Rating: YS-110 DIGITAL STROBE
Reviewer: Gordon Skiba, Tuesday, February 13, 2007
The Sea & Sea Digital Strobe is a very robust strobe, appears well constructed, and is relatively easy to operate. The controls are readily accessible underwater, and changes can be made to the strobes output with a simple twist of the dial. The illumination light is especially helpful during night diving, and as a means to align the strobe to the camera’s field-of-view prior to the dive. The most complex part of using the strobe, is figuring out how your camera will interact with it... My early efforts resulted in frustration when I attempted to use the camera in the (Automatic) mode, whereby the strobe would trigger at the cameras discretion (not mine!). I ultimately (through trial & error) found the (Portrait) setting allow the strobe to be set (On), rather than relying on the cameras own light sensor to determine if sufficient light was present. This allowed the strobe to fire, resulting in better illumination (i.e., no shadows) and resulted in some remarkable colors that weren’t obvious of the sea-life being photographed. Id have rated the strobe five (5) stars had the price not been so steep ($700). For those who can afford it, Id recommend it as a very versatile addition to your underwater photography collection.

This package is more than I could ask for. The power setting knob and the built-in aiming light are great features. The arms are easy to manipulate make for quick adjustments underwater.
