I needed to find a pair of 2 mm shorts I could wear under my swim short as the water cools off in the fall. these are perfect, they keep you warm and because they are thin enough you cant tell you are wearing them. Very comfortable.

Questions and Answers for Rip Curl 2mm Dawn Patrol Wetsuit Shorts:

  • Mike:

How would these Rip Curl 2mm shorts be for warm water snorkeling?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

These work great for warm water.

  • Melissa:

Are these waterproof, i.e. will I stay dry underneath?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Unfortunatly these are not waterproof. We don't offer anything like waterproof shorts. The next best thing would be going into a drysuit but it's a much larger investment.

  • Jerry:

This product will keep a person dry? the reason I ask is my wife has cervical cancer and can no longer get in water and is wanting to swim in her pool. What would the sizes for a women be and whats the ship time?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Jerry, this item is not designed to keep you dry in the part that it covers. It is designed to trap a thin layer of water between the suit and your body. Over time your body will warm that water up and the shorts are designed to reflect that heat back to your body. No scuba diving manufacture makes items like this to keep you totally dry. Unless you are wearing a dry suit: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-19/Dry-Suits-Dry-Suits.html.

  • Sanford:

Are these okay to wear underneath a 7mm wetsuit? Will they "ride up" like shorts? or be too bulky?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

That is actually one of their most popular uses.

  • K:

I need these shorts for medical issues are they waterproof if I go for a 10 mile walk and I do a lot Will the sweat leak through and show on my Sweat pant or worse leave water marks on cloth covered chairs Thank you

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello K.R., no these are not waterproof but they will add warmth to your current set-up.

  • Gary:

Is this available in both mens and womens sizes? What are the inseam measurements on a mens XLT and on a mens XXL.

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

This only comes in mens. Unfortunately inseams are not provided to us by Rip Curl if you are looking for that specific measurement you would need to get in touch with Rip Curl at: (714)422-3617. They base their sizing off of this size chart if you were looking to see which size would fit: http://www.scuba.com/resources/sizechart/viewSizeChart.asp?pg=ripcurlmenxs_2xl.html

  • miguel:

will this short add buoyancy will swimming or snorkling

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello, all neoprene has buoyancy but these shorts are very thin and I doubt that you would even notice.

  • Betty:

Will the 2mm wet suit shorts be warm enough to swim in Ocean City Md. Alantic ocean end of August, 2014. I get very cold in ocean. What zip front jacket would you suggest. Looking at a 3mm one. Thank you Betty

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

These should be suitable for those temps. There are very few choices in scuba for front zip jackets currently. For more info on these types of products please contact our instructors at info@scuba.com
