 mph in 1/4 mile type racing. Some of the venues are water temps in the low 60s, and the mobility and attached hood are features that are a must. Sometimes these drag boats dont make the full 1320 and being able to move quickly while rescuing the driver is priority one. I have had to spend time on the bottom of some of these venues where the temp can be in the upper 50s, but I never got chilled. The front zip is and obvious choice because I spend ALL DAY in the wetsuit. I certainly would, and have, recomended this wetsuit to others. I realize mine isnt the traditional dive profile, but the Mares was a good choice for me.

Rating: Glad I bought it!
Reviewer: Shawn Talbot, Saturday, March 24, 2007
I tried it on as soon as it came in. I probably should have waited until someone else was at home because it was very difficult to get out of without help. Im pretty sure that it wouldnt have been as difficult if I had been in the water, and with someone elses help to get it off one shoulder it would have been easy. I got this size in order for it to fit my chest, waist, and shoulders and it fits surprisingly well, despite the fact that Im actually pretty short for the wetsuit. I cant say for sure how it will be in the water yet, (the lakes here are still frozen), but comparing it to very similar wetsuits that I have used before I am very happy with it so far!!!!

Rating: Mares 5mm Jumpsuit
Reviewer: David D., Monday, April 30, 2007
Very good value and quality for the money. This suit is very warm for a 5mm. If Mares would put in skin in wrist seals, this suit would be even better for cold water as the wrist does exchange a little water. Nobody is allowed to pee in their wet suit on my boat as its nasty and not necessary. The advantage of a front zip is that its easier to put on alone and easier to relieve oneself (on the boat). Im 59" and 195lbs and the XL fits fine. Actually this suit is too warm due to the built in hood. and Ill put it away until next fall and go with a cooler one. Good suit!

Rating: Nice Suit
Reviewer: Glenn Perrine, Monday, February 19, 2007
It is very easy to get into by yourself with the front zipper. Warm and comfortable and you dont have to worry about leaving your hood behind. If your like me and feel like your in between sizes go with the larger size with this suit. The zipper goes from the groin to the side of your neck and does not stretch much. So if the suit is somewhat on the small size it puts a lot of pressure on your head and neck. I ordered a small and then returned it for a medium, very comfortable now.

Rating: Size Up from the Chart
Reviewer: Quentin Hanrahan, Wednesday, August 15, 2007
Definitely order two sizes over what the chart indicates. I am 58", 42" chest, 35" waist, and ordered a large, had to return it for an XL. It fits nice. My only issue is the zipper does not stay in the full up position. It would be nice to have a velcro closure to keep it up there. Nice suit for the price. Scuba.com shipped it to me in about a week and were prompt to credit my card on the return.

Rating: size chart off
Reviewer: Lorraine R., Saturday, February 03, 2007
I received the mares wetsuit. It appeared to be of good quality. When I ordered it I went by the "Size Chart" but when I got it it was too big. I usually take a size 10 - 12 but according to thier chart I would need a 13/14. Knowing how hard it is to get into wetsuits,I ordered the larger size. I had to return it which cost me $15.00. I am waiting for the smaller size.

Rating: Warm down under
Reviewer: Brian Olson Instructor, Thursday, September 07, 2006
This suit is perfect for extended vacations and for people that get cold quickly. The front zip makes for easy access and the built in hood and plush lining makes this suit very comfortable and warm. The kneepads on this suit are tough and durable, yet flexible and comfortable to move in. This suit is the ticket for those who want versatility and comfort.

Rating: 5MM ORIGIN JUMPSUIT WITH ATTACHED HOOD Mens Black
Reviewer: Gary K., Thursday, January 04, 2007 - View all my reviews
This is a very good buy. Its comfortable, effective and good looking. I spent over two hours working in 50 degree water and didnt even get a chill. Only draw back is the lack of a tab or lanyard to help pull it off your shoulder. Its very hard to get out of alone, unless you happen to be a contortionist. Otherwise, a fine suit for the money.

Rating: Mares 5 mm Origin jumpsuit with attached hood
Reviewer: Lisa H., Sunday, October 28, 2007
Suit fits good, sizing was good, Im 58" so the suit is a tad short for me on the legs, but not enough to compromise the comfort of the suit, chin of the hood does sit a little high on the mouth, but it doesnt interfere with my reg. Front access zipper is an absolute must, no more twisting of the shoulders to try zip up my suit, I love it

Rating: Bought a custom fit off the rack
Reviewer: Morris R Hafford, Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - View all my reviews
The suit fit like a glove and the diagonal zip in front made getting it on and off a breeze, even for this old man with arthritis. I followed the recommendation from another reviewer and bought up one size and very glad that I did - the suit fits perfectly. This suit is ideal for storage and use on my cruising sailboat.

Rating: Mares 5MM wet suit
Reviewer: Sandra W., Monday, April 30, 2007
I have alway gotten cold easily in the water, but on a dive trip after I got this suit, I was the most comfortable person in the water. Thats really saying something, cause it was the chilliest water Ive been in in quite a long time- as low as 67 degrees (and I get cold if its below 81F.) I really like this wetsuit.

Rating: Mares 5mm Origin Wetsuit
Reviewer: Andrew Lee, Sunday, January 14, 2007
This is a great fitting suit with excellent stretchability and when the atteched hood is fully zipped it allows for very little water exchange. This 5mm gives as much thermal protection as some 7mm suits. The only drawback is the way the zipper continues onto the hood, it can be difficult to fully zip closed.

Reviewer: Spencer Holland, Monday, May 14, 2007
The Mares 5mm jumpsuit/wetsuit with attached hood I bought from scuba.com has worked out for me very well. Ive used it about five times in a few weeks and its worked out great. It kept me warm in the ocean at catalina island and in the lakes of southern utah. Thanks again for such a great wetsuit.

Rating: Great suit
Reviewer: Ryan Battles, Monday, May 14, 2007
I purchased this suit for diving NC waters. The suit is very snug, so keep that in mind when purchasing. The fit is good, the only complaint is that the neck was a little too short so the hood tends to pull back on my head. The suit kept me nice an toasty in 63 degree water over multiple dives.

Rating: hooded wet suit is great
Reviewer: Ward B., Thursday, April 10, 2008
After ordering this item, I was concerned about the attached hood. However, after 17 dives I found it to be better than I imagined. While others complained of being chilled, I remained comfortable and felt safe. Thank you for this excellent item. wb

A good product for 60 degree h2o,but it requires some assistance to get out of even when full of water(maybe install a pull tab to hook on some object,on the wrist, reinforced of course) other than that a great product when diving with a friend!

The suit is of fine quality but the sizes are misleading...I ordered a 2XL but it fits more like a L or XL...you need to order 2 sizes up in order to be comfortable...and for information purposes my body contours are normal....John L.

It is not often that I like to dive with a hood, but if you need one this suit might be for you. It fits very well and is very well made. If you are going to dive with a hood I dont think you will be dissapointed with this suit.

Rating: Easy front zipper
Reviewer: Mac Ishida, Tuesday, December 05, 2006
I like its front zipper very much, which makes me wear it quickly and tightned so faster than back zippered ones. I think the retaining warmth is enough even for cold water. Yes, I am enjoying it. Mac

nice and warm, and light and inexpensive (if on sale :) )jumpsuit.. hood works well. the only trick is to get the zipper exactly in the chest middle, or its restricting some types of motion

The wetsuit, a large, fits a little snug. ( Im 511" and 185) Not very easy to get out of by yourself. But, it is very nice and warm. As warm as my blue reef 7mm 2 piece. Buy it!
