Rating: Getting Great Shots with my new DX-1200 HD
Reviewer: Todd H., Monday, June 22, 2009
i decided to upgrade my camera before my cozumel trip back in may. i did some research and from what i read and what i had budgeted, i decided on the sea & sea 1200 hd islander package. it came with (almost) everything and the case was such an awesome bonus. and it even comes with a wide-angle lens.
ive been so pleased with this cameraboth underwater and above. i seldom used my old camera out of the water (sealife reefmaster mini) but this one is just as great out of the housing.
the hd video is great. the shots i got in coz and on my recent trip to costa rica were awesome. the resolution is fantastic and the clarity is off the charts when compared to my old 6mp unit.
some unsolicited advice based on now using the camera on three trips:
1) buy two or three extra batteries. they arent expensive and unless you have an ac outlet on your boat, youre going to want to have one fully charged battery for every 45-60 minutes of diving. i tried to adjust the sleep and power off settings but i found having to take the time to turn the camera back on all the time made me miss some shots.
2) get the upgrade strobe. im a workin man and dont like to toss money away but i really like the adjustability and light from the ys-110a strobe.
3) use the moisture munchers inside the housing as directed. when i changed batteries on my latest trip, the silica pack slipped out and got wet. i didnt think itd be a big deal and didnt get a new one. little did i know that id have a fogged inside lens that didnt clear until the dive was almost over. teach me not to listen to instructions... :) the camera comes with a bag of moisture munchers so keep them sealed and handy and use them every time.
finally, big props to the guys at scuba.com. i have shopped with another online store here in texas for a while but really appreciated the advice and professionalism i received when i called and talked cameras. i probably wouldnt have gotten the islander package or the strobe upgrade but when i talk with the guys on the phone i feel their recommendations were spot on and im so pleased with my purchase.
in my opinion, the hd1200 was an awesome combination of features and price that i was looking for. for me, it was one of my best scuba purchases ive made.

Rating: Great Package and Results
Reviewer: Donald R., Wednesday, May 27, 2009 - View all my reviews
Just came back from Grand Cayman and Nassau, Bahamas, in which I took over 300 pictures during reef and wall dives. I was very pleased with the simplicity of use and the ability to change settings under water. The pictures of lion fish, turtles, tuna, ship wrecks, and the reefs themselves all turned out fantastic.
My only caution about this camera is that the battery life shown in the window goes from full to empty very quickly without showing much progression. I have a spare battery and recommend changing between dives regardless of reading.
