Rating: Best snorkel ever

I just used the dry snorkel in the Atlantic Ocean while smoring and diving without tanks. It was fantastic! The snorkel stayed dry the entire time. No more gurgling and purging in the tube. I liked it so much may be ordering another for my spouse!

This snorkel lives up to its name. In rough surf and diving 10-15 down to reefs to admire the sights up close I never had and issue with water entry to the snorkel.
I will note that I did find however that if I "purged" on my acsent I did allow a small amount of water to enter but with minimal effort I quickly cleared through the bottom valve. Moral of the story...you dont "need" to purge on the way up to clear your snorkel (old habit)
I liked it so much that while on vacation in Maui, Hawaii I talked my wife into upgrading her older equipment!

I had one before from Scuba.com purchased at the dive show in Long Beach. It worked perfect but then some how it came loose from my mask and now I am purchasing another one to have the comfort of the first one. I also had a US Diver supposedly dry snorkle, but it was not what it was advertised to be.

I never enjoyed snorkeling because I always ended up swallowing water if I tried to dive under the water. With the ultra-dry snorkel by Oceanic, I no longer swallow water and can enjoy snorkeling and getting closer to things I want to photograph.

I have been diving since 1962 and have never had a snorkel that was worth a damn and generaly avoided them. The Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkel is a super dry streamline snorkel and a joy to use. In the Florida Keys hunting lobster the water is choppy so the OUDS keeps me from swallowing sea water. Good job by Oceanic on the design.

Im new to scuba diving and wanted to buy a good snorkel from the get go and this snorkel is just about the best they come. Takes a little getting use to the auto close when it goes in the water, but I guess thats better then a mouth full of water. Highly recommend. The customer service at scuba.com is also top notch when it came to helping me.

I bought this for my wife who always seemed to have trouble adjusting her snorkel and would be coughing due to water in her old snorkel (which has some dry features). This is the solution! Even when a wave went over her head, it stopped water entry. Well worth it if you ever shore dive.

this snorkel was a "trust" buy. i read the reviews and did some homework and it paid off. i took this on a beach trip and was amazed at the performance. even though the beach had red flags out during my swims, the snorkel did not allow a single of water to enter the tube. it was slightly difficult to attach to my face mask but held firm and was very comfortable against my head.the "stock" mouth piece was extremely comfortable and swung down away from my face without that usual whipping action. i believe this snorkel will last a very long time due to the fine material from which it was constructed. sorry scuba dealer. a great value for the cost. i am an occasional snorkeler and do not go on dive trips yet, but i am sure this will work well for recreational dives.

Rating: Best Snorkel Ever!!
Reviewer: DIRK D., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 - View all my reviews
So this little gem is probably my favorite piece of dive equipment I own. What is there to a snorkel right? a hole that goes to the surface for air? My old snorkel (or straw as i like to call it now) broke and I opted for a more expensive one with low expectations of it actually being a "Dry" snorkel but after about 20 to 30 dives I can honestly say its dryer than dry. I thought i would kind miss barley making it to the surface before forcing out all the water but I really dont! Absolutely zero water gets caught up in this snorkel and the only draw back i can think of is being about a foot under water and trying to take a breath and getting no air (cause its capped off) or sometimes I try and take a deep breath too fast and it does its job and clogs up and lastly you cant depict or imitate a whale that well when no water spurts out the top of your snorkel/blow hole. Def worth the money and will buy again if needed- also dont know about other "Dry" snorkels cause this is the first Ive ever owned but I can tell you Ive found one that so crucial I wont need to try any other.

Works great as advertised.... Just make sure that you are aware of the orientation of your snorkel. My son tried on mine and hES just learning to snorkel... he unintentionally immersed the snorkel and the ultra dry did what it was supposed which was to seal which caught him of guard because his air source suddenly was disrupted. Other than ensuring situational awareness, NO WORRIES!! Would greatly recommend!!!

Rating: good, but not 100% dry
Reviewer: Cortlen Hernandez, Wednesday, July 21, 2010 - View all my reviews
so, i bought this snorkel because i was tired of drinking seawater when it was choppy out on the ocean. it works great..most of the time. i do a lot of freediving and spearfishing with this snorkel and for the most part it keeps water out but it still lets in some water.
this becomes very annoying since it is now forcing me to inhale slowly to keep water from being inhaled from inside my snorkel. and for some reason, it is very difficult to just blow out those few s of water.
but im picky. it really is a great snorkel, just not 100% dry. and one other little thing, its a pretty big snorkel. i was kind of surprised by its bulky-ness when it first arrived in the mail. but i got over that pretty quick. happy diving

This snorkel definitely remained dry. I just returned from a dive trip and was happy to see this snorkel work perfectly in choppy water. It is also extremely easy to clear. One drawback is the attachment gizmo for attaching to the mask. It was impossible to operate, always stuck. I eventually threw that away and now use a detachable silicone ring.

People cautioned me from buying a dry snorkel, I didnt listen, and Im glad. I like this snorkel more than any other snorkel Ive used. While some water got in, it was never enough to inhibit breathing. I could count on it. I dove scuba with this snorkel attached, and I never felt that it was too buoyant. Once after rolling off the boat, it fell off my mask (my fault) and descended.
Nice snorkel!

the ultra dry is definitely the snorkel to get!!!
just spend 2 weeks snorkeling in cozumel doing our own shore snorkeling (no tours) with my new ultra dry snorkel which is my 3rd snorkel over a 30 year span of a lot of snorkeling all around the world.
1. its true they are ultra dry. you do not get those occassional gulps of water or backwashes in your mouth while snorkeling. and best of all, because of that, you dont get water in your lungs, which means you dont come home coughing or a candidate for phenumonia.
2. get the yellow top for visibilitys sake so that boats can see you better as well as your snokeling buddy.
i was very pleasantly surprized how effective the ultra dry snorkel really was. it exceeded my expectations.

And I never did, to take a line from alka seltzer "oh what a relief if is". In fact this snorkel is so effective if you do not have it angled for how you are snorkeling( ie looking down or forward at an angle) you wont get air either. It is adjustable for your view angle.

Ordered before a warm water vacation to replace another snorkel I have dived with for some time. Upon arrival, I took the snorkel out from beach for a snorkel adventure. For whatever reason, it took the snorkel three or four submersions until it was operating as a completely "dry" snorkel. BUT for the remainder of the week during all dive excursions the snorkel acted exactly as advertised.
To note...the hard plastic mask holder included with the snorkel is very uncomfortable. I removed and replaced with a neoprene holder to provide much more comfort.

Even when not in you it has water in it you can easily purge it. The adjustable snorkel keeper works great as well...All around 5 star in my eyes. You will enjoy it to.

I used the snorkel in Cozumel at the end of July, it works quite well, but still allows some water to get in the tube before the valve seals, so you still have to keep enough breath to "blow" the water out of the tube that is the only reason I didnt give it a 5. It is a great improvement over the old style open snorkels, looks great, and is very well made, so if there was a 4.5 out of 5 I would vote that way. Recommend this product.

In that regard, we had confidence with snorkel underwater and on surface that no unwanted salt water would be inhaled making it a great water experience.

I recently spent a few days on the island of Hawaii where I snorkeled several times. I bought the Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkel before leaving and it performed perfectly. I never got water inside the snorkel when diving or when waves washed over me. If any water got in it was either because I tilted my head some crazy angle or when I would spy hop and pull the nmouthpiece out for a few moments to look for wayward snorkeling pals. This water was easily discharged with a blow through the purge valve. My snorkeling experience was fantastic because of a great mask and this very fine snorkel.

For the most part, it worked great. A few times there was a little water, but Im used to blowing it out so it wasnt really a big deal. One time it came unclipped from my mask when I exited the water. I went straight to the outdoor shower to rinse the salt water off and realized I didnt have my snorkel....I ran back down to the water and was able to find my snorkel in some sea grass in shallow water. A man had stepped on it and knew it wasnt a shell or rock. He showed me the area and I found it. The clips were not broken...Im not sure how it came unhooked from my mask??? Anyway, Im thankful that I found it. Heres my advise...My snorkel is clear in color...if I had it to do over again I would purchase a bright color so if it does come unhooked it would be easier to spot in the ocean. It was a miracle that I found it! Again, it is a great product, just buy a color.

The Ultra Dry stayed dry for about 5 minutes on my first snorkeling trip in Thailand last month. Then it let in water most of the time after that. I have never really snorkeled before. I had another snorkel but did not like it I kept getting water in it and I would get choked. I used the Oceanic first in a pool to get used to it. It has a smaller mouth piece than I was used to using, but with a little practice became comfortable with it. I just used it on vacation in heavy surf and it worked great It does not allow any water to enter. It closes evertime water would come over the top. I would highly recommend this product to anyone that wants to enjoy snorkeling without the concern of water entering.

This snorkel tube is great! Its wonderful to know you dont have to always remember to "blow out" the water that may have gotten down the tube from a wave or when you want to go a little deeper. As soon as you feel you are close to the surface you can inhale and if your tube isnt quite above water you will just get no intake of air and know you have to go up a wee further. I would recommend this to anyone who does casual snorkeling and also for those of you who do a lot of snorkeling, just so you have one less thing to worry about.

Rating: Good dry snorkel, but higher quality float mechanism needed.
Reviewer: Tyler K., Sunday, October 19, 2008
When the float mechanisms are working as intended, this snorkel does a good job keeping out water even when fully submerged. A tiny quantity of water enters, but this is easily purged and does not interfere with breathing. The weakness is in the quality, fit and finish of the float/value mechanism. Several times the internal float became stuck in the shroud, preventing the valve from opening and closing, at least once closing off all air even when the snorkel was above the surface. I was able to field repair this mechanism by opening the shroud and freeing the float, but this should not be necessary. I believe the float/valve mechanism should be slightly redesigned to be more reliable. The remainder of the snorkel is well made.

I would definately recomend getting one of these.

I was shocked with how good this snorkel functioned. You need very little effort to clear it once coming up after exchanging from regulator to snorkel. Almost impossible to get water into it when getting drenched by boat wake. Only draw back is the clip for attaching to the mask. Not a good design at all, you will lose your snorkel, but easy to fix with a silicon figure eight and remove the clip. Would encourage anyone who is interested in this to buy you wont be disappointed.

This is not a 100% dry snorkel. It is tons better than the standard snorkel in rough water. The mask attachment needs some attention as I almost lost mine in 40ft of water first day. Purchased one for my wife also, she loved it. If you dont like drinking sea water purchase this snorkel.

slightly less expensive than other "100% dry" snorkels, the Oceanic was a great investment. In moderate chop and waves, the snorkel performs exactly as advertised keeping the chamber dry and letting you enjoy the sights instead of worrying about constant purging. Be advised, however, that purposely submerging the unit is another story. I frequently free dive while snorkeling to depths of 8 to 10 feet and the unit will take on a small amount of water. That said, it is easily expelled with minimal effort without surfacing and doesnt interrupt your dive. I am concerned about the mask connection clip. The clip is small and difficult to bend over my mask strap. Time will tell if it stands up to repeated use. Bottom line, I would recommend this product to others.

I have snorkled in Hunama Bay with a dry snorkel just like this one and LOVED it, in fact I dont think I would have been able to snorkel there without it! Now we are going back with the person who loaned me the snrokel in the first place and figured I had better get my own! Worth the money! :)

Although I havent had much need to test the "ultra-dry" portion of the snorkel, I have used it for several surface swims and this is a nice, comfortable snorkel. The float valve at the top can be removed easily so this can be used as a standard snorkel if preferred.

Bought three of these for the family and used them six days for snokeling in St. John USVI. I used it diving down for a better view, the others stayed on top of the water for the most part. All three of us agreed that the snorkels were the best weve used.

the hype: its 100% dry! (no, it isnt)
the reality: its 99.764% dry (im guessing here). all there is to say about a snorkel is how comfortable it is to use and how dry it stays. well, this snorkel is as comfortable as they get and the random incidents where a or two will slip into it are paltry when you consider how effective it is overall in keeping water out of your mouth. you can easily find snorkels for less money, but after having used several models and gargeling with sea water on a regular basis, i opted to fork over the $$$ and get something that was designed to work as well as possible. and this snorkel is absolutely the best on the market. you wont regret the purchase.

I have been using the snorkel for almost a month. So far it has lived up to its claims. No water has leaked into the snorkel. I have used it while swimming in the pool, lake and ocean. The only thing that caused some concern was jaw fatigue after the first few times using it. I have noticed that after the using it several more times it started to loosen up.

if your looking for 100% dry this isnt the snorkel for you but if your looking for as close as possible this is it. everything works great on this snorkel. if you do get water in this unit (which is rare and minimal) there is plenty of room inside the snorkel to seperate incoming air and water from each other so you can take enough of a breath to clear the unit. love this snorkel

The Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkels helped make my first snorkeling trip to the US Virgin Islands a great success! The snorkel was very comfortable and I NEVER had any trouble with water in the tube. The design of the tube allowed me to turn my head and get a full range of viewing without fear of aspirating. I quickly learned to trust it and could focus on all the activity below the surface. I definitely recommend this snorkel for stress-free snorkeling. dlw

After using cheap snorkels in the Caribbean on previous trips my wife and I decided it was time to buy some good equipment for our Cozumel trip this year. I purchased 2 of the Ultra-dry snorkels and both my wife and I loved them. The mouthpiece was a little large for my wife, but not uncomfortable by any means she said. Mine fit and worked perfectly. Cant wait to use them again!

Some water does enter the snorkel but not as much and not as often as the other snorkels I have owned . So while not quite as dry as advertised , its still the best Ive ever had and I would not want to return it . But I do not understand how water even enters the snorkel because I swim on the surface and the snorkel does not ever submerge .

This snorkel is a dream come true, my husband and I are both so amazed at the difference between our old snorkels and the water problems we had with them and these Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkels, we bought 2 of them and feel that it was money well spent as the difference between old and new was like night and day. A plus was that the shipping was so quick, especially coming from across the country. We used them while down in Middle Caicos for 2 weeks recently and cant wait to use them again.

The snorkel is said to be 100% dry. This was not true. I have another brand snorkel that performs as well as the absolute. I used the snorkel on a recent trip to the Philippines and the snorkel constantly had a small amount of water get into the the breathing tube and did not seem to clear as easily as my other snorkel. The water seemed to stay in the bottom and if you breathed hard you would inhale water and at times i had to surface and remove it to get it to clear properly.

Ok I have to say this is the best snorkel I/we have ever used. I purchased 4 of these before we went to Playa last and everyone just loved them. The dry feature worked with no one having any problems either from waves or when you slipped a little deeper to get a closer look. We had some in the group who were first time ocean snorkelers and not very confident this feature made a huge difference. Ages of users 53 to 22 male and female.
