Im buying for a guy 64 and 180 lbs. Would a large be ok?
The most important measurements any time you purchase a wetsuit or drysuit using the manufacturer's sizing charts will always be your waist and chest/bust measurements. The suit needs to fit your torso correctly in order to do its job properly. Keep in mind there is no such thing as a comfortable wetsuit on the surface. You want it to be snug, but not cut off circulation to your extremities. The more snug it is, the thinner the layer of water your body is heating. If its too loose you will remain warm for awhile, but eventually your body won't be able to keep up with the greater amount of water flowing through the suit and you'll wind up getting cold faster. After that your height is a secondary measurement. The manufacturers realize that generally speaking your boots and gloves can overlap slightly short arms and legs, or the diver can push or roll up longer sleeves and/or arms if need be. Weight is a measurement the diver can usually ignore. It really has little to no bearing what so ever on the sizing and fit of your suit. The manufacturers do not take into account muscle being more dense than fat, so based simply on fitness levels 2 people can be the exact same size but quite different in weight. This measurement should only be used if the person is literally on the fence between 2 sizes in all categories.
sizing question - since this is super stretchy - should I order one size smaller, as not to be loose. I fall between XL & 2XL. thanks
Weight wise im a Large but Height wise im a Med Large. Im 59" and 187lbs. should i go with the Med Large? I understand because they stretch to maybe go down if you are in the middle, but I want to make sure before I order so I do not make a mistake. I am also hesitant about the Large because im not 511"+ and dont want it too long on me. THANK you in advance!
Hello Phil, when you are sizing a wet suit or dive skin. The two most important measurements are your chest and waist. Height is a secondary measurements and weight is this last measurement. When it comes to the super-stretch material, if you are in-between sizes you can go with the smaller size and because of the superstretch material. It will contour around your body better that give you a better fit.
Ok, I ordered, received my items today. My follow up question is: How Snug should they be. I was between ordering the Med-Lrg and the Lrg..I went with the Lrg and it is snug but i do not know how snug is good. I have to try it on again to be sure how it feels but would like to know before I decide it is ok or to go up a size. THANK YOU
Hello Phil, the suit should be snug but not uncomfortable. The way the wetsuit work is to trap a thin layer of water between your body and the suit. Over time your body heat will warm that water up and the inside of the suit will reflect that heat back to your body. If the suit is baggie then you will have water flowing in and out the suit and your body will not have a chance to warm that water up. So it sound like you have the correct size.
