Rating: Snorkelling Confidence Restored
Reviewer: Michael S.
We just came back from Roatan where I tried this vest for the first time. Im extremely happy with it! ! I love snorkeling but Im not a strong swimmer and had a bad experience snorkeling in choppy waters a couple of years ago. This vest allowed me to stand up in deeper water when I needed to make adjustments to my mask and snorkel. Also, when snorkeling I feel more confident with the extra buoyancy the blow up feature gives. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it does ride up a bit, but its a small price to pay for the benefits. My husband got an extra large, and I got a large. Sizing is fine for us. Jean S. Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Rating: Innovative Jacket Style Snorkeling Vest Review - Scuba Gear Customer Reviews
Reviewer: Horace Payne
We purchased the snorkeling vest for my wife to use on vacation in St. John. Since she is not 100 percent comfortable in deeper water ,so this vest gave her the confidence to go snorkeling where we went. It turned out to be a great purchase because without it she would have been setting on the beach ! Thanks. Buck payne

I loved it! I am not a strong swimmer and recently snorkels in Roatan Hondures. This vest allowed me the ability to feel very comfortable to snorkel in area of 50 feet of water with out fear. The vest has a neopene belt and back which gives buoyancy and allows you to use as little or as much air as you want in the jacket. I was very comfortable and had great range of motion.

Rating: Size was deceiving
Reviewer: Suzanne B.
I thought I was getting an Adult Large and it came as an Adult Medium which was disapointing as it will only fit my daughter and no one else.

  • Linda:

I am 56" tall, weigh 190lbs. And 67 years old. I have snorkeled once and loved it. We are planning a trip to the Caribbean and decided to invest into snorkeling equipment. What size would I need in a snorkeling jacket and/or vest. Thank you in advance. Linda

The adult size should work fine.

  • Linda:

I am 62 inches and weigh 115. What size vest would be best. It would be hard to imagine I could wear something a 200 lb. person could also wear. Thanks in advance for your reply.

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

    Adult size should work.

  • Mike:

Hi going to Bahamas with fiance. She would be first time snorkler. She is 53" and weighs 106lbs. Would this be a good vest for her? If so Adult or Child size? Thanks!

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

The Junior vest should fit well.

  • Cherry:

Where is the scuba .com logo located and how large is it? Also is the logo anywhere else, I.e. the whistle?

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

The logo is only located on the back top of the vest, about 3-1/2"

  • stephan:

Does the snorkle safety vest type that looks like a jacket, ride up because of no crotch strap? Is it more comfortable or encombering to wear than the single piece vest with the hole in the middle and the crotch strap?

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

    More comfort and better floatation.

  • Jim:

What does this vest weigh and is it small enough to fold up and put in an airline carry on bog?

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

About 1.1 lbs and folds-up easily for travel

  • Louise:

does this vest inflate? i would assume that it does however, i cannot find anything that specifically states that it does.

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Yes the tube on the left shoulder will allow it to be inflated and deflated.

  • Karen:

My son is 9.5 yrs old and 88.8 lbs. It seems that he is very close to needing the 100lb adult vest instead of the child vest. My daughter is 8 yrs old and 83.4 lbs. Which do you recommend that I order for both children?

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

The child vest as the jacket should fit snug rather than loose. As long as the item is not used in the water you have 60 days to refund or exchange it.

  • Joan:

What is the life expectancy on these jackets? I have never had good luck in the past with anything inflatable.

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

As long as they are rinsed and dried prior to storing and are laid flat when stored they should hold up well.

  • Shannon:

Im taller but between the weights of the other folks that have inquired about the correct size. Im a 6 4" male 210 pounds Should I get Large or XL ? Thanks, Shannon

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

The XL would be the best choice.

  • Graham:

My understanding is that the keyhole style vest allows one to float easily face down. Does the jacket style work the same as the keyhole or does it tend to keep the user upright? What makes it more comfortable than the traditional styled vests? Without a crotch strap, what keeps the jacket from floating up?

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

It is simply a different fit for some people who don't like the Mae West style bcd. The other style allows for face down use when not inflated but will tend to lean the user BACK with their face UP when inflated, by design.

  • Larry:

My wife is 54" and large breasted. She weighs about 200 lbs(she wont say). Is adult large or extra large recommended for the inflatable Innovative Jacket style Snorkelling Vest?

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Larry, I would suggest going with the XLarge

  • robert:

My wife is 57" 200 lb,s with 38DDD breast. what size would best work for Her. Also can this vest be used with out the crotch strap. Thanks Robert

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

    the XL

  • Sharon:

Im confused when I read the q&a. Some replies says this one has a crotch strap some replies says it doesnt. Does this vest come with a Crotch strap? What size for female 56" 200 lbs?

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Sharon, this vest does not have a crotch strap built-in to this vest. it has the 2 clips in the front and then the cummerbund around the waist.

  • pat:

what size should I buy? im 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weigh 138 lb.

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

    The adult size

  • pat:

I just bought the Innovative Jacket Style Snorkeling Vest. I cant figure out how to inflate it. There are no instructions. Please advise.

    Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

You push down on the end of the hose and exhale.

  • Richard:

I am 5 10" and weigh 183 lbs. I ordered the XL size because that is what I usually wear in shirt size. Is the vest going to be too big or can I adjust it to fit okay?

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Richard, yes you can adjust the waist strap on this snorkel vest.

  • brandon:

  • Reed:

I am 66" tall and 245 lbs will the xl fit?

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

  • Rick:

Hi... Im of a solid, husky build coming in at 6 & 300lbs. I have broad shoulders, a chest measurement at 50" and a neck of 20". I usually can wear XXXL shirts. Will the XL work for me? Thank you,

    Aaron  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hi Rick, That will work fine for you.

  • A:

Will the small fit a 6 year old child (approx 47" tall, 45 lbs) or will it still be too loose to properly use?

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

No. The small is suitable for a teen or small adult.

  • Elizabeth:

I am going to be taking a trip with my four year old son to Bermuda. Obviously he is not a strong swimmer but he is capable of floating and swimming in the pool. He loves to dive for objects while wearing goggles so I know he will love to snorkle. Does this adequately keep a child upright while still being able to lay flat? We do not have plans to take him out but in the shallows with a parent next to him I want to be sure this investement works the way I think it does.

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Yes. That''s the primary purpose of any of the snorkel vests and should do well.

  • Constance:

Am 5 ft 97 lbs. should I use child or adult. There seemed to be mixed advice when I read on this product. Child vs adult size.

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Constance, going by your size you stated I would suggest going with the child size. If you have a chest larger than 35" I would suggest going with the Adult size. If not then go with the child.

  • Mary:

Hi - I am not a good swimmer and not real comfortable in deep water!! But I am going to snorkel in Bonaire and want to purchase a life jacket. I am torn between the one that just fits over your head with a crotch strap or the other one that is more like a full life jacket. What would you recommend? I like the full looking life jacket by Innovative but it seems it lacks a crotch strap....can one be added?? Thanks for your help.

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Both types work very well. It mainly boils down to a matter of comfort for the user. The jacket style can be a little bit bulkier where as the over the head vest style is more streamlined when not in use and not nearly as much in the way. The jacket style can "feel" more secure for a person who is uncomfortable in the water as the air wraps around the user allowing them to float upright on the surface as opposed to laying back.

    Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello, I would go with the jacket style. A crotch strap can not be added but it will still be secure.
