Being a diver means being in the sun for long periods of time when youre not under the water, so a broad brimmed hat is almost a necessity. Years of sunburn will take its toll on your skin and can, of course, lead to skin cancer, so protect yourself while youre young and enjoy the outdoors for years to come. The ONeil Sonoma Lifeguard Hat is an extremely well made straw hat that is tightly woven with a nice wide, well formed brim that has a finished edge to prevent fraying. The Brim angles down and covers your face and neck nicely. It has a soft sweat band inside the crown and is very comfortable to wear. It also has an adjustable chinstrap that can be cinched up tight when the boat is running to prevent losing it, although my experience is that nothing works to keep a hat on your head on a fast moving boat, and a straw hat will quickly deteriorate in the wind, so your best bet is to remove it during running. I gave the hat 4 stars instead of 5 because the "one size fits all" is just a wee bit big for me. The hat is supposed to sit down on your head but the one I received was just a bit big for me and Im a bigger than average man at 61", 235 lbs, so Im afraid a smaller person might find it oversized. I bought one for my son who has a bigger head that me and it fit him perfectly. Other than that I would highly recommend this hat and I have paid more for hats of the same quality, so this seems like a good deal.
A knive is an essential tool when diving, and this is a great knife for the money. If youve been diving for any length of time, you know that scuba accessories often get donated to Neptune i.e. lost at sea, so I hate to spend a lot for a knife knowing that sooner or later its going to get lost. This knife is as good or better than knives Ive paid five times as much for. It can be secured to a BC strap to make it easily accessible for cutting out of fishing line or killing a fighting fish youve speared (thats why I like the sharp point vs the flat). The knife was so inexpensive, I bought two. One goes on my BC shoulder strap mounted upside down for quick access and the other goes into a BC pocket for back-up.
This is a great wet suit for cooler but not cold water. The attached hood fits well and the suit stretches well with good flexibility.
The lamp is not very bright and the batteries run down pretty quickly. The hand mount works pretty good, but the head mount is awkward and does not stay in place very well unless worn under a hood.
