Rating: "Professional" Looking Pictures on First Dives
Reviewer: Jon Hall, Sunday, May 06, 2007
the sealife reefmaster mini performed above my expectations and was actually easier to work as any digital land camera i have owned.
my experience began by purchasing the camera from scuba.com $50 less than what the dive shops would sell it for. the price included photography software which really makes it a great deal (as i have found out.)
features of the camera that i was most happy with included:
* the size is comparable to most digital land cameras not a hinderance when diving
*quick to power on (no lens cover to wait for to open)
*big lcd monitor allowing for easy viewing
*menu button allowing for quick changes between land and underwater modes
*easy to operate buttons that allowed zooming in and out and switching between still and video modes the flash is automatic...i was able to take several stills and 30 seconds of video of an octopus and eel because the buttons are so easy to manipulate
*2 aa batteries...as camera warns of low battery, i prefered using regular or long lasting batteries because if battery power goes low on 2 tank dives, the batteries can be replaced between dives (not so with rechargable batteries unless you are carrying extras)
how good is the camera? on the third dive of my trip (st. croix, v.i.) i thought i would try out the digital external flash. when attached, the cameras built in flash is covered up. we were between 80-100 ft down and i was having a great time taking pictures. when we were back on the boat i realized i didnt turn the external flash on....pictures came out as well as those taken at 40 ft.
now to be honest, i didnt know how well the pictures would really look when printed...on the lcd monitor they looked bluish. this is where the software comes in....once installed on your computer you can work wonders with the picture including giving the picture its true color....with the click of only one button. also a great feature allowed zooming in on subject matter with no loss in focus....makes you think you were right beside what you took the picture of. i had fun labeling my pictures with text before printing them.
the only drawback i experienced with this camera was after the first dive. i used the batteries that came with the camera and they werent strong enough to work the camera on the next dive.
friends couldnt believe the pictures and several thought i had a second career as a "professional" underwater photographer.

Rating: Great for what it is
Reviewer: Jerry Oliviera, Sunday, August 17, 2008 - View all my reviews
the good: this camera is durable. it has a sturdy encasing that allows it to be stuffed quickly into a bc pocket or accidentally ped on the reef without causing any major damage. it activates quickly and the controls are easy to navigate underwater. the camera takes about ten minutes to learn how to use and is pretty self explanatory, takes decent pics underwater and has a great video feature. for the price, it beats the hell out of buying those underwater disposable film cameras, and in the end is probably cheaper too.
the bad: it says it takes pics and video in all environments, but it really is designed for the water, as the land pics i took turned out to be quite grainy and the video had a lot of visible pixels. the battery life is reliable for about one dive unless you put in some lithium batteries, in which case will last you about two full dives. there is a night mode and a flash, neither are very reliable.
overall: i bought this camera on a trip to cancun so i would have something to take pics with since i knew i was going to be seeing some amazing sites. i ended up using the video mode more than the camera mode, because for some reason the camera shuts itself off when the battery gets low or the memory card fills up. i am however, glad that i bought it because some of the shots and footage i got were priceless. good purchase, good deal. its a camera that works great in well lit, underwater conditions for snapshots, buddy pics, and quicktime vids.

Rating: Sea Life Mini
Reviewer: Everett N., Friday, April 11, 2008
I purchased the camera because I was tired of using the film cameras and I already had several digital cameras that water tight cases were not available for. I did not want to spend a bundle since I do not dive on a regular basis. I am certified but make about 5 to 10 dives a year. I saw the camera and read a lot of reviews by camera experts. I decided to try the camera. I took it with me to Kauai and used it on my dives. It was very easy to use and the pictures came out great. The features such as the SEA setting for underwater made the pictures much better. It even took great pictures when I traveled around the island. I found the camera to be a great value and would not hesitate to buy another. In fact the dive shop where I dive from was going to purchase several to rent out to customers.
Scuba.com was easy to buy from and was very quick to deliver the camera to me. They had an excellent price also.

Rating: Great Camera for the Price
Reviewer: Scott M., Monday, July 23, 2007 - View all my reviews
This is the best buy I have made in a while. It is easy to use, simple to understand with the directions and offers topside as well as underwater advantage. I like the fact that I dont need a camera housing to take it underwater. I like the fact that it uses AA batteries and not the real expensive specialty batteries. I like the fact that it is expandable with an SD card and the software that comes with it is easy and helpful for adjusting the quality of the pictures - if its needed. It has an underwater setting so the colors that are naturally blocked by the density of the water are accommodated when the format is set to underwater mode.
Great pictures without spending what professionals have to purchase. For short money, it can be used under or above the water with ease. We really enjoy it and are glad we made the purchase.

Rating: Nice
Reviewer: James Myers, Friday, August 08, 2008
This camera, for the size and cost, gave me excellent shots on my first dives using it. It works best in shallow water (not greater than 40 feet) and on a very sunny day. Any variation from this and you will end up photoshopping your colors in too much. It does take great topside photos and is fun to play with in the swimming pool while relaxing/goofing off after a long day of diving. Kids loved the pool pics (both above and under the water). If you dont take your underwater photography too seriously and just want to get a good record of your experience, this is the camera for you. If you really want vivid, natural colors, you should go for the optional flash (or two). If you want to publish or enter photo contests, you should upgrade to a higher quality camera. Great for the casual user, though. Great for my purposes.

Rating: I like it
Reviewer: Steve H., Thursday, July 05, 2007
i think this camera is great. it takes good pictures and is easy to use. so far ive only taken it down to 10, but even at night in the pool i got great shots of my family horsing around. ive no reason to believe it would work any differently when i take it diving. the buttons are large and easy to use. the view finder is big. the rubber armoring is also great. i already ped it on a rock on a hike above treeline and it still works. it takes good pictures above and below the water. best of all i do not have to worry about taking a housing on and off. if you are an avid photographer who really wants a high performance camera, this is probably not for you. but if you want a basic digital camera that takes good pictures, can go anywhere you go, and is durable enough to take some abuse, id recommend this one.

Rating: A good camera...
Reviewer: Ken N., Monday, August 27, 2007 - View all my reviews
As other reviewers have said, if you are looking for a camera that will work really nicely above and below water, this isnt the best choice. HOWEVER, if you are looking for a simple point and shoot camera that also takes good quality daylight pics on land then this is it. I feel like I definitely got my moneys worth. The video feature is crude, you wont be sending video to National Geographic, but it will impress your non-diving friends. It was weird going over the side with a camera that has no housing, but after diving eight times with it, so far so good. I would recommend buying extra "O"rings since its the only thing between the electronics and the water, its worth replacing often. Knowing what I know now, Id buy it again.

Rating: Good camera made even better by scuba.com
Reviewer: JOSEPH H., Thursday, August 30, 2007
This was an exceptional buy, based on the quality of the camera and the price I found on scuba.com. I have owned UW cameras before however, not one this small. I purchased it for a cruise in August and could not have been happier. I knew about the battery consumption issue so, I brought along several rechargeable replacements and changed the batteries out after any dive in which I had less than 3 bars of power and never had a problem. It takes great pictures and the soft ware included with the camera is a nice addition. I also purchased the wide angle lens and it came in very useful on close ups. Overall, I would definitely recommend this camera and scuba.com!

I got this camera as my first underwater camera. It functioned well and I was able to get some nice pictures even in the somewhat murky water in Maine. The pictures were easily downloaded to my computer and I used Adobe Photoshop to modify/color correct them. It also worked well as a sturdy waterproof camera to take on a kayak trip.
It definitely helps to play with all the settings before using the camera. The buttons are a bit small and close for heavier gloves and the print on the menu displays is a bit small for older eyes. In general I think this is a wonderful camera, especially to start with. I look forward to trying it with a strobe.

Reviewer: Sheri Gilbert, Wednesday, September 17, 2008
this camera is amazing! i have had no experience at all with underwater photography, but this camera was so easy to use, that i felt comfortable with it during my first dive. out of the twenty shots that i took, sixteen of them were "keepers" and five of them were "magazine" quality. this thing is idiot-proof. oh, i also ped it from about five feet onto the boat deck without any damage suffered. lots of settings, easy to use buttons, and it takes great pictures above water as well. i cant wait to get the external flash. i highly recommend this camera due to its modest price, ease of use, and, great picture quality. jerry gilbert

Rating: Works Great for Me!
Reviewer: Arlane Miller, Saturday, August 02, 2008
I just returned from 6 days in Nassau, Bahamas. I used the camera on 6 different dives from 20ft to 98ft. It worked great. This is my first underwater camera, so I am still learming the settings, but the pictures I took at Barracuda reef at 25ft look spectacular! One day it was raining and at 65ft some of the pictures were too dark, but others are ok. The trick is to get in close, 2 - 4 feet. If you use too much zoom, the pictures tend to get a little grainy.
The Camera has a "sea" setting that adds red back into the picture. It works!
Great camera, I recommend it to those that are beginners, like me.

Very good camera for taking pictures both above the water and below. The buttons were easy to figure out without looking over the manual (I read it anyway. Its my son who started using the camera without reading the manual). The pictures were clear and gave good depth perception. At first I was somewhat apprehensive of pushing the buttons at 60 feet below the surface. No problems developed when I did, so I proved to myself that the camera really is water-proof. The zoom lens also works well and is very easy to use. I like the camera and plan on using it to take all my pictures in the future.

Dear Reader:
I have tested the Sealife Reefmaster Mini 6.0 Megapixel Digital camera. I have found it to be reliable and robust. Thus far the picture quality, both single and video work perfectly. What is really nice, from my perspective, is the ruberized coating for shock protection. This feature alone sets it apart from all others I have investigated. I highly recommend this camera for anyone who spends time outdoors around water.
Have a safe summer fishing. And have a safe summer regarding all other water sports.
Sincerely

I was a bit reluctant to buy another Reefmaster. I had purchased two earlier models at costs well over $500. I took the chance as the price of this model seemed reasonable. I just got back from a trip to Cozumel and let me tell you this camera is in my opinion terrific! It is easy to use and very compact no more large housings and the zoom feature is easy to use under water even with gloves on. It is samm enough you can tuck it into you BCD if for some reason you need to use both your hands. I feel it is a good value for the money. I am glade I took the chance.

I was surprised that a camera with a fixed focus lens would take such great pictures! I was led to believe from past comments that out of the water shots would be lacking. I took several group shots and scenery shots all of which were excellent. As such, I plan to usethe camera while snow skiing.
Conditions in Maui were not ideal underwater because of a storm on nearby islands. The water was stirred up and cloudy. The sea mode added reds and yellows to the photo which helped. A little tweaking in iPhoto produced very decent underwater photos!

This camera is worth twice the price. Started it on dry land, got very good pictures. Next went to the Bahamas the diving was unbelievable and so were the results of the camera.Pictures were very clear, camera was easy to use even on the first dive. Best part, the small size permits ease of use and can be kept in BC when not taking photos. Most people who see photos cant believe their that good. Have used cameras for years this is one of the best. Takes great pictures when raining, snowing etc.Weather Proof.

I am pleased with the size and ease of use of this camera. I am displeased with how quickly it uses up batteries. I am somewhat disappointed in the quality of the underwater pictures, but some were very good. This could be just a learning curve problem. My pictures did get better toward the end of dive trip.
All in all, a fine camera for the price. Wish I had gotten an SLR, but for the difference in price, I just cant justify several thousand for a few pictures a year.

I just returned from Bonaire this month with my new Reefmaster Mini 6.0 digital camera. This camera was all I had asked for. Compact enough to fit inside my BCD for shore entrys. Easy to operate and understand, and the best part. It took some really great pictures! I also purchased the wide angle lens and the 1gb digital card. I would stongly recommend the 1gb digital card for the best possible photos. Great camera, I cant wait to use it again on my next dive trip to Belize.

I was a little leary about this camera for the price it sells for. Postive comments=Its turns out this camera is great. I use it for all ocassion(water, land, sports, etc.)Very easy to use straight out of the box. it takes great clear pictures. Easy to tranfer to computer. The only negative thing I can think of is,the control buttons are some what close to together and if wearing gloves it could be a problem. Other than that I would deffinitly recomend this camera. JOE in MD

I looked at a lot of other cameras before deciding on this one, but what won me over is the features it offered for the price. Are there cheaper cameras out there? Of course! But this seemed to be the best price for what it offered. It took great pics and was actually really easy to use under the water. Also, and this is just vain, but I got several complements on the look of the camera as well - which surprised me. I would definitely recommend this to others.

A relatively easy camera to use, and nicely compact making it easy to stuff into a BC pocket. It takes nice pics, and with the extra memory card you can take quite a few. However, it eats through batteries in two dives, so plan to either buy lots, or get rechargeable ones. You also need to be meticulous in your cleaning and drying. After just 6 dives all the bottons started to stick, and I thought I was doing pretty good at keeping it clean.

Well I just got back from a trip to Mexico, where I did the shake down of Reefmaster Mini 6.0 Megapixel digital camera that I just purchased.
All I can say is the camera is now an awsome piece of my scuba equipment and will be on all my dive trips.
For the price it is well worth it, and takes fantastic pictures.
I also purchased the wide angle lens which just enhances this already excellent product.
I would give it 5 out of 5

So far ive only used the camera in the lake where the vis was terrible so the pictures turned out dark and cloudy, but I had it down to 75 ft with the water temp in the mid 40s with no problems. Despite what the description said some of the buttons were too close together and hard to push with thick gloves on. The dry land pictures were somewhat disappointing a lot turned out very blurry, while some were clear for no obvious reason.

Havent had it in the water yet, but so far Im happy with this purchase. Its a basic camera, but seems to have a lot of features and settings to play around with, and I love the built in housing. It can take good above water pics too. My only complaint is that the battery life seems really short, and I havent even had it in cold water yet. Ill pick up some rechargables for it and I would recommend for other to do the same.

This camera is easy to operate, does stills and/or mpg video. in water as well as on land. I had good results the first time I used it.
For Diving the "optional" wide-angle lens is a must, especially in medium visibility situations.
Night diving requires a modeling light, and Ill probably add an external flash.

My wife and I have been using this camera in the Bay of Fundy. Visibility has been very limited this summer but we have managed to take some good photos. Definitely need a strobe to achieve optimum quality.

Camera is pretty good but buttons stick after one use in ocean and it keeps scrolling over pictures until we pulled it out with a tool. They still stick but now we know how to pull them out. Not good.

I couldnt be happier with this camera. Its very easy to use and it is a great value. I snapped off some amazing pictures on my most recent diving trip with it and it was my first time using it.

This is a nice little camera. It takes a high quality picture and captures color well. I have a hard time opening and closing the memory card compartment. Good buy for the money.
