This is a nice mask for the price. good field of vision like so many other masks, but this one has the added bonus of having a soft strap so your hair does not get pulled by it. If you have long hair this mask is a good choice.

Rating: Great mask!
Reviewer: mike m.
I use this mask to swim with in a 10 lane olympic pool here in my home town. I did not want to swim laps (for exercise)and have to turn and raise my head out of the water. I got this mask and paired it with an Oceanic snorkel. This thing is great it offers good visibility and the wide band makes easy to take on and off. I have been in the pool now for about two months and dont have any complaints. I make sure to clean in fresh water after each use in the locker room and dry it off. The pool is heavily chlorinated as you can imagine, dont know if this is necessary but I do it just the same. One added benefit of the feild of view this mask offers is that if you dont know how to swim faster just do like I have done, watch others underwater. The guys with the speedo caps and goggles on are faster so I watched how they use their arms and legs to move them through the water! Not much faster yet but more efficient. Mike Metzdorf

Rating: Ion 4 Mask A Good Value

I dove this mask for the first time on a recent trip to the Cayman Islands. There is good visibility with the mask ans the slap strap makes for easy on and off. The adjustment retainers are a little tough to work with at first but overall a very nice mask.

I purchased this mask for recreational Snorkeling. I would not us it for diving without first changing the strap. The strap tends to loosin.

I was a little hesitent to order a mask without trying it on. This mask sounded like it fit a large range of faces so I gave it a try. Perfect fit, very comfortable and good peripheral vision.

Questions and Answers for Oceanic Ion 4 Mask:

  • Kolea:

Im comparing the quality of Mantis and Oceanic Ion for snorkel mask w/prescription lenses. What can you say to convince me of ones comparative value?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

There isn't a great deal I can say about either as I we do not carry the prescription lenses for either mask. Over all quality wise, both are very good quality masks.

Water is more dense than air, which makes objects look blurry. A mask provides an air spae in front of the eyes to eliminate distorted vision.

Prior to using the mask for the first time, thoroughly clean both sides of the lens with a nonabrasive liquid detergent, or toothpaste, to remove any residue, then rinse with fresh water.

To prevent fogging during use, rub a 'no fog' solution, or saliva, on the inner surface of the lense while it is still dry, then rinse with water.

Adjust the strap so that it holds the mask comfortably and firmly in position on your face without being too tight or restrictive.

Place the mask on your face and pull the strap over the top of your head.

To clear water that enters the mask, stand up or come to the surface and lift the bottom of the mask away from your face to allow the water to drain out. While underwater, tilt yourhead back and exhale gently into the mask while pressing the top portion with your fingers. Water will be forced out the bottom edge.

To eliminate mask squeeze caused by the higher pressures that are experienced when diving deeper than a few feet, exhale slowly into the mask through your nose as you dive deeper. To equalize pressure in your ears, pinch your nose closed with your thumb and finger and blow gently while holding your mouth closed.

Care and Maintenance

At the end of each day of use, rinse your mask thoroughly in fresh water and towel dry. Do not allow the clear silicone skirt or strap to come in contact with items that are black rubber. This will cause the clear silicone to become discolored. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or excessive heat.
Ensure that the mask is completely dry before storing. Store in a cool, dry location.
