Hi, am looking to replace my Mares Power Plana fins (recently lost one during a trip). I am an instructor (as well as technical and wreck diving) and need something with some power and speed (to track down runaway students, ha) as well as control. The Power Plana were very light weight, but still. Have been using Jetfins, but would rather have something lighter for travel. Would you suggest the Quattro Excel Plus? Or do you have other suggestions?
ok Darrick, thanks for the info but you say that the excel plus will be a better performance fin, however ive been to other sites and others have said that the quattro is definitely the better performing fin, more thrust etc. basically i figured with the new tri material and the optimal pivoting fin it was a sure lock for favorite, but these other sites suggests otherwise even with older tech i need some help bro. can you shed some light on your experience with these?
Hello Chris, if you are looking for a fin you can use both for scuba diving and snorkeling. The fin I would suggest for you is the: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-20/012288/ScubaPro-Twin-Jet-Max-Adjustable-Spring-Strap-Split-Fins.html. This is a split fin: it will give you better performance, mobility, with less effort. So in diver terms this will give you 20%-40% better air consumption. That is the fin I would suggest for you.
i have boiled down my choice between the mares avanti quattro plus and the excel plus, in your view which is the better fins to purchase? you can include pros and cons!! Thanks
Hello Christian, the Excel plus (21")is going to be a better performance fin. It will channel the water threw the fin easier to give you better power and performance than the Quattro plus (19") version. But if you are looking to use these for travel the Quattro plus is going to be a lighter and shorter (by 2") than the Excel plus fins. How do these fins stack up against the more exotic looking Volo and X-Stream fins from Mares? Ive tried the Volo, which are very quick fins. Would I get better speed kick for kick with these solid paddle fins? I believe these incorporate that OPB feature as well. Appreciate any insights you may have.
I am very interested in this fins. Is there a red one? I really wanna get a red fin (cause my mask has orange colored frame) I wear Mares boots(5mm) size 7, then what size should I choose? My husband also want to get this fin(silver color) and he wears Mares boots(3mm) size 6, then what size would be good for him?
Hello Minyoung, these fins do not have the red color option. If you are looking for a Mares fins that does come in red: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-20/012225/Mares-X-Stream-Adjustable-Strap-Fins.html.

Colors: yl, bl, bk, wh, lm, fl
Sizes: S · R · XL
Blade: Cm 38
Weight: Kg 0.90
Material: Thermoplastic rubber/ Tecralene®
Channel Thrust: Soft longitudinal inserts allow a controlled deformation of the fin blade while kicking. This channel shape moves a greater amount of water resulting in more thrust for the same effort. Mares design is inspired by marine mammals.
Open Heel Foot Pockets: The open heel foot pocket is designed to accommodate dive boots with a sole, and to offer excellent adherence between the boot and the foot pocket in order to transfer all the force exerted by the leg to the blade, without sacrificing yield yet still ensuring superior comfort.
The lower section of the foot pocket is longer, in order to better transfer power to the blade and minimize the risk of cramping. In addition, the inside of the foot-pocket features internal ribbing to improve fit and stiffen the sole.
