quick question: I am going on a once in a lifetime trip to Raja Ampat and would love to delve into underwater photography while I am there. I have used simple point and shoot configs in the past, with mixed results. If I wanted to take a step up and improve the quality of the shots/lighting without going all the way to the top, is there a system you would recommend in the $2000-$3000 range all in?
Raja Ampat is famous for their large reef structures. Close up wide angle photography is your best bet for taking unbelievable photos. If you already have an Olympus E-520, than this housing is a good start. You will need the PPO-E05 lens port for your 14-42mm wide angle lens. If you do not have a camera yet, give us a call to explore other options for this trip. Now, you will need a light strobe system to give you enough light to cover the wide angle lens. We recommend a dual strobe package to give you the maximum light angle for your wide angle lens. The Olympus Underwater Digital lighting package uses the Olympus FL-36 TTL land strobe with underwater housing. You can use one of these packages, but having two will work better. Again, give one of our underwater photo instructors a call. We can assist with single strobe close up wide angle shots as well as composition tips for your trip.
