Questions and Answers for JBL Elite Woody 38-Special.:

  • Matt:

This gun good for open water or more for reef fish?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

This is more of a gun for around the reef or tighter confines. It's not large or powerful enough for open water shooting.

  • Tam:

Do you carry 6W38ET(Teak wood)? Price? Do you deliver to Canada? Thanks

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Tam, the JBL Elite series gun are made of the African Mahogany wood. Yes we also ship to Canada.

  • Jay:

Can I add a 3rd band too my 38 special woody elite? its 42" from tip to butt.

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The number of slots on the shaft determine the number of bands.

  • mike:

I am going to Costa Rica and will be doing some shore diving. Will this be the right gun?? I need fly it down with me, so any recommendations on how that is best done?

Aaron  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hi Mike, JBL Elite Woody 38-Special would be a great gun to use. Its a good balance between a short and long gun.

  • Mike:

Do you like the woody better that the lightning series from JBL. What are the differences in power between these two options?

Aaron  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The woody series are fast, quiet, affordable and accurate. Lightning series is beefed up spear gun. Thicker gauge barrel. These guns are all about speed.

  • mike:

One more question. How do you pack the Woody 38 special, and how is its speed. It is multi band is it not? What else should I buy ( extra bands, etc )? How about a bag for fish I harvest?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Mike, the total length is 42 inches so you would need to get a bag for this gun if it does not fit in your checked luggage. As for how fast the shaft travels you would need to contact the manufacture of that spec. This gun has 2 bands. Then yes you would need some type of stringer to put your fish on or a game bag for the fish.

  • Mike:

What should I buy? The lightning or the woody 38 special? Aaron, what is better to travel with and what is faster. If you had one to bring which would it be.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Mike, for travel and ease I would suggest the woody 38. It made of wood so if it gets away from you will float to the surface where as the Lightning is made of metal and will sink.

  • Charlie:

How does this compare to a AB Biller Brand? Specifically my AB 32 Special Mahogany? Also, how much more power would I gain going from 32 to 38 - is there a spec that quantifies this?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Charlie, since the gun you are looking to up-grade to is a larger gun in both the shaft length and overall length so you will be able shoot bigger fish and whit the way the gun is designed over your current gun the shaft with the shake fins will help make it a more accurate gun and quieter gun when you shoot it. So you will be able to shoot bigger fish from farther away with better accuracy.

  • hee:

Whats the difference of woody 38 spearguns -6w38e or 6w38 ??? Two things picture is same in this site. And one more Q. How much is the tax of the gun?? Can i receive the benefit of FTA=free tax?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Hee, the elite version is made out of a different type of wood. Made with beautiful mahogany that is more silent when firing

  • Scott:

Just got one for my birthday. I live in North County San Diego. Im excited but dont know anything about freediving/spearfishing. Any tips on how/where to get started?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Scott, fist this you would need to do is when you do go spear fishing you have your fishing lic. You can also check out some of the local free diving clubs that are around your area.

  • Doug:

What is the difference between the JBL Elite woody 38 Special (6W38E) and the JBL 38 Special Magnum (6W38)? And would you recommend one over the other? Thanks very much.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Doug, if you are talking about the JBL Magnum 38-Special Speargun. The gun is a metal version of the Woody 38 special. So the wood gun would float and the metal gun will sink when in the water.

  • Tam:

Hi. I understand you do not carry JBL Elite Wood 38 Special model# 6W38ET ( not Mahogany, make from Teak wood) as seen on JBL website, I was wondering if you can order for me, if so how much? I noted your prices are cheaper . Thanks. Tam
