Aqua Sphere Aqua FM Snorkel Reviews

Aqua Sphere Aqua FM Snorkel Reviews

Reviewer: Katie-Rose R. on 8/3/2008

WONDERFUL invention! Makes lap time go by much faster. - I love using a snorkel with lap swimming because I can breathe more fully and get more O2. Anyway, I had no way of entertaining myself and not feeling bored and ending early. This snorkel works EXTREMELY well. The bone conduction actually works and you hear the music as loud as if youre wearing earphones! If you try it outside of the water, it sounds like its coming from behind you (thats where the auditory part of your brain is), but in water it is normal. You do need to be close enough to a radio station to pick up a signal and it depends on the building the pool is in. However, in the 80-year-old stone building I use, I can get about a dozen stations! It isnt a good snorkel for diving snorkeling because there isnt a closure valve for when you go under (youd be spitting out a lot of water that way). Its perfect for surface snorkeling and lap swimming. You do have to bite down quite firmly to get a good sound, but you adjust to it. Also, you can slightly hear the... View Full Review

Ideations Dive Alert Plus Reviews

Ideations Dive Alert Plus Reviews

Reviewer: Richard A. on 9/28/2008

Works well both below and above water - After owning the older version, above water only, I just purchased the Plus for its ability to sound both below and above. I often lead on dives and having the safety of being able to communicate on all phases of a dive can be important. Case in point,, several weeks ago I was on a drift dive on the West End off the island of Roatan on the East coast of Honduras. On guided dives like that (not led by me) divers are often spread out over a large distance, the viz being 120 ft or more along the wall. Near the end, one of the divers was running lower on air and showed me her computer, though the dive was set up to allow divers to surface in pairs,(the DM leading the dive had surfaced with another diver) the currents at the west end can be quite tricky so I decided to call the remaining divers together, using my Dive Alert, with hand signals to explain the situation and signal for us all to ascend together, both as a safety measure and to help the boat.. The next stop after the west end... View Full Review

Mares Mission Puck Wrist Computer Reviews

Reviewer: Rachel d. on 8/29/2008

After much research... - If, like me, your are purchasing your first dive computer (or even your fifth) and are trying to decipher the reviews and ratings for all of the latest and greatest gadgets out there, I would like to add my recommendation for the Mares Puck. I spent a few months reading, considering, talking to others, checking out my husbands fancy dive computer, and comparing and contrasting every review I could find on dive computers. I am not one of those divers who wants the fanciest computer with all of the latest technology that would do everything but wash your dishes, but I didnt want something that fell short in any category and that I would be looking to replace in a couple of years. T he Mares Puck meets my needs now (OWD) and will grow with me for at least a few years as I become more advanced and move on to nitrox. (No, I dont see myself becoming a super, wreck-diving, re-breather type of diver). It has a nice, large screen, super easy scroll-through menu that just takes the push of one... View Full Review

Sealife Reefmaster Mini 6.0 Megapixel Digital Camera Reviews

Reviewer: Jerry Oliviera on 8/17/2008

Great for what it is - the good: this camera is durable. it has a sturdy encasing that allows it to be stuffed quickly into a bc pocket or accidentally ped on the reef without causing any major damage. it activates quickly and the controls are easy to navigate underwater. the camera takes about ten minutes to learn how to use and is pretty self explanatory, takes decent pics underwater and has a great video feature. for the price, it beats the hell out of buying those underwater disposable film cameras, and in the end is probably cheaper too. the bad: it says it takes pics and video in all environments, but it really is designed for the water, as the land pics i took turned out to be quite grainy and the video had a lot of visible pixels. the battery life is reliable for about one dive unless you put in some lithium batteries, in which case will last you about two full dives. there is a night mode and a flash, neither are very reliable. overall: i bought this camera on a trip to cancun so i would... Scuba Tank Carrier Reviews

Scuba Tank Carrier Reviews

Reviewer: Marc StClair on 8/21/2008

A True Back, Hand, & Shoulder Saver - This scuba tank carrier is one of the most innovated carriers I have seen on the market. I would like to shake the person’s hand that invented this product. It assists in carrying the tank and it relieves stress caused in the lifter’s back, hands, and shoulders when carrying air tanks the old fashioned way. This carrier is very durable, lightweight and easy to use when carrying the air tank to a filling station, vehicle, or even storage. The real secret or trick in using this carrier is to cinch down the straps as tight as you can before use! Once the carrier is on the air tank, leave it on the tank and position the carrier straps so they do not interfere with the BC back plate and tank strap(s). The two stainless steel friction D-rings make cinching to any size tank quick and easy. The formed rubber handle is comfortable and provides extra grip for those that have wet/dry hands. This carrier is cheaper than the ones in my local dive shop. The only “con” is the excess strap... View Full Review

Snorkel Booties - It was two days before our 2 week vacation to Hawaii when my package from Scuba.com arrived. I wasnt sure about these booties when they arrived because they were all about function and not much on fashion. I had already purchased another pair of booties from a local retailer before my saleman at Scuba.Com suggested I try these. When they arrived my husband (an ex Navy diver) explained how these booties were made to fit inside my fins with no bunching or rubbing around the ankle, unlike the other booties I had bought. The sole was flexible enough to allow full movement while inside the fins. Also, when I was out of my fins and just in the booties, they fit so snuggly to my feet that I could grip the rocks in the water and not slip and slide. I never had to fear I would step on something or scrape my feet on coral. Putting on and taking off my fins over the booties were a breeze. They are especially helpful when we were trekking out over rocks or down an embankment to get to... View Full Review

IST Double Hose Retainer Clip Reviews

Reviewer: Billy M. on 9/14/2008

These clips are great. - when we boat dive, its far easier to clip our bcs off to a floating line in the water, put on our drysuits, mask, and fins on deck, and then finish suiting up in the water. one problem that arises sometimes is that regulator hoses, computer hoses, or drysuit inflator hoses can end up tucked in behind your back or under your cumberbund. i put one clip on a d-ring on the lower part of each of my bc straps (two clips total), and clip all of the hoses to the d-rings before i begin donning the bc. inflator hose and computer hose on left, main regulator and safe-second regulator hoses on the right. now all of the hoses are kept in line with the bc straps while i fasten the cumberbund and the waist strap. then i just unclip the hoses and attach/move them to my normal dive configuration inflator hose to drysuit, computer to retractor, safe-second to mouthpiece holder, main regulator to mouth. no more having to undo and take off the bc and start the process all over again! of course, my... canon sd770is under water housing - I got the case for a week long dive trip to the Bahams. WOW I am glad I did. My shots with this camera were so awesome. There were about five other cameras on the boat and my shots were better than those others, which included a Sony in an Ike Lite case, a Sea and Sea with a strob and a Olympus. First this case is small and light compared to all the others. Has a great diffuser that attches well and stays on the camera. The Ike Light case lost its diffuser and the Sea and Sea lost its diffuser we found it and reattched. Full function of the camera under water no setting to forget before putting in the case A ++++. A few times I forgot to match the switch to the houseing, like review to take picture, no problem the case would work just fine.NO LEAKS I put this case to great useage 5 dives a day for a week and looked at my pictures on the boats computer after every dive.So thats opening and closeing that case 50 to 60 time in one week. Aquatec Horse Collar BC Reviews

Reviewer: Derek G. on 8/22/2008

Aquatec Horsecollar BC - as a longtime diver, i was thrilled to find a decent new horsecollar bc as my old one gave up the ghost a month ago after more than twenty years of faithful service. the low profile aquatec bc, with its 40 pounds of lift, fitted my needs perfectly. ive tried different vests but my personal preference for the kind of diving im doing, is a good horsecollar. four dives later im thrilled with my purchase. i have a couple of minor complaints but, overall, this horsecollar bc is a winner. when my buddy handed me a twelve-pound cannonball to bring back to the boat, there was more than adequate lift as i swam on the surface. the complaints: 1) if you have a large head and youre wearing a hood, getting this vest on is going to be a problem. 2) the inflator hose is about 4 inches too short, which means that the inflator unit is sticking up off my chest in a most inconvenient fashion. not a big problem im sure ive got an old hose kicking around someplace. 3) the green-colored power... H2O Tri-View Frameless Mask Reviews

Reviewer: Donald A. Dutcher on 6/30/2008

H2O Tri-View Frameless Mask - No BS Assesssment - THE FACTS: Well made, quality mask. The field of view is outstanding. Mask strap is extra wide in the back. Looks great. MY OPINION: I am 63" and weigh 225 lbs. I ordered the extra large which fits me, but I think my face is not wide enough for this size. When I snorkelled with it on two occassions, the skirt seal broke in the nose area. I repositioned the mask higher on my face so it snugged up under my nose and it seemed to help, but I also had issues with the sides of the skirt folding over towards the front of the mask on a couple of occassions letting water in. THE BOTTOM LINE: The issues I had with this mask are a sizing issue only. Unless you have a larger than normal face, I think the normal size range will be best. This mask has a great field of view and the side windows make it even better, but Im a 3-lens guy. I ordered the black silicone because it wont be brown in a year like clear silicone masks will. It looks cool now and it will still look cool in 10... View Full Review

ONeill FX Firewall Medium Sole Zipper Boots Reviews

Reviewer: Savannah C. on 8/5/2008

Great Boots! - i bought these to use on a canoeing trip on the delaware river. they worked amazingly well. i was able to swim and wade around without hurting my toes on sharp rocks, and when i was out of the water they drained nicely so i wasnt walking around with a boot full of water. some of my companions wore sandals or crummy tennis shoes on the trip, and they were envious of my boots after they had either lost a shoe on the river, banged up their toes, etc. my only complaint is that when the zipper is up on these boots, they are really tight on my calves. they were so tight, i had to unzip them after a while as they were hurting my legs hence the 4 star rating. i guess they are designed for people who have really skinny straight legs... i just wore them with the zipper unzipped for most of the trip, and they stayed on just fine. this tactic might not work for someone wearing them in rough ocean conditions, however, as im not sure theyd stay on in that case. either way, great product! ... IST Classic Round Dive Mask Reviews

IST Classic Round Dive Mask Reviews

Reviewer: Keith Jenkin on 8/15/2008

Like the old days . . . see it all! - Ive had many masks over the years (including some very high-dollar ones) and this mask reminded me of one as a kid. You can see a huge field of view in binocular vision. Thats because there is nothing between your eyes except your nose! Objects off-center and below are seen with both eyes instead of peeping with one only eye at things not right in front. When the contemporary goggle-style masks became vogue, a big "benefit" was less air volume making it easier to purge the mask. Phooey. If you know how to purge, this mask is a snap. And, you can purge the whole mask at any angle, even swimming straight down! (That takes a little practice, but doing it while prone is easy by rotating your head, no need to stop and look vertically to get the puddle to the bottom of the mask.) However, the big thing is the unobscured view. Try it (its cheap). And be prepared for some weird looks from other divers. (My wife says I look "Dorky" whatever that is.) Maybe replace the wimpy strap if it bugs... View Full Review

Oceanic Ultra Dry Mini Snorkel Reviews

Oceanic Ultra Dry Mini Snorkel Reviews

Reviewer: Fran C. on 7/21/2008

Oceanic snorkel - Two weeks snorkeling in Hawaii and this snorkel was great!! As a novice snorkeler (when we arrived) I easily transitioned to a more daring and bold adventurer during our trip, with the knowledge that my snorkel would not allow those pesky ocean waves to swamp my snorkel. From the north shore of Oahu to all of the West beaches of Maui, snorkeling during an ocean kayaking trip (where we swam with the sea turtles!) the crater at Molikini.... my snorkel stayed dry. I had the confidence to venture further than ever before, leaving the crowds behind. My husband is an experienced (ex-Navy) diver and he was a little surprised at how daring I had become with my new best friend. I gained so much confidence being in the ocean, I actually went on a snuba trip at Molikini!! (where the tanks stay on top of the water... ) This snorkel made a huge difference for me and my ability to enjoy being in the water, getting up close and personal with the sea life. It is absolutely worth the extra... View Full Review

Innovative QII Erasable Magnetic Slate Reviews

Innovative QII Erasable Magnetic Slate Reviews

Reviewer: Peng-shun W. on 9/4/2008

It works well but... - This slate works perfectly. Its easy to write and erase with an special angle. Otherwise, youll get a whiten slate. Then youll have to erase again. The trick is to use the eraser slightly touch the slate and erase. If you touch it too tightly, youll get a whiten board. The only catch is that it use a rubber tube to connect two different kinds of pens. One is pencil, the other is a magnetic pen. This rubber tube will come off once in a while and tend to get away from the board itself, if youre not paying attention during SCUBA diving. I lost one in a diving. I have to buy a whole new one. The rubber tube writing device is hard to get. I think the producer should combine the two into a single pen. On one side of the pen, its a pencil, the other side is magnetic pen. The eraser is then located in between the two ends. TUSA SCA-13 is a similar slate. It uses the kind of pen that I just mentioned. Just use one two-sided pen and solve the problem. The following is the picture of... View Full Review

Lubrication Technology Christo-Lube Oxygen Grease Reviews

Lubrication Technology Christo-Lube Oxygen Grease Reviews

Perfect Lube...a must for a save-a-dive kit! - Small 2 ounce tube size container of the recommended MCG111 part number lube for equipment being used with higher mixtures of oxygen (Nitrox) or technical diving air mixtures. A very small amount goes a long way for lubricating O-rings, gaskets, and seals. This stuff is 100 times better than regular silicone because it lasts longer and does not break down with heat or the climate. Plus, silicone is NOT recommended on diving equipment that uses higher percentage of oxygen mixtures. Silicone and higher mixtures of oxygen when combined can present real hazards. I purchased this product when I had to replace O-rings in my regulator hoses, dive computer quick disconnects, and other miscellaneous uses. The small tube fits easily into any save-a-dive kit. Use this product sparingly, it does the trick. Every diver should have this product in their save-a-dive kit. Scuba.com delivered this product in 3 days and it works great, no problems whatsoever. Great cold water jumpsuit! - I wasnt sure about ordering a wetsuit online because of fitting, but all I had to do was call the guys at scuba.com and they walked me through the fitting over the phone. The rep. was very knowledgeable and friendly, and I received a suit that fits me perfectly. The Neosport by Henderson 7/5mm is a great suit for the Puget Sound by Seattle. I was never able to swim out here for more than about 30 minutes before getting cold, with this suit I could stay out all day! It doesnt get too hot, I dont sweat, and adds a great deal of buoyancy (from the super thick neoprene). The suit also has some knee reinforcement, and a good zipper. Be aware that because this suit is so thick it is very stiff, and can be difficult to get on and move around the first few times. I definitely wouldnt try scuba gear over it until it becomes a bit more flexible (3-4 uses at most). Gloves, boots, and a hood may also be needed, but I havent had an issue. If you are swimming in 40-50F temps, buy this suit and get... View Full Review

Good Product w/Narrower Opening - this dry bag works well and is a good size for a few books and a towel or for a change of clothes. its transparency lets you see whats inside. plastic snaps and ring provide multiple attachment options. actual measurements: 13.5" tall 13" wide 3.5" thick at the bottom, narrowing to 0" thick at the top. the opening of the bag is about 10" wide whereas the width of the bag measures 13" the opening is on one side of the bag, 1.5" down from the top. this was a surprise to me as i was counting on a full width opening on the top however, as long as i put my books and other items into the dry bag narrow end first, it works fine. the top of the bag doesnt roll down quite like other dry bags. the bag seals mostly by means of velro and a vinyl on vinyl flap. you can roll down the top, but i dont think its meant to work that way. nevertheless, the bag seals pretty well against big splashes. i havent tried submerging the bag and would want to perform a bathtub test before counting... High tech security for a low tech diver! - Excellent computer for either advanced or still getting your toes wet divers. Ive only used my new AI on about 6 dives, but have been increasingly impressed from the first time I got it wet. It is very simple to use (after reading the manual)and gives you all the info you need to make a safe & fun dive. The screen is easy to read underwater, the backlight is also good. I really like the swivel ring on it, I attach mine to a retractor on my BC, keeping it close to reach, not dragging around on the rocks. The compass is at the perfect angle to read, without losing sight of the info panel. The quick release is a must have option. One quick spin and off you go to review the dive. The warning beeps are loud enough under water. The only data I wish it would save but doesnt, is the remaining air presssure after the dive. Also, it has a 25 dive log, not 250 as the description shows. Im taking it for Nitrox diving to Chuuk (Truk Lagoon) in three weeks and am glad its coming with me. Definitely... View Full Review

Aqua Lung Sport. 3mm Quantum Stretch Jumpsuit Reviews

Reviewer: Scott Steber on 7/26/2008

Great fit, great construction... - I absolutely love the material of this suit. The stretchy neoprene makes it SO much easier to get the suit on. People often criticize these non-traditional materials as being inferior thermal insulators... but in a 3mm suit, is this really a main concern? Chances are you are diving in 75-80+ degree water and you really are only wearing the suit for exposure protection. That being said, as far as 3mm suits go...this suit is pretty warm. There is very little water exchange through the neck/wrists/ankles. The back zipper seal seams to work great, and the ankle/wrist seals are a great feature. They definitely keep water in/out. Every time I got out of the water, onto the boat, I had tons of water collecting around my legs in the suit! Overall I highly recommend this suit. The materials are top-grade. The construction is of high quality, and most importantly... its amazingly flexible and comfortable to wear.

Reviewer: tristan Maass on 6/22/2008

fits like a glove - I bought this wetsuit for cold diving in the West/ Northwest coast. When I first received this wetsuit and tried it on I had a feeling it wouldnt fit, but it just did. I jumped into my apartment pool and it gave just enough. In other words the sizing chart works great. Ill be honest in saying that I havent tested it in cold water yet but it seemed to let very little water in when I tried it in the pool. The merino wool really seems to help with the insulation. It does itch a little bit though, mainly when you are out of the water. If you are really irritated by wool you might want to consider another suit. The 10mm pad in the back is nice for extra insulation and the ankle zippers make donning and removal of the wetsuit a little easier. I have mentioned it to some scuba divers and they have told me that pinnacle is a good brand. This far I am happy with my purchase

A must have survival accessory - small, compact, and effective. as a former navy aircraft carrier pilot i know the necessity of open water survival gear and the need to communicate your presence over a large distance. between march and june 2008 there were 7 instances in the media where divers were left floating in open water for 3 to 60 hours. in the vast ocean, you have three basic concerns staying afloat, staying alive, and being seen. in the daytime, a survival mirror transforms your visual presence from an invisible black dot on the surface of the ocean to a bright dot visible out to ten miles! all the above divers reported seeing rescue craft looking for them but could not get their attention. when you practice with one of these, youll understand how that would immediately change. while youre at it, get a high intensity strobe light for night too. while only visible to the naked eye for 2-3 miles, they are visible to night vision goggles out to 30 miles.
