Rating: Great Camera
Reviewer: Benjamin L.,
Best decision I have made in awhile! :)
I have read a lot of reviews of underwater cameras. Mostly negative.. It took me months to pull the trigger. I was hesitant to buy this camera, but I am sure glad I did! I have decided that like normal, you reviewer people are entirely too picky. Sure the shutter speed is about a 1 second delay. Sure the pictures arent always perfect unless the visibility is. But you are taking pictures underwater people.. And with nothing but a basic flash!
I am a vacation diver and have never used an underwater camera. I found it incredibly easy to use and have gotten amazing comments from my friends on my first trip with underwater pictures. I have a lot to learn and look forward to using all the capabilities of this camera!

Rating: Sealife DC1400
Reviewer: Delores M.,
We purchased this camera as an upgrade after our DC600 failed (we think we didnt close the housing all the way...it was great at 60ft, not so great at 90ft). After researching we decided to upgrade rather than replace, and could not be happier! The piano key style buttons on the housing are much easier to use once you relearn some of the navigation and the only thing we need to get used to is the extra nanosecond or three for the picture to actually snap, but we are still VERY glad we decided to upgrade, and actually went out and immediately purchased a light for video in addition to the strobe we had for stills.

My new underwater camera was a great success. It was easy to use and it kept perfectly dry. I used it both out of water and in water and I used it shallow dive to snorkel. Pictures were great and I learned a few tricks for my next experience in February. Great products, good prices. Ill be a returning customer.

Questions and Answers for Sealife DC1400 Camera:
Kim:
I have a dc1200 max duo that flooded, would I be able to buy the dc 1400 with the housing and use my same flash and video. Otherwise just replace the whole camera and housing.
Bill (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com)
:
Unfortunately you can not interchange the housings and cameras, but the accessories like the strobe will work with either model. The wide angle lens for the DC1200 will not work with the DC1400 housing.
Reagan:
Is there a warranty?
Bill (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com)
:
They will come with a full manufacturer warranty.
Ken:
Would it be possible to buy a DC-1400 without an external lamp, try it out on a dive trip or two, and if I like the camera, go ahead and buy an external light to add onto it after that? And if so, how much more would the add-on light cost compared to what I would have paid if I had gone ahead and bought it along with the camera as part of a package deal? (Im assuming that I would buy the SL980 photo/video combination light.)
Bob (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com)
:
The basic camera and housing as pictured is what you have been looking at. The strobe or LED Video light can be purchased separate at any time.

I am looking to buy a Camera for my boyfriend, who is a cuba diver. He asked for one that can at least go 150ft. Do you have to put this camera in a case when using it in the water, or the whole camera itself is waterproof?. Also wondering if this is the best camera for the buy? thanks for your help!

The Sealife DC1400 is a great choice and best value.
Fabian:
Thank you for the reply, now I am not actually diving, these are pictures under artificial light. The one problem I have now is that my current camera cannot take good pictures under LED lighting, these come out really Blue, do you know if this has a setting to help with that? The other type of lighting are Metal Halides. Thanks

You would have play with the white balance adjustment to see if you can get a better color. This camera has that ability.
Patrick:
Ive seen some of the pictures that were taken with the DC1400. were those taken with or without the Pro/Video lighting kits? also, are there any filters that were attached to the camera or only the build-in option were used?
Bob (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com)
:
It is diffifult for us to tell, without seeing the images ourselves. Your shots will always be improved by the use of an external flash. Digital photography generally does not require the use of the addtional filters.
George:
my wife used to use a minolta waterproof camera for her snorkelling photos, however she can no longer obtain film for this camera. i have checked out other various cameras (sony, panasonic, fuji, etc.) and the reviews on all these cameras werent to my satisfaction. she doesnt dive but i would like to purchase a waterproof underwater camera that she can depend on and is user friendly. again, someone asked you in your other questions, "does this camera need an housing" or is it waterproof without housing? what about sand or dirt while on the beach, that seemed to be a big concern with the other cameras?
I am looking for a new underwater camera, I am a Coral Reef Hobbyist and take tons of pictures of my corals and fish, would this camera be an overkill? I currently use an Olympus 710 with underwater casing, which takes great pictures and have gone through two of these cameras. Here are some of the pictures I take and want to continue taking.

This will be a great camera for the type of diving you are doing.
Jennifer:
1. How deep can you go and still take photos with the DC1400?
2. The photos I see on line dont seem to have a clear plastic housing. Is this something I have to buy as an additional item or is the DC1400 already enclosed and ready to use at depth?
Darrick (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com)
:
It is depth rated to 200 feet where you could still take photo's. The photo we have online is of the camera inside of the durable black waterproof housing. The inner camera which can be removed and used on the surface looks like this: http://www.scuba.com/shop/display.asp_id_168213
So this summer Im going on a trip to Thailand, and will be scuba diving everyday for 3 weeks there. I have been scuba diving in the Caribbean before and used a disposable underwater camera where my pictures came out awful and barely visible. Obviously this camera will be better, but is it worth the price? This is a once in a lifetime trip for me and I may never see the creatures I see in Thailand ever again so I really want to get amazing shots. Do you think I should buy this camera, and even maybe invest in the flash? Also, we will be diving to about 100 feet, will this camera be okay to do so?
Bob (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com)
:
This camera is one of the most affordable in it's category and will work perfectly for your uses.
Charity:
Do you sell the DC1400 pink edition as a stand alone camera with housing package, without the Pro Duo kit?
Bill (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com)
:
They have been sold out and are no longer available.
