These fins are amongst the best I have used. They are easy to put on and take off. I especially like the quick release it allows for easy exit in the water even with gloves on

These are great fins if you have solid boots. I would say buy a little small but i wear 11.5 and got the largest and they work well

Questions and Answers for Mares Quattro Excel Plus Adjustable Strap Fins:

  • Ned:

Hi, am looking to replace my Mares Power Plana fins (recently lost one during a trip). I am an instructor (as well as technical and wreck diving) and need something with some power and speed (to track down runaway students, ha) as well as control. The Power Plana were very light weight, but still. Have been using Jetfins, but would rather have something lighter for travel. Would you suggest the Quattro Excel Plus? Or do you have other suggestions?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

These would be a good replacement for the Power Planas.

  • Jonathan:

hi-i am shoe size 27.5cm, if i am going to wear boots into these fins, what size should i opt for please? thanks

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

You need to order the M/L men's 9-11

  • chris:

i wear an 11 sized shoe. if im planning on wearing a tropical boot with them what size should I opt for 9-11 or 11-13? thanks, c

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

With a 3mm boot order the smaller size.

  • Juan:

Hi, 1) Which are stiffer? Mares Excel plus or Quattro Avanti Plus? 2) Are the above faster than the XS turtle? Thanks in advance?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Mares Excel Plus would be the best choice. The turtle fin is wider and heavier.

  • Jack:

Im would like to use a 7mm boot size 9 (Henderson) in these fins, do I go for a 9-11 or 11-13 fin?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

size 9 boot will go to a size 9 fin. the 9-11.

  • jack:

    Sorry, I meant should I take a 6-9 or 9-11?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Jack, if you where a size 9 then I would suggest going with the bigger size the 9-11 over the 6-9 size.

  • Minyoung:

I am very interested in this fins. Is there a red one? I really wanna get a red fin (cause my mask has orange colored frame) I wear Mares boots(5mm) size 7, then what size should I choose? My husband also want to get this fin(silver color) and he wears Mares boots(3mm) size 6, then what size would be good for him?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Minyoung, these fins do not have the red color option. If you are looking for a Mares fins that does come in red: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-20/012225/Mares-X-Stream-Adjustable-Strap-Fins.html.

  • Minyoung:

    i wear a 5mm mares boots size 7. then what size should I choose? 5-7 or 7-10?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Mares fins are known to have a generous sized foot pockets. The 5-7 should fit.

Sizes: S · R · XL
Blade: Cm 38
Weight: Kg 0.90
Material: Thermoplastic rubber/ Tecralene®

Product Features

Channel Thrust: Soft longitudinal inserts allow a controlled deformation of the fin blade while kicking. This channel shape moves a greater amount of water resulting in more thrust for the same effort. Mares design is inspired by marine mammals.

Open Heel Foot Pockets: The open heel foot pocket is designed to accommodate dive boots with a sole, and to offer excellent adherence between the boot and the foot pocket in order to transfer all the force exerted by the leg to the blade, without sacrificing yield yet still ensuring superior comfort.

The lower section of the foot pocket is longer, in order to better transfer power to the blade and minimize the risk of cramping. In addition, the inside of the foot-pocket features internal ribbing to improve fit and stiffen the sole.
