A basic reg you can use with basic care and toss after two years and save money on the skipped overhauls.You did not hear this from me ,but its true.You suck and it blows,what could be better?Just my humble opinion,you make up your own mind if you need an easier breathing reg for your basic recreational dives.If you dive in screaming currents in Antarctica,by all means spend more.Just be sure you practice basic skills like buddy breathing,communication and free ascents like your Instructor told you to do.

Bought a Mares R2 for daughter and myself as start-up personal gear. From the first time took it out for trial run in closed water was impressed with the mouthpieces fit/comfort and ease of drawing in a breath. Purge button size and location are also easy to use (daughters words).
