Reviewer: Jennifer Folstad
I like the LavaCore products in general but the sizing is way off. I ordered a size that was larger than a previous top I had ordered and it ended up being smaller than the one I already owned.

Questions and Answers for LavaCore by Oceanic Elite Long Sleeve Trilaminate Merino Shirt:

  • Robin:

Question: Im 510" 155 lb thin athletic build male. The original lavacore black rash gaurd size ML fits me comfortably. I have heard that sizing is odd with Lavacore and that the new 2013 versions are sized differently. What size would fit me best in the Oceanic Elite Merino Long Sleeve? Thanks, Rob

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Use the size chart, the waist and chest are the most important measurements for the fit.

  • Tim:

What are the differences between the LavaCore "Extreme" and "Elite" series?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Tim, the difference between the two is color options and on the elite it has a half zipper in the front where as the extreme does not.

  • gale:

How does the lavacore elite compare to the regular lavacore long sleeve shirt? It said that the elite is for top side sports only? Does that mean it shouldnt be used for snorkeling? If so, why not? Is it not as warm as the regular long sleeve shirt? I like the half zipper in the elite but not if it isnt as warm..

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Gale, you can wear either above or underwater use. The Elite has the half zipper and also has a Merino lining on the inside to help keep you warmer.

Seam Construction

All of the Lavacore seams are overlapped during flatlock sewing to ensure maximum water integrity and reduced waterflow through the seams. Maximum heat retention is therefore achieved when worn in colder water conditions. See diagram. To ensure maximum integrity and longevity of your Lavacore garment the seam cross-overs on the inside of the suit are locked under the threads of the adjoining seam. The seam construction being doubled and flat-locked allows for maximum stretch out of the four way stretch fabric technology without compromising at seam edges.

Panel Design

The Lavacore range includes female and male specific cut and unique design.
Lycra panels with contemporary lines and graphics are incorporated into all garments.
Full Under the Arm Gusset. This ensures there is no rub or irritation on the sensitive under side of the arms and side of the body. It also reduces restricted movement considerably and allows for extra reach without seam strain and damage.
