Rating: Akona Roller Backpack
Reviewer: Jody S., Sunday, September 09, 2007
i read all the reviews on scuba.com and in all the magazines i could find before making this purchase. they were all helpful.
this bag has just about everything
lots of space the pockets are spacious and well placed. im not sure why there is the bottle and pocket on the front i agree we should all stay hydrated, but i think removing the bottle and enlarging the existing pocket is more practical.
i went to key largo from ca for a week of diving more than enough room for everything. one review i read said to watch out for all the space in being tempted to fill it, you could be in serious jeopardy of exceeding airline weight limits i found this to be true also.
the wheels are my only area of concern, bordering on complaint when the bag arrives brand new, the wheels roll so very smoothly. the first time the bag is ped carelessly by a taxi driver or baggage handler, however, things change dramatically. the wheels tweak in and rub against the housing, even rubbing away the plastic/rubber they are made of. its nearly impossible to get them straightened and we could find no way to access the wheels other than straight on from the outside. this means that all through the airports, train stations, hotels and dive boats, the wheels rubbed, the bag did not pull smoothly, and the edge of the wheel continues to be rubbed away.
what a shame to not be able to use such a fabulous product after such a short time.

Rating: Backpak for large dive equipment
Reviewer: Eric Clark, Friday, October 27, 2006
This bag has room for a full set of dive equipment for the larger individual. Im 63" and this bag will hold my Seaquest Pro QD BC which doesnt pack very well as well as a full 3mm and a 2.5mm shorty along with a 6"x5"x3" dry box, wide assortment of lights, boots, gloves, and weights. I loaded this bag up with everything I had including 20 lbs. of weight and tried the sholder straps, all the weight was evnly distributed along the wide sholder straps and very little pressure was left on the small of the back most was right below the sholder blades. The wheels are awesome, these wheels arent like most bags. They are large enough where the only thing I can think of that would bind them up would be a good size piece or rock wedged in just right. The pull handle stores nicley with a concealed zipper pouch to keep it from snagging on everything while storing on a packed dive boat. A little awkward moving up and down boat ladders but is manageable.
The requlator bag would probably be a little small for a full reg assembly with guage consol and octo would be a stretch to get in the supplied reg bag but possible. A reg assembly with a BC integrated Alternate and quick disconnect dive computer fit great. All in all great bag, lots of room, and seperate storage compartments for everything. Highly recomened!!!

Rating: Overall Good Buy
Reviewer: Peter M., Monday, March 19, 2007 - View all my reviews
i used this bag on a march 2007 trip to jamaica. i was able to pack the following: 2 sets of fins (1 set in the fin pockets and 1 set in the bottom of the main compartment), 2 bcs, 2 shorty wetsuits, 2 skins, 2 sets dive boots, 2 dive masks. one regulator and computer in the regulator bag included with this bag carried as hand luggage on the plane the other regulator was carried in a separate reg bag. the main bag was also carried aboard the dive boat on a couple of occasions to facilitate carrying all of the gear. it fit easily under the seat. it did have a tendancy to tip over when fully loaded. weight-wise, i expect that i was close to 50 poinds, but as the flight was a charter, weight was not closely watched. the included security sleeve is a bit hard to get on a fully loaded bag, and it is not easy to roll the bag sometimes with the sleeve in place as the sleeve could get caught in the wheels. i did not use the shoulder straps. i would give the bag 5 stars except for its tendancy to tip over when fully loaded.

Rating: Durable and roomy
Reviewer: Jeff M., Friday, September 28, 2007
I bought this bag to be used on a trip to Roatan, Honduras. It easily fit all of my (XL) and my wifes (S) gear (BCs, fins, masks, snorkels, computers, lights, slates). With all of that in, the weight was 48 pounds.
The bag that comes with it to protect did protect it for this trip, but it got torn so it wont be much good for future trips. Having that bag around it also made it very difficult to maneuver, as the only handle that remains exposed is the one on top.
The large wheels (which are exposed when the bag is on it) were great, and made it very easy to roll over carpet, along docks, and even on tightly packed sand.
Highly recommend the bag - it withstood multiple plane rides and baggage handlers going to and from Honduras, and even a helicopter ride when we were evacuated due to hurricane Felix!

Rating: Good product, but too large for me
Reviewer: Pamela Reynolds, Friday, October 27, 2006
For the price this roller backpack is a pretty good deal, but it wasnt exactly what I expected. First, its fairly big (carefully check out the dimensions before you buy!). Id hoped to use it when traveling on dive trips, and I still intend to, but its a bit too large to fit easily in the trunk of my car. On the other hand, I like the fact that it is large enough to not only hold my cold water gear, but also extra clothes and items for a weekend dive trip. I doubt Ill ever be able to wear it as a backpack as it is very large and heavy. The wheels are fairly good and do okay on mildly rough terrain (i.e., gravel and dirt). It seems well constructed and durable, but I have only taken it on a half dozen dive trips so far.

Rating: Great bag, Lots of room for all my gear
Reviewer: Scott Michael, Monday, December 01, 2008 - View all my reviews
Fin pockets, Large outside pockets, easy to move. Not exactly sure why they put a water bottle on the outside of the bag as I think Id rather have a bigger zippered pocket, but that just nit-picking. Room for my gear and my wifes wetsuit and snorkeling equipment.
The fact that you can completely tuck the backpack straps away to prevent the baggage handlers from ripping them off is great.
The bag is BIG and it is easy to go over the airlines weight limit if youre not a careful packer especially with cold weather gear. That not a fault of the the bag but of the the airlines. Still you need to be aware of the fact that you you may be hit with extra fees these days, especially with a big bag like this.

Rating: A Load off our Minds
Reviewer: Patrice Eaton, Wednesday, December 20, 2006
We purchased the Roller BackPack for our daughter who was going to Okinawa, Japan for a 10-day December dive trip. Extra clothing and scuba gear needed to be packed to handle the cooler temperatures. I am happy to say everything fit into one bag. The additional compartments, padding, and heavy duty zippers kept her scuba gear safe and secure. The Roller BackPack also comes with a protective covering to keep it safe from the elements when on dive boats or at dive sites. The bag contains durable straps to allow it to be used as a backpack for those times when the bag cannot be rolled and needs to be carried.

Rating: Sturdy Bag
Reviewer: Ray Tsuyuki, Wednesday, November 29, 2006 - View all my reviews
This is the second time I am buying this bag because I have found it to be a sturdy, reliable performer. The bag is ample for all your gear when traveling and meets all requirements for flying. Everything has been thought out well and the bag is designed well. The only problem (and this is a big one) is that if exposed to salt water regularly, the wheel bearings and the handles screws will rust out. However, if you are using it to transport gear from home to hotel, it is a fantastic bag.

This product isnt technically a backpack but it is a great gear bag. The description said you could fit two sets of gear but I was only able to put my gear (and a bit extra) for a trip to Cozumel. The many pockets make organization easy. The bag rolls nicely. It held up quite well while another bag ripped. Its probably a bit too big and bulky to take on a boat but works well for getting your gear on the plane. Id certainly recommend this bag.

This back has everything I need in an equipment bag for travel and more. Its durable and has space for two persons gear with room to spare. Zippers are built so as to accomodate travel padlocks. Telescoping handle works well. There are multiple handles and straps in different positions so you can grab the bag in different ways, which comes in handy when placing bag on airport shuttle racks or grabbing it in a hurry of a crowded baggage claim.

We received our roller bag and found was as billed. It has large main compartment, acompartment for a reg bag which comes included. It is a very nicely padded reg bag. The wheel are heavy duty. We had only a slight problem with the zippers not moving smoothly, but we resolved that with dry suit zipper wax. If your into traveling and want to protect your gear this bag is perfect. The price is right!!! Thanks

This bag can truly fit 2 sets of COOL water gear... or all of your TECH gear. I dive a Zeagle Tech w a 65lb bladder, which is not the easiest to pack. This bag fits it, my wet or drysuit, 2 sets of fins, 4 masks, and a ton of clothes, and it does so easily. The wheels are bombproof, easily handling sandy/rocky airports & out of the way dive locations. Plus all the goodies? Its a GREAT buy.

Everthing fit great.2 wet suits, Bcd.Booties, Fins ,Dive log , Review Manuals, mask, etc. everthing I needed.I like the personal case for my dive computer. With all that its weigh was only 43 pounds. I was worried it might have been overweight.Too big to be a backpack . Great extendable handle, smooth roll.

This bag will definitely hold all your stuff. We used it for a trip to Fiji recently, bringing two sets of equipment, including shorties. My major complaint about the bag is that it doesnt stay upright when loaded. Instead, it falls forward. Not a problem if youre on the move and pulling it behind you, but a pain in the neck at check-in counters, etc.

I have used this bag on three trips thusfar with great success. It holds two complete sets of gear. If you travel with your gear this is a must have. There are embedded should straps thathave also been very handy.
Complaints? None
I do wonder why Akona attaches a small water bottle on the outside. Regardless, its rugged, well designed and fun to pack.

We recently took a trip to St. Lucia and packed both sets of our dive gear in this backpack. It held it all, no problem with room to spare. It was also very durable which suprised me considering all the weight it held. Im very happy with this item and recommend it for people who want to combine two sets of gear into one bag. Great way to travel!

Good bag, but a bit heavy so weight is an issue when flying (only negative). Holds lots of items, I like having the fins on the outside to help protect the contents. Rolls easily, even over hard-packed sand. Shoulder straps came in handy when had to carry it over soft sand. I bought a second one for my wife, and recommended it to a friend as well.

I recomend this bag to anyone wanting to travel, and take alkl of their gear minus wieghts and tank. Also the bag was a lot cheeper @ www.scuba.com about $40.00 cheeper than a LDS.
