Great overall BC, well constructed and easy to wear. The weight system allows ease of release and all straps and adjustments are well appointed. Just got back from Caymans and used for over 15+ dives and performed well on all.

Rating: Great Crossover BCD

The last BCD I owned was the Oceanic Excursion, which I loved. It was rock solid and had everything you could want in a BCD. Unfortunately, the airline lost that one and for my replacement I wanted something similarly functional but lighter. I do most of my diving in the Caribbean and wanted to shave a couple pounds off my luggage weight. According to what I read online, the 5 Oceans was the perfect fit for my needs. It is indeed light and functional. My only complaint is that there is no cummerbund. There is only a buckle around the waist and even when I tighten the buckle straps as far as they will go, I still cant get a snug fit. Im slender at 61" 170lbs, but Im not a rail by any means. I guess that missing cummerbund is how they chopped off all that weight. That and a second air dump on the shoulder and no pockets. Overall, really happy with the BCD. I would recommend to a friend.

Rating: good fit in smaller BC

This BC is lighter weight and smaller in size than my old one, but worked fine. I believe it is easier to put on than most and allowed me to get buoyant easier because the inflated air all goes to your back. I did have some problems floating on ascent initially, since all the air is in the back and this tends to push you forward, but I got used to this difference and adjusted for it without problems.

Traveling 20 miles to a local dive site or packed away for the trip of a lifetime, the 5 Oceans performs phenomenally in all conditions.
Anywhere, Any Time.
The 5 Oceans Back Inflation BCD is prepared for any adventure - its lightweight—weighing 7.5 lbs (3.4 kg) and packs flat for travel to the tropics and, at the same time, supplies plenty of lift, integrated weight capacity and range of adjustment to be worn in cold water over thick wetsuits or dry suits.
The 5 Oceans air cell uses a combination of BioFlex material and bungee cords to maintain the streamline profile, yet allows for 40 lbs (18 kg) of lift. Your equipment should enhance, not hinder the joy and exhilaration of diving. Nowhere is this more important than with BC's, where comfort and freedom of movement must be balanced against function and durability. Responding to this challenge led AERIS design engineers to create BioFlex - a unique 'living fabric' that stretches, flexes and conforms to the body. BioFlex is an extraordinary fabric, which stretches, fully inflated up to 30% over conventional nylon or polyurethane BC materials, the idea being that if a material could stretch while remaining airtight, you could make smaller air cells, creating less bulk and drag underwater while achieving high volumes of lift when required.
Durable fadeless 1,000 Denier Cordura construction. Exterior abrasion points of the 5 Oceans are covered with this new 'Fadeless' material- tough stuff that will hold up to years of extreme diving and keep that 'new look' longer. Aeris Quick Lock & Release (QLR) Integrated Weight System that can accommodate up to 20 lbs (9 kg) is standard equipment on the 5 Oceans along with 10 lbs (4 .5 kg) in rear trim pockets. Your weights stay in position throughout the dive and do not shift around affecting buoyancy or position in the water. The weight pouches are simple to load and easy to release, best of all, the patented 'positive-lock' system helps to ensure that they'll stay put.

Exterior abrasion points of select BCs are covered in our 'Fadeless' Cordura® - tough stuff that will hold up to years of extreme diving and keep that 'new look' longer. Most external panels benefit from the toughness of Cordura®, a high-performance, super-durable fabric that is perfect for the demands divers place on their equipment. It's resistant to abrasions, tears, and scuffs--all the qualities you expect from a high performance fabric.
QLR (Quick Lock & Release) Weight Integration System
The Patented QLR Quick Lock & Release System is standard on many of the BCs. Your weights stay in position throughout the dive and do not shift around affecting buoyancy or position in the water. The weight pouches are simple to load and easy to release. Best of all, our patented 'positive-lock' system helps to ensure that they'll stay put.
