When things go wrong at depth, the last thing you or your buddy wants to do, in an emergency, is go from some nice primary regulator to some cheap and crappy octo you have to suck the air out of. Your regulators are your life support underwater. The extra cash is worth the extra peace of mind. Who knows, when your dive buddy sees you have an ST1 as your octo, he/she just might signal out of air just to try it out!
