Rating: I LOVE this light! Hands free and bright!
Reviewer: Timothy Lyons
As a New Jersey diver, most of my diving is on shipwrecks. Murky water means I need a light. Strong currents mean I need two free hands to run a reel or shoot an SMB. The SOLA 500 allows me to have the best of both worlds... I have a powerful, portable, hands free light that allows me to see into portholes and cracks, but I also have two free hands to maneuver or run a line. I switched from a hand held light recently and used the SOLA 500 on my recent trip to the 1,000 Islands. The light impressed my dive buddies who insisted on borrowing the one dive I sat out. Im the only one who got to enjoy the shipwrecks in their true colors rather than green. The light is rechargeable as well. I can get an entire day of recreational dives out of one charge, and will charge overnight to replenish the batteries. The SOLA 500 is the perfect blend of price, performance, and portability. Yes, the big brother SOLA 800 or SOLA 1200 will have more benefits, but you cant beat the price of the SOLA 500!

The Sola offers excellent illumination, and is a great light. Having used the 500 for a few weeks now, I probably should have opted for a 600 (available in the US?) or perhaps even the next model up.

  • rick:

does the Sola 500 come with the battery charger? is the wrist strap large enough to fit over a 3mm glove? Is the wrist strap adjustable? is a protective case included for travel?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Rick, yes the charges comes with the light. The wrist strap will fit over a 3mm glove. There is a soft case that does come with the light for travel.

  • Jim:

Im heading to Bora Bora and am planning to take my Go Pro Hero and video my dives would the 500 LED be sufficient light for my go pro? and will can I mount it on the wrist unit with the camera mount? Thanks Jim

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The camera mount is not specifically designed to fit that camera/light combo. chances are you'll have to devise something. This light would be more than adequate for the use, though.

  • Bobby:

What is meant my "motion" in the title of these Sola Dive L.E.D. lights.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

? "Light and Motion" is the name of the company that makes the light.

  • James:

Does the Sola 500/800/1200 overheat if it is used outside of the water?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Being a LED light it should not be a problem using the light out of the water. If the light was to get so warm you cannot put your hand on it then it should be turned off and cooled down before using it again.
