Rating: good start for beginner

This was a good camera for the average photographer it was a little hard to figure out how to switch from land use to underwater when in the case but finally figured it out. The thing that was really iritating was the moisture munchers enclosed were spent and pink (not blue as was supposed to be) luckily I had ordered an extra pkg of these as this also happened to a friend who bought the same camera. The company needs to figure out how to pkg the munchers so they are usable.

THIS WAS MY FIRST UNDERWATER CAMERA PURCHASE, AND OVERALL, I AM SATISFIED. THE CAMERA IS VERY EASY TO USE AND HAS FANTASTIC FEATURES LIKE AN OCEAN SETTING THAT HELPS TO CORRECT YOUR COLOR. TE HOUSING IS STURDY AND I VEVER HAD ANY LEAKING. I BOUGHT THE MOISTURE MUNCHERS AND WENT THROUGH ABOUT 1 EVERY OTHER DAY (THREE DIVES A DAY). I ALSO PURCHASED THE FLOAT STRAP WHICH WAS WONDERFUL. THE CAMERA FELT SECURE ON MY WRIST USING IT. THE EXTRA BATTERY I BOUGHT IS NICE, BUT I NEVER NEEDED IT. THE BATTERY LASTED FOR THE ENTIRE DAY AND WASNT EVEN FULLY DRAINED. THATS SAYING A LOT. I TOOK OVER 1200 PICTURES IN 6 DAYS. I WOULD RECOMMEND THE EXTRA SD CARD. I USED A 4GB AND ONLY FILLED UP ABOUT HALF THE MEMORY. THE ONLY CRITICISM I HAVE FOR THE CAMERA IS THAT YOU CANNOT SWITCH BETWEEN VIDEO OR STILL PICTURE MODE ONCE THE CAMERA IS INSDIDE THE HOUSING. OTHER THAN THAT, THIS CAMERA IS AWESOME. ALSO, I SEARCHED MANY SITES BEFORE PURCHASING FROM SCUBA.COM, AND THEY DEFINITELY HAD THE BEST DEAL AND GAVE YOU THE MOST EXTRAS.

Have not used the camera yet - we are going to Aruba Oct 10, 2009 and hope to dive and take some great pictures of some old ship wrecks. The camera looks great and we are reading up on the manual and instructions, thanks so much for a great deal for this underwater camera.

This camera is excellent. It worked perfectly, taking great pictures and impressively steady video underwater. It never leaked and it only took one "moisture muncher" for 2 days of diving and its still good for at least one more dive trip. Great buy!

Just a all around good camera. For true color the standard flash it great for close up shots but youre going to need the ext strobe for anything else over 5 ft(depending on depth). Note: remember to set the camera for underwater(sea) in order to take pictures.

Bought for recent trip to Kauai. Camera worked great, the housing is very rugged and is easy to use underwater. Takes great pictures above and below the surface.
Camera is user friendly, got great photos of turtles and even a whale. I definately recomend this camera. Only one small knock, but Im sure there is a remedy when in dive mode, surface pics will have red tone to account for blue water. I do recommend buying the flash accessory. Definately my next purchase.

The camera is very easy to use and takes good pictures. I would recommend adding a strobe to enhance picture quality of the camera. The only downfall I found is when using the camera for onshore pictures I received a shadow on the screen while taking pictures on the beach in warm weather. I am hoping this will clear up, so be careful when using the camera other than underwater photography.

I used this on my recent trip to Turks and Caicos. This is a simple to use camera, performed flawlessly and, with the setting set to dive mode, took fantastic pictures. If you dive in less visibility or darker waters, Id recommend adding the external flash.

I admit I havent tried a lot of other cameras other than the disposable ones, but this camera worked flawlessly. Only problem I noted was getting the color right underwater (operator era) and when shooting above ground in the sunlight, I got some washout in the background. Again, probably my fault. Others saw the camera also and liked it.

This is a terrific camera with excellent color and clarity. The unit is easy to use and takes great pictures above or below the water. The price was excellent and there are plenty of options for additional features, etc. I would recommend it as a great entry level camera.

I am very happy with the purchase. It is a good camera for the price. I did have some problems over 120 feet. I suspect the pressure of that depth was pushing all the buttons on the camera. It did return to normal upon ascending. A flash is very helpful over 80 feet, but I still got decent shots.

This was taken about 30 feet in Puget Sound neat Tacoma on my first dive using the camera. No external flashes or strobes.
So easy to use and seems to be built like a tank so it can take some punishment.

Rating: First underwater digital camera
Reviewer: Robert M., Saturday, February 28, 2009
This is my first underwater digital camera. My previous underwater experience is with a 35mm, and I have only used this camera snorking so far. The sea setting (blue and green) do compensate well for the colour change created by the water. My first outing was the best underwater pictures I had taken to that date. Downside is the display is difficult to see near the surface in bright sunlight, and the camera has no external view finder like my 35, however keep snaping and you get results.
The inside camera also bwcomes an excelent point and shoot when set properly. The camera reaction time 1/10 sec is fantastic with action shots (which underwater pictures are)as compared to my other point and shoot at 1/3 sec.

I have Just come back from the Caribian and used the camera for the first time, I took about 150 underwater pictures and 50 suface pictures. I found the camera vary easy to use and have some vary good pictures.I liked having to only take one camera for all my pictures, the camera out of the case was small and could be carried in your pocket when out touring the islands.

Rating: A few things they dont mention
Reviewer: jeffery r., Sunday, December 21, 2008
i like it. used it on 6 dives now. only three things notable. one thing they dont mention is that you need to purchase an extra set of "moisture munchers # sl 911". the camera only comes with 4 tubes and youll use one a day depending on your profiles and water temps. none of the local shops carried them so order them at the same time you order the camera.
second they should have included a diffuser. if you are within 30 ft of the surface on a sunny day this thing takes great pictures with full color using the blue sea setting. at night you can use the flash and a spot light near what you are taking a picure of and it looks great. without a good led or krypton light the colors washed out a bit on the sides using only the flash.. i would recommend a flash diffuser something they should have included with the camera.
third thing it is a little slow to take the pictures. so dont plan on any split second action shots especially if using the flash. but it works fine for fish just swimming around.
one review i read said you couldnt switch between modes while underwater. i read the directions and yes you can. its not intuitive but you can.
been down to 120 ft with no seepage.
youll need to play with the white balance to get the best colors. if you can take it down and mess with the settings after a few dives you should start to get really great picures but it does bleach out around 80ft. guess at that depth you need some serious lighting to get the colors to show up.

Rating: A solid intermediate level camera
Reviewer: Steven Cloutier, Tuesday, February 17, 2009
Ive used several underwater cameras, going back to 35mm days, and have generally found them quirky in some way. The Sealife DC800 is very user friendly and intuitive. I purchased it just a few days before a dive trip, and was basically able to jump in the water with it without having to study a lot of setup menus and directions. Of course, it offers a good variety of more advanced features as well, but I really appreciated how easy it was to get going with it. It performed well under some fairly difficult conditions, including a lot of particulate in the water, and it was simple to deactivate the flash to avoid back-scatter (I had an older strobe an hadnt yet figured out how to sync them, it looks like if you get the strobe that comes with the package its a no-brainer). The controls were easy to operate and scroll through even with a fair amount of surge. All in all Im quite pleased with this camera. Of course its not on par with systems costing thousands of dolars, but for those of us who live in the real world its a great camera value.

My husband and I took our new camera down to Honduras. He has large hands and often had problems accidently turning the camera off when he went to shoot a photo. I have small hands and could barely reach the off button so obviously, I didnt have that problem. Overall, we were very happy with the photos as well as the cameras durability. I would recommend this to a friend.

This is a very good camera & I am happy with its results. Still trying a lot of the different modes. I have noticed that some of my flash photos are quite washed out, as in too much flash. I tried different modes, ISO speeds & shooting modes, but still seems to be a very bright flash.
The underwater housing is awesome & took super pictures underwater as it should. That is tghe main reason I bought this camera as I already have 2 other digital cameras, but none for underwater.
There is only 1 thing that disappointed me about this camera. The little rubber boot that covers the power in & AV out ports, fell off after about 3 days & was lost.
I would think that it should be attached to the camera body as most other cameras are.
So far, that is my only real complaint as there is nothing to cover the opening now.

Great camera for land and under the sea. Bought the DC800 to replace my old Sealife SL560 film camera. I used it on the beach and on a tubing trip in Jamaica. Then we took it on dives in Grand Cayman and Cozumel. The DC800 is easy to use and the screen is bright and easy to see, even at 90 feet or on a bright beach. I used it with a with an external flash on one dive and without the external flash on the next. It took great pictures in both cases. The movie mode is great too - on land and under water. Its great that you can use all of the cameras features under water. Seems to be very dependable and the battery life was great too (over 300 flash pictures on one charge and still had battery life).

The DC800 is a great buy. It takes great pics underwater and above. The underwater case is great size and is easy to use. The large viewfinder makes it easy to frame your image. The only two cons ae that the zoom cannot be used during video and the camera is slow to take pictures even with afast memory card. Otherwise I love it.

Great underwater camera. It is very easy to use. It works on land too but the pictures arent as good as other cameras. One thing to remember: make sure the camera is on the "take pictures" mode before you put on the case and go into the water!! Youll be bummed if you forget and then cant take any.
Would definitely recommend this camera.

I purchased this product for my daughter who is doing coral reef ecology research as part of her college course load. She is currently using the camera in Little Cayman island and has reported that it is very easy to operate and serves as a great tool in her research. She also likes that it easy to remove the camera from the casing when she wants to take pictures on the island. I have seen several of the pics she captured and they are amazing!

We bought this camera for a trip to the Carribean for our teenager. We were pleased with the ease of use and the quality of pictures both under and over water. We just used it snorkeling this trip, so we did not use the flash but did dive down for pictures about 20 ft. The only thing we dislike is that there is not a viewfinder besides the LCD screen and sometimes in the bright sunlight it is a little hard to see. But overall we were very pleased with the camera and received it promptly and as advertised from Scuba.com.

I am so pleased with this camera. The compact size belies its 8mp. capabilities. Its flash lights up the murky waters of some of our lakes nicely producing an excellent representation of diving. The housing is easy to work with and does not take up a great deal of space. The price was great and I would recommend it to all. Eventually I will add the strobe to the camera.

Overall great camera on land and underwater. This is my first camera and never taken pictures underwater before so Im still learning. I took it on a diving trip in the Atlantic and the visibly was about 20-30 feet. With just the camera no flash, it took good pictures for the first 30-40 feet. And took some at 96 feet and I was surprise it took OK pictures. I wish I had bought the flash which I am planning on next.
Its worth the money and I am very happy with the camera.

I recently purchaced a Sealife DC800 Underwater camera
and used it for the first time on a wreck dive in Lake Michigan and I was impressed with the pics it took even without a strobe.
I was a little sceptical about using the various buttons with heavy dri-suit gloves on but this was not an issue.
I must say Iam pleased with the performance.
