Rating: XS Scuba Bifocal Gauge Reader 2 Mask Review - Scuba Gear Reviews
Reviewer: Patricia A.
I took a chance and bought this mask for a trip to dive with whale sharks in Indonesia. I knew that I didnt want to spend my time under water struggling to try to read my electronics and camera. I wanted to be concentrating on just enjoying the experience. The mask fit very well and had no leaks and the plastic front was very clear with no distortion. There were no scratches on the lenses even after being thrown into the fresh water soak tub. I wasnt able to get a perfect focal point with both eyes for very close viewing as the nose piece added length, but there was plenty of magnification with one eye at a time to read my gear. I normally wear glasses and have contacts but lose vision sharpness when trying to read my gear though contacts, mask, and camera housings. For the price it was excellent. I would recommend the product. I didnt give it a 5 because of the inability to focus both eyes at once looking through the readers at close up. My camera shots came out great. Thanks!

I need a mask with built-in readers so I can see my gauges. This makes works well and is comfortable. However, it seems they simply attached the magnifying lens on top of, and inside, the main mask lens. It looks and feels firmly attached but the top edge of the reader lens is fairly sharp. No big deal but youll need to me careful when applying mask defog drops.

Rating: Great mask at a great price

I considered using the glue-in readers but after hearing issues other divers have had I decided to go with this mask. The mask fits great, the readers are larger than the glue-in kind and the angled bottom makes checking gauges or camera settings a breeze. Another advantage is the price. I was due for a new mask and this was similar or even less expensive than some of my other choices without the readers.

Rating: Bifocal mask

as ive gotten older, i need a magnifier to read small print. while diving ive been using the stick on magnifiers. the problem is they fall off when in a wash bucket. the cost keeps getting higher to replace them. i decided to try a mask with a built in lower magnifier. i find i can read my computer information without any problem. the mask is well made and after adjusting the straps fits well, even with my mustache -)

Questions and Answers for XS Scuba Bifocal Gauge Reader 2 Mask:

  • Tri:

Hi, Is it tempered glass and anti fog mask? I use -1.50 both eyes in ground, if I wanna buy this product, do I use -1.50 or - 1.00 because in underwater everything looks bigger and closer. Thank you

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Tri, yes this is a tempered glass and if you are a -1.5 then that is what you will need to order.

  • Liz:

Last time I dove I used a small magnifying glass to see my gauges. I was wondering if this mask would work. I dont like the idea of the stick ons. Can anybody help me?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Liz, if you need the bifocal of +1.75 (Unique bifocal design with +1.75 positive diopter magnification in lower one third of the lenses) then yes this mask will work for you. If you need a stranger lens then you would need to go with a different mask.

  • ARMAND:

.are stronger magnifications available? For close-up Id need +2.75 d.o. and 1.75 for more distant objects, like an humuhumunukunukuapuaa, for instance!!

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Armand, you would need to go with a different optical lens mask. On the mask in question has a set bifocal they can''t be changed. But we do have other bifocal masks that can be set with different diopters.
