I just returned from Grand Cayman. The Monopod performed great. I used it snorkeling and while diving it made cool close-ups of sponges and corals. I could never get that close with out it. I will not dive or snorkel without it in the future. Plus another diver used his to guide off a curious reek shark.

I just dove with my Aquapod for a week. It is compact enough. When fully retracted and gives you a long reach when extended. The self portrait mirror works well.but will take some practice to get centered. I had no problems with durability and it held onto the camera securely.

This is a must to the Gopro. You can get closer to fishes without scaring them. It is easy to adjust and use.

Questions and Answers for Sealife AquaPod Underwater Monopod for GoPro Cameras:

  • Sean:

    Are these poles positively buoyant?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

    Slightly negative.

  • Sean:

There doesnt seem a way to continue the chain on the q & a so I apologize for bother another person regarding this monopad. But, if it is not positively buoyant, any ideas on how to change that and/or is there another product that is? Knowing my luck Ill lose this thing the first time I try and use it.

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

You can easily attach a float strap if you need to. http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-540/168100/Scuba-Deluxe-Float-Strap.html

  • Leonard:

will the aquapod fit the sealife 1400 camera?

Aaron  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Dear Diver, Fits all Sealife and other cameras with a 1/4-20 tripod mount.

  • stephen:

Can a camera or gopro be easily rotated so that it can be facing forward or turned for self portraits? Ive used the gopro pole mount and its a pain to have to unscrew the gopro to turn it around.

Elliott  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

There are currently no modules produced by go pro that allow that movement.

  • Laura:

Can this be used with the sea life DC 1000 if the tray and strobe are attached to the camera as well?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Unfortunately not at this time. The screw does not come out of the mount plate in order to replace it with the longer screw required to use the camera with the strobes attached.

  • Laura:

How do you make the camera take a photo while using this device? Is there a button on the end of the pole? Also can you only use automatic point and shoot mode when using this or can you still control the flash etc? Are there controls for this on the pole? ( I use a sealifeDC 1000)

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

To shoot still images with a SeaLife camera and the AquaPod, simply set the camera to “SPY” mode, allowing it to automatically shoot at set time intervals.
