Ive been diving for over 20 years. Ive gone through probably 25 masks or so and always end up going back to the H20 Alpha 2 Purge Mask. This mask fits the best and leaks the least of any mask Ive every tried. I prefer the purge version. I find the purge handy during dive classes as I am able to easily and quickly clear the mask while task loaded. After 20 years of trying, Ive given up on other masks and now exclusively dive the H20 Alpha 2 Purge. It gets my top recommendation.

Questions and Answers for H2O Alpha 2 Purge Mask:

  • Amy:

My eyeglass prescription is -4.25 in one eye and -2.25 in the other. When ordering corrective lenses for this mask, should I round down to -4, -2 or up to -4.5, -2.5? Thanks!

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Amy, in the -4.25 you would round up to a -4.5 and in the -2.25 you would round up to -2.5.

  • maud:

Can you please inform me if H2O Alpha 2 Purge Mask is good enough to dive 20m with? I need a mask with lenses for my son. Many thanks

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Good choice and will take corrective lenses.

  • donnie:

are you able to change the corrective lense your self or do you have to buy a new mask every time your prescription changes the next year

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Donnie, no you can change the lens yourself. If you take a look at this video: http://www.scuba.com/video/35/How-to-Install-Optical-Lenses-In-a-Scuba-Diving-Mask.html. That will show you how to remove the current lens and replace them with the new lens.

  • Judy:

Where is the purge valve? When it is in the nose, I had trouble clearing my ears (small nose).

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The purge is located in the nose.

  • Maud:

Bill the retail price for the Ocean Quest is double the price of the H20 Alpha. Is there not a big difference then? I sent email to request when they receive them again. Many thanks for your assistance

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The Ocean Quest has the better quality glass which is super clear. Either one should work fine.

  • Renee:

Which mask is lower volume? This H2O Alpha 2 Purge Mask or Ocean Quest Arctic Clear High Definition Purge Mask? They look similar in photos...but are they really the same? Thanks!

Aaron  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Yes, they have the same volume. These two masks are extremely similar.

  • William:

I bought this mask for my wife . But we cant seem to lock the strap in place . So it keeps loosing up when she snorkels and then gets water up her nose ? What are we doing wrong ? Is a great mask , but she keeps having this problem . Is it supposed to lock ? It looks like it does . But I cant get it to lock . Please advise !! We are in Mexico and the water is beautiful !!! I highly recommend Sin Duda in Xcalak Mexico !!! Bill Kipp

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Bill, yes the strap should not come loose like that. If you can take it to the local dive shop and they can help you adjust the strap. There should be to plastic clips on each side and that will hold the strap in place so it does not come loose.
