I used this Hat for a high performance sailboat Regatta near Santa Cruz in the open Ocean.(5o5 North Americans) It gets very cold in-between races. The scuba hat worked perfectly. The shivers stopped as soon as I put it on. The only minor issue is it restricts hearing a bit. I may try to cut in some ear holes like a Hockey helmet.

i bought ocean quest beanies for my husband and myself. they work greatkeep us a little warmer, keep hair out of the way, and provide welcome sun protection on snorkel days. they actually make it easier to position your mask strap since it doesnt get bunched up in your hair. plus they are very comfortable, you hardly know its on. very nice product!

I ordered this hood for my open water dives for my certification. I ordered a medium and it was a perfect fit. Only problem was I didnt need it as the water was too warm for it. But, Ill have it when I need it.

This works good but the chin strap is way too long for me, so I flip it inside out so the excess strap stays tucked away. My friend got one too and it fits her fine. Getting a smaller size doesnt make much of a difference with the chin strap.

Overall, a great value in a beanie. It really helps the heat retention, and most importantly, keeps my bald head covered...especially if Im just snorkeling (Yahoo, no sunburned head!) When diving, it works great...stays in place and does not interfere with my mask at all. I recommend it highly!!

I still havent found what Im looking for: a beanie to contain my hair and help me stay warm without making me feel claustrophobic. This was better than others Ive tried because it is stretchy but the strap was too wide for my comfort.

I have a very large, almost Frankenstein-like head. Every beanie Ive ever tried reminds me of a medieval torture device when worn due to how tight it is. This beanie, perhaps due to being only 2 mils, fits great. Minimal air-pocketing that always seems to plague beanies and hoods. Nice stretch and comfortable.

The dive beanie mad such a difference in my diving in Palau. I had been having troubles with my hair getting into my face while taking pictures. On this trip last week it took care of my hair and I was able to take my underwater pictures with no problem.

i bought this beanie for a january trip to cozumel where a little extra warmth can be nice just in case the sun isnt blazing between dives. as it turned out i wore it for all dives (in addition to my 3 mm suit) because... i just like to be warm. a few times on the trip back to the dock i fastened the side flaps up and continued to wear it like...a beanie. being from northern michigan (land of the dry suit) i really appreciate efficient ways to keep warm and comfortable in and out of the water and if you try to tough your way through getting cold you will lose. and we all know how much heat is lost from the head, right? so buy this beanie and stick in in your bag. btw, its comfy and well made.

Rating: 2 mill beanies are cool!
Reviewer: Martin O.  -  View all my reviews
If you are looking for an easy don, easy doff, super stretchy, comfortable, lightweight hood with a cozy chin strap, look no further. At 2 mills you barely know youre wearing it and my daughter & I found them warm & suitable even under 60 degree water for an hour dive. Sweet hat, I even use it for dinghy sailing in the winter because the chin strap keeps it on my head when I have to duck the boom on tacks when a sock cap always gets bumped or rubbed off. Stylish too if you like the Telly Savalas look...

Questions and Answers for Ocean Quest 2mm Premium Super-Stretch Titanium Dive Beanie:

  • Mary:

want to order the titanium dive beanie. does it have adjustable chin strap? Others have choked me, What size should I order. I am 200 lbs and 511" with chubby cheeks. thanks, Mary

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Mary, yes it has a velcro chin strap for adjustments. As for the size going by your sizing I would put you into a size XLarge. If you have any other questions or would like to place an order please feel free to give us a call at 1.800.347.2822.

  • ALBERTO:

Is there any product, appart from ear plugs, to keep my ears dry while I swimm?

Greg  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Ear plugs are great for keeping your ears dry while swimming, but do not use them for SCUBA diving.

  • ALBERTO:

I need to keep my ears dry all the way I swim. Does any of the hoods advertized does this?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

No. Hoods for scuba and snorkeling are designed with thermal properties in mind to keep the user warm and not to keep them dry. They work by allowing a layer of water inside. The head/body heats the water and the material insulates it to retain the heat.

  • ali:

I am looking for protection from water entering my ears while swimming in an indoor pool. Earplugs do not work well and fall out easily. Will the Ocean Quest 2mm Premium Super-Stretch Titanium Dive Beanie hood work well for swimming pool lengths, say 20 at a time, without one feeling too constricted? I am 5 ft 6 ins and 130 lbs and wear prescription goggles(designed for squash)or can omit the goggles for exercising in the pool. You can call me at 604-516-9098 Canada or give me a telephone number i can call from Canada. Thanks.Ali.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Unfortunately this type of product is a wet suit cap, which means it keeps the user warm by letting a thin layer of water inside. The body (in this case the head) heats the water and the neorprene material insulates it. You will get wet and water will enter your ears.

  • Sara:

I am interested in ordering the Oceanquest Beanie and dont know whatsize to get. I am female and have lots of hair to manage. I would guess that my head size is average but I noticed when reading the reviews people commented that these beanies run large. Any advice?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

I wear a medium sized beanie from most all manufacturers, including the Ocean Quest. I don't find it to be sized terribly different than any other manufacturer. Unfortunately hoods and beaniers are one of the few items we rely on the consumer to have an idea what size they may be as the sizing charts are more of a guideline based on body size and not all that accurate as one's head rarely has anything to do with one's body size.

  • frank:

Looking at Ocean Quest 2mm Beanie. Head size is 25 in circumference and another 22.5 in circumference. Suggested sizing?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Frank, going by the size you would be a size medium.

  • Cruiser:

Hi, am interested in the ocean quest beanie but not sure what size to order. My head circumference measurement is 22.5". What size should I order? Many thanks.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Unfortunately hoods and beanies are one of the few products we wind up relying on the customer for fit. The sizing charts given us by the manufacturers are VERY general and really have no real relation to head sizing. And none of them give us hat size info nor head circumference info to go by.

  • Jennifer:

My husband just purchased this beanie for me (size small). My head circumference is 21 3/4". It fits "snug," i.e. no gaps around the face, etc. When dry, the chin strap hits at the end, i.e. lots more velcro to use if it stretches, but also a little worried if it doesnt stretch when wet that it might come undone underwater. Any recommendations? Should I try a Medium or stick wih the Small as it will stretch when wet / over time?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Jennifer, since the hood is made of a super-stretch material the size you have is the correct size.

  • Louis:

Im a lap swimmer, swimming long distance listening to radio (I use a Uwater7 Radio with Ex-1 waterproof earphones) and Im looking for a beanie with a chin strap to swim laps not for the warmth but for holding my ear buds , wires and radio from being pulled off, silicone caps are too constrictive, tend to come off the ears and I hate the feeling because it retain an air bubble , lycra caps have no chin strap and get saggy after some time uncovering also the ear buds ... its hell (sort of) would this one be a good solution ? do you have people that have used it for this purpose and do you have a thinner model (still with a strap)

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello, this beanie would be an excellent solution. You will still get a slight air bubble but it won''t trap it like the latex caps do.

  • Hamid:

I swim in Caribbean (warm water) and need to keep my ears dry. Which swimming cap do you recommend? I am a male, 57", 170 lbs with shaved head.

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

No hood will keep your ears dry.

The perfect choice for helping keep the chill off in warm water diving and snorkeling conditions.  Made from comfortable, 4-way stretch neoprene the 2mm Premium Super Stretch Beanie is designed to be worn by itself in warmer water by divers who don't want the restriction of a fully bibbed hood but still may want slow the loss of heat through their head during a dive.  It can also be worn underneath your cold water diving hood for a bit of added insulation in very cold conditions.
