Rating: A very handy safety device

Our dive master in Mexico used one of these on our dives. The visability was minimal and this device was very effective in communicating location and getting our attention. Highly recommend having one of these!!!

Rating: Not very good underwater
Reviewer: Vitaly Gritsenko, - View all my reviews
Although its very loud on the surface, nobody can clearly hear it underwater if you are beyond about 10 meters apart.
I found a trick, if you can see other person, watch when he inhales and then sound the scub-alert, otherwise the bubbles sound blocks all other sounds around the diver

This is a great signaling device under the water as well as at the serface. Much louder than the standard whistle. Only draw back is you need air in your tank so keep your whistle in a pocket just in case.

Rating: SCUB-ALERT SURFACE AND UNDERWATER AIR HORN
Reviewer: Ross Neill, - View all my reviews
great device for teaching...not too loud on surface, but enough to contact boat at 100 yards. under water, the quack does not frigthen the students but rather gathers their attention and dms notice and react fast.

I am fairly impressed with the horn, my only dissappointment is that it is not quite as loud underwater as I had hoped.
However, having said that, it is an important addition to a divers bag of safety devices to be carried at all times, especially when drift diving.

Rating: How bad do you want to be heard?
Reviewer: David F. Wyckoff, - View all my reviews
Overall I am happy with our Scub-Alert air horns. Underwater the Scub-Alert works well and does get the attention of the people around you with a "quack" sound, however, on the surface it is not as loud as I expected, in the ocean with all of the ambient noise I would not expect it to be heard past a hundred feet if even that far (my wife disagrees and says fifty feet if even). If you are looking for a Scub-Alert of this type I would recommend finding one with a loud shrill or a sound that is more likely to be heard as a distress sound and travels further.

Works as designed when hooked up to the BC. Never had a chance to use cant tell if an inflatable sausage would be a better investment.
