Rating: Neutrally buoyant tanks
Reviewer: David F. Wyckoff  -  View all my reviews
I love these tanks, no longer do you have to add three or four pounds to your weight belt in anticipation of the end of the dive. Many older divers I have talked to are set in their ways and think that this is only a gimmick to sell tanks, its not a gimmick try one for yourself, highly recommended.

Questions and Answers for Sherwood 80 Cubic Foot Aluminum Compact Neutral Tank:

  • russel:

which valve is this tank equipped with.

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello, these tanks come with the "Sherwood K-Valve 3/4´´-14 NPSM 3300 psi" valves.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

It will come with a standard K valve

  • Brandon:

Im relatively new to diving and finishing my advanced in the next few days but not very knowledgeable with tanks. With this being rated at 3300 PSI will that be harder to fill at regular scuba shops? Also what is different about this tank than a regular 80 that makes it neutrally buoyant? Im not sure if the "real weight" of the tank makes a difference but this one says it weighs less than a regular AL80?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Brandon, the two tanks are made out of different material so the compact will be a shorter, lighter tank in real weight. But the material makes it a heavy tank when in the water so you can carry less weight on your weight belt of BC you are wearing.

  • Monique:

I was wondering if this is a 8 or 10 liter bottle and if it is nitrox ready. thanks, Monique

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

80 cubic ft. cylinders equate to 10l cylinders.

  • JOSEPH:

Are these tanks made from 6061-T6 alloy - which never requires an eddy-current inspection ?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

That is the material they are made from.

  • Austin:

Do they come filled if so will this be good tank to fill hpa tanks for and how many will it fill

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

It is against DOT and CTC regulations for new cylinders to be shipped with the valve in place, and as such will not be filled on arrival to you.

  • Lacy:

I purchased the sherwood compact 80 tank with the sherwood convertible pro valve. To install the valve, should I lubricate the threads? with dialectric or silicone grease? What about the O-ring? How many ft/lbs should I tighten? Thanks!

Chance  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Lubricate the o-ring with silicone grease and 35 ft. lbs for torque.
