Rating: Great Camera
Reviewer: Jon R., Friday, May 04, 2012
I purchased this camera to be a good multi-purpose for diving and snorkeling. I cannot be any more pleased with the results. The quality of the pictures during my snorkeling and diving totally surpassed all my expectations. The HD video quality also surpassed my expectations. I really liked the quick start-up when turning on the camera as well as all the different pre-set settings for different diving and snorkeling situations. The large buttons were easy to use. However, this camera also takes great pictures out of water. On my recent trip, one of my favorite pictures was with this camera when I was snorkeling at dusk. I then popped up out of the water to take a picture of the sunset. I didnt even take the camera out of its case and the picture was AWESOME. I highly recommend this camera for anyone who wants a GREAT all purpose water camera.

Rating: Good camera, bad flash
Reviewer: Michael Zenkl, Sunday, March 11, 2012
This is a simple point-and-shoot camera which has some preprogrammed underwater modes which are easy to access, the camera is fast and has good resolution. But in auto mode, the flash is way too "hot". We fixed that in Cozumel first by using the manual flash mode, but even then, the flash is too concentrated at the center, and then by taping a white plastic bag in front of the flash, that improved the pictures a lot but I feel that Sealife should not have you do that. I am buying a Housing for my Sony Nex-7 with an INON flash now, the Sealife is an entry level product but not really worth the expense...

Rating: DC1400 with flash
Reviewer: Tammy C., Saturday, February 18, 2012
I bought this as an upgrade to the DC1200 before my dive trip to Grand Cayman. It was very easy to get used to its functions. I upgraded because when I had the DC1200 for a trip I was not happy with the results without a flash. The flash powers up well. Both the flash and the camera batteries lasted 3 40-50 minute dives without needing to be changed. The arm for the flash was flexible and easily able to adjust while diving. I still am learning technique and how to best position the lighting but the pictures that were with flash had good color even to the deeper depths. The HD video also worked well and in shallower waters held the color. I will definately need to get a video light before my next trip though for better video colors at depth. The one thing I was unhappy with but it may just be me needing to play with it more is close up shots. They were very blurry. I played with it at home too and was not able to get clear close up shots. I see also that the wide angle lens is not available yet. Not sure if a close up lens will be coming out but that would be a nice addition. Overall I was happy with the ease of use, the flash and battery life. Definately a good idea to have extra rechargeable batteries available though.

Rating: Sealife Underwater Camera

Beautiful camera, easy to use on land, and it doestakes good pics underwater. HOWEVER, I do find it difficult to see what I was taking a picture of underwater in the display screen at snorkeling depths. Way too much reflective light from above. I would like to find some type of shading screen to assist in darkening the screen which I hope would deflect the light off of it. Bulky with the flash attachment as well.

This Underwater set up is one of the best non SLR cameras Ive used. It takes a few shots to calibrate the flash. For snorkeling, it should be set at one of the lower settings. The pictures are outstanding.

our second underwater camera - already been out and not quite as simple as point and shoot - but close and some of the pictures turned out great! Like the attached flash. Now Im thinking of a red lens.

Have been using the camera while diving on Bonaire the last 2 weeks. It has performed beautifully on land and in the water. It is intuitive and takes excellent macro pictures. The menu features allow for easy set up of any scene. Overall, one of my best purchases ever!
