Questions and Answers for Pinnacle 5mm Kids Escape Step-in Titanium Wetsuit Jacket:

  • Lars:

How do the sizes correlate with kids sizes for clothes!

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Lars, when you are sizing a wetsuit or dive skin. The two most important measurements are going to be your chest/bust and waist. Height is a secondary measurement and weight is the last measurement you take into account.

  • catherine:

My son is 50 pounds - and 4 ft 2 inches. He swims in temperate water, and just freezes. It looks like the small in this product may be too short? He wears a shorty 2mm neoprene wetsuit I bought from you - but its not keeping him warm enough. Need something warmer, without restricting his movement for fly. Suggestions? Thanks

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Catherine, in this suit you would need a size Medium and this would be 3mm thicker and still give him the movement he will need to swim his laps.

    Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

go with the medium. your right a small wouldn''t be comfortable. this might restrict movement but the thicker you go there''s nothing you can do about it.

  • Catherine:

Me again. My son would rather have your 3mm jumpsuit - guess since it covers everything. Trouble is he is already 4 2" - but only 50 pounds. Sounds like he will be tall enough for a large - but not nearly heavy enough for a large - soon. So this jacket would be better for a skinny kid? Would the differences in warmth between the two products be that great?

    Dave  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

A shorty vs. a full suit will have a big difference in warmth since the legs and arms are only half covered. I would still recommend the long suit.

Pinnacle's latest evolution of the Escape two-piece suit system comes in both 5mm and 7mm thicknesses. Both are step-in shorty vests that can be used with any jumpsuit of any thickness or
style to create a two-piece wetsuit for maximum warmth, or as a stand alone product
in warmer waters. They can even be worn with skins in temperate oceans.

• Both include titanium lined neoprene material
• Double glued and blind stitched construction
• Reinforcing disks on every seam intersection
• A full length diagonal zipper that fully opens on the left thigh
• The 7mm variety even has a built-in hood!

The key step to making any wetsuit perform to its ultimate potential is reducing water transfer. This process, whereby water from the diving environment enters and exits the wetsuit, allows cold water to enter the suit and lets bodywarmed water exit; thus chilling the diver, even in tropical waters. PINNACLE nearly eliminates water transfer by creating better barriers to keep cold water out, making more form-fitting products that prevent internal water movement, employing the renowned Merino™ lining system to enable body heat to warm internal water, and then making it extremely difficult for that warm water to escape.

In order to prevent water entry and egress, PINNACLE employs the latest technology in sealing systems. Features like honeycomb o-ring wrist seals, Orcaskin™ forearm gussets, smoothskin chimney seals in the ankles, roll-neck collars with smoothskin sealing surfaces, smoothskin-to-smoothskin sealing surfaces on 10mm spine pads, and the innovative Pinnacle Defense System (P.D.S.) combine in PINNACLE suits to create a significantly better water barrier than in other brands. These sealing systems work as checkpoints, neither allowing water in the suit nor out.

The second step, having a more form-fitting suit, is achieved by offering divers more choices in sizes. PINNACLE offers as many as 17 male, 12 female and 4 children’s sizes in wetsuits, as well as more sizes of boots, gloves, and hoods than most other manufacturers.
PINNACLE has the ability to customize suits to some extent to fit people with more challenging shapes, but with up to 33 stock sizes, one is sure to fit almost any diver perfectly; and a tighter, better-fitting suit leaves less room for water to move, which keeps the diver warmer.
