Hello Zamanian, if the bolet is the same as the shaft length, then you are looking at 20.5 inches. Also the safety on the gun is just like any other gun it does have a safety on the gun which will not let it fire. But the safety of the gun is always the users. Im curious about the mares 58 speargun. Is it powerful? I do a lot of spearfishing in the northeast, sometimes in poor vis. I need a powerful gun that can penetrate a triggerfish, stripped bass, flounder, tautoug, ect, but one thats also light and nimble. I find that with my 90 cm band gun I have adequate power but slower reaction time in the low vis. Thanks for your help.

Hello Steve, I would not shot anything over say 35lbs. But will have enough power to take them down. Once you start getting into the bigger fish.
