Rating: Spare Air - the ultimate in self rescue
Reviewer: Carl McIntire, Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Im a diver in Senegal, West Africa. I often dive with local fishermen who are untrained and do not know how to be a "good buddy." My wife bought the Submersible Systems Spare Air bottle for me as a Valentines gift, knowing that it would give me an extra margin of safety on my dives. The unit is easy to fill and easy to use. I removed the regulator/cap before taking it onto the plane in my checked luggage. I also included a note in the bag with it explaining what it was. I had no problems at any of the international airports. Ive made about a dozen dives with the Spare Air in the last two months. I have not needed it yet, but just knowing its there gives me wonderful peace of mind.

Rating: Better than I imagined
Reviewer: Jeremiah Hansen, Tuesday, September 25, 2007
I ordered and tried this product on a recent dive and was just thrilled with it. I had tried to get it from three local dive shops and they were out. Scuba.com came to the rescue with a price even lower than the perfered divers rates I enjoy at a local shop and the unit was delivered within 16 hrs of being ordered.. Trial was by choice and not in an emergency situation of course. I had no problem attaching the spare air to my BC and with the way the case is designed it was very easy to stream line it. I also love the increased sense of security it gave to me and my wife. Therefore both of us would highly recomend this product and Scuba.com to any divers JH AOW,EMTP-PSD,DRS

Rating: Spare Air Purchase
Reviewer: Larry Nelson, Saturday, August 02, 2008
i couldnt be happier with my spare air purchase. in addition to its intended purpose as a redundant air source while diving, i have used it do short work under my boat, such as change a zinc or clean the prop. my neighbor used it to retrieve the keys he ped in the water at his slip. sometimes only a little air is needed and using the spare air saves getting on all the scuba apparatus. one other use is as an air source should i need it to fight a fire aboard my boat. i hope this never happens. this is a wonderful product. i should add that delivery was quick and complete.

Rating: Peace of mind.
Reviewer: Brian Olson Instructor, Thursday, August 24, 2006
This is possibly the best idea any diver ever had. How can it possibly be a bad idea to bring a bit more air underwater. This little unit weighs close to nothing and mounts just about anywhere. This means that it is accessable and usable in seconds. In the unlikely event that a diver needed a redundant air supply, this is the way to go. It breaks down for travel, re-assembles in minutes and can be refilled over and over right from your main tank. The best news is that Ive never had to use it for real, but I know that its always there in case.

this is an exceptional item. i do about 90 percent of my dives solo. i know this goes against many of the guidlineds of scuba, but in my situation, this is what works for me. rememberself rescue. i have not needed the spair air yet, and hope i never do. my wife feels better about me going out and so do some of the instructors i am friends with. this is just such a great item, not just for you, but for any other divers that need help. probably the best insurance one can take underwater with them besides common sense, and proper maintenance.

Rating: Spare Air Essentials
Reviewer: Bob Ellingham, Thursday, April 10, 2008 - View all my reviews
Just bought the spare air kit and took it on a dive trip the the VIs and Bonaire. What a great security feeling. I have all the confidence with my gear and the spare air gives me that extra level of assurance. Easy to transport, easier to fill, quality construction and best of all a level of safety. With new weight regulation about to take effect with the airlines and scuba gear being considered as bagage divers will be forced to rely some what on dive shop rental gear. The "Spare Air" will provide that extra level of safety.

Very high quality product. Delivered very promptly by FedEx. I had no problem with taking it on an international flight, but I did attach the TSA regs to the tank with an elastic. In my experience diving with lots of different people on off shore boats, you cant count on a buddy (a new one on every dive sometimes) to always be close enough to assist, or even to have their act together, so I consider it to be my new buddy who I know is always there.

i have just recently purchased the spare air pack. i have been staking this over the internet ever since i came across it in a magazine several months ago. the price of the spare air on scuba.com was the cheapest i have come across, so naturally i had to acquire it. i cannot wait to test it out in the open water i have been testing out in my pool. this product will provide me with a small piece of mind while i dive.

Rating: Spare Air Cylinder
Reviewer: Terry B., Monday, November 12, 2007 - View all my reviews
Excellent product. Travelled cross country with it on commercial airlines thru 3 different airports and no problem going thru TSA. Make sure the cylinder is open and put it in a clear plastic bag so security can see it. Id recommend the Spare Air Travel Pack for this. Very easy to fill at the dive site. Attached to my BC strap without difficulty. I wouldnt dive in rental gear again without having this along.

Love the product. I just wanted to inform you all that you shipped it to me under pressure! A big NO NO as far as Dangerous Goods Shipments go. The product states it must be disassembled for air shipment, but this is also true for UPS unless it is shipped as a compressed gas NOS with an airbill appropriately labelled. Just wanted to let you know for future reference. Kind regards, Laura

This is a good product. Ive carried it with me on half a dozen dives and it is easy to carry and unobtrusive. Lots of discussion on the scuba boards on its worth in an emergency, but Ive practiced using it at the end of a dive and I can get a good 25 breaths or so out of it....enough to get to the surface in an emergency. I recommend it.

Rating: Great Product, Good Price
Reviewer: Frederick C., Tuesday, September 09, 2008
I have been using spare air units for nearly 20 years. I wont go in the water without it. The latest model is a good one. The fill adapter is now brass rather than aluminum so it should hold up better than the older ones. The new holster also gives more mounting options to keep it handy, yet out of the way.

Rating: Completely self contained, well made
Reviewer: Stanley G., Friday, April 20, 2007
I bought the Spare Air to carry on my sailboat, to use at times when a rope gets wrapped around my propellor, or when I need to set an anchor. Spare Air is everything I need, at a lot less cost than a tank, regulator, and back pack. It appears to be very well made, and worked well when I tested it.

Rating: Unusual Spare Air Use
Reviewer: Pierre Stephenson, Thursday, September 20, 2007
We just recently did some underwater photography in a pool with a bride and groom in their wedding dress and tux. The Spare Air was the perfect solution that allowed us to breath underwater while still remaining unencumbered enough to move freely and photograph our subjects.

this may seem like alot to spend but its great and pays its self in one use. I use this also at work when a quick fix is needed instead of busting out the whole scuba gear. Fills right off your normal tank and is ready to go it couldint be easier to use!

As I sit here, I am getting ready to dive the Oriskany for the sixth time. I use a spare air and have repurchased another one for my son. This gives me an extra piece of mind to enjoy my dive. This is a small amount to pay for your life. Fred Grant

Purchased this for my wife and she loves it. Obviously not intended to be a primary air source, but does provide an extra measure of comfort. Easy to use, easy to set up. A nice addition for those who are a bit apprehensive about "air sharing"

I get alot of kidding from my dive buddies about my spare air. However, I love the small size, ease of filling, and that I can remove the regulator for air transport. They can kid all they want, I feel safer with it.
