Rating: Great idea, but poorly executed...
Reviewer: David Kane, Tuesday, September 12, 2006
I first saw this type of "recoil" LED flashlight when a friend had one from his work place. I loved it and had to have one. Since then, they came out with smaller versions that ran on AA batteries (like this one) instead of C (like my friends). Got mine and everything was good to go until a month or so after ordering. Seems the way they designed the battery tray deal, it can shift in the light and cause the contacts to no longer make a circuit, effectively cutting off the light. So depending on how you hold it, you might have to shake it to get even a strobe effect of useful light. All seems to be the fault of the contact/switch design at the top of the battery tray and bottom of the recoil setup. Tolerances are too loose, but are required to be very high for it to work... if its slightly out, lights out!

I used the light looking for fossil sharke teeth in the Cooper River in SC. Performance was quite good unfortunately I lost the light due to the very strong current.
