Rating: Outstanding power and control, great spring strap
Reviewer: Gary Sanders  -  View all my reviews
Though I dive with multiple tanks and in a dry suit in California waters, I have been using Scubapro Twin Jet split fins for years as they are comfortable and gave fine control. But swimming upstream in a current seemed to need more power. I tried recent Atomic fins but found them to be too stiff and the spring strap buckles opened twice in kelp forests when kelp wrapped around the fasteners. This happened on two different pairs. When I saw these F1 bat fins, I tried them as they are more like traditional broader paddle fins. Result: While stiffer, they are easy to get used to and do indeed provide more power and quite good control for finning in reverse or rotating or station keeping or frog kicking. And the spring straps with the large loops as a handle make very easy donning and doffing. These look like excellent heavy duty fins. Yellow fin tips make it easier to be tracked by dive buddies in poor viz.

Rating: Excellent for specific purposes and divers
Reviewer: Jonathan Shepherd  -  View all my reviews
These are great for diving with a large amount of equipment (I dive with a CCR and two or more bailout tanks) or if you like to "frog" kick. If youre a basic recreational diver you may find these to be a bit heavy and hard on your body when compared to a light-duty or split fin. You will also want a rigid dive boot, as a regular neoprene dive boot will allow the spring to dig into the back of your heel and put too much pressure on your toes. All that said construction and quality are both excellent. A note on sizing: Im a size 13 and with a rigid dive boot or a drysuit rock boot the 2XL is the correct size for me, but I did have to adjust the springs to get a snug fit.

Rating: Fantastic fins!!
Reviewer: John Prator  -  View all my reviews
I wanted a stronger fin like we had in the Navy, these looked very similar to the old "Jet Fins" so I bought them to try out. Im glad I did, very well built and I love the spring straps that are included. Fantastic fin but make sure youre used to this stiffer type fin or they may give you some cramping until you build up to them. High quality, great power, highly recommended!

Rating: Hollis Thanks for The Great F1 Fins!
Reviewer: Darrell Long
I just wanted to say I got my Hollis F1 Fins in and they looked and felt GREAT! I am a size 9EE and I purchased a pair of F1 Adjustable Spring Strap Fins Mens 7-9 /Womens 8-10(Regular)SKU#014857. The weight is a little heavy. But I think they are worth it. The value compared to the cost is a wonderful bonus as well. "Great Job"Scuba.com and Hollis!!!! Scuba Family Darrell Long

Rating: I really like them!!
Reviewer: chris f.
I was a little nervous ordering without trying on these fins. I wear a size 12 shoe if I really like them but should and normally wear 13s. I also have a wide foot. I wear these with a 3mm Pinnacle boot and the fin is really comfortable. Better than my Tusa expert Zoom splits. I liked the Tusas and was worried that this fin might really work my legs but they are sweet. I get way more propulsion and dont really notice an increse in effort required. Im a 37 year old dude in average/good shape so if you are a dainty woman maybe not the fin for you.The springs make them that much better.

Rating: Great fins
Reviewer: Tim C.
The instant you pick these fins up you know they are well made, yes a bit on the heavy side but I was looking for a well built fin. Foot pocket is comfortable for my 11 eee feet. They slip on easily with the extra large hook loop in the back. If you push a lot of weight these fins are for you, and they are a great buy. Tim

Rating: Better than my Jet Fins and w/ spring straps
Reviewer: Scott Michael  -  View all my reviews
The fins are well made and are in my opinion work a bit better than my old ScubaPro jet fins. What really sold me was - how comfortable they are - that they come with ADJUSTABLE spring straps - the loop on the spring strap sticks up at a 45 degree angle making it easy to grab These (like Jet Fins) are heavy fins. I need a heavy fin so that is a plus for me. If your weight distribution is such that you need a lighter fin than these may not be for you.

Rating: Hollis F1 Fins
Reviewer: Steven B.  -  View all my reviews
These are very nice fins! I needed something better suited to drysuit boots and went with these as they have std. spring straps compared to others supplied as an adder. Compared to some reasonable non-splits these are a whole step up, like swimming in a different world. Oversized finger loop works well with heavy gloves and angled feature is nice to keep it out of the way. Highly recommended, they do not disappoint! I make it a point to let everybody struggling to get a their std. fin into a drysuit boot that these are great. Ease of swimming? Went for a nice surface swim to the Madeira - once with std., once with the F1. Std. fin, exhausted, F1, fantastic. Did a long surface swim to retrieve a blown away buoy with my 17 yr. old, athletic son. He was using the std. type. It wasnt a race but I easily passed him on the way out and again on the way back. These kick!

Questions and Answers for Hollis F1 ´´Bat Fin´´ Adjustable Spring Strap Fins:

  • John:

Having trouble deciding between the F1s and F2s. What are the overall dimensions of the F1s, or both if possible?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

    Hello John, F1: 8lbs weight- 24" length- 9.5" width F2: 3.8lbs weight- 19" length- 8" width

  • LRP:

Trying to decide on size for the Hollis F1 fin. I wear an XL molded in boot on my ComfortZone Dry suit. They call it a size 12-13. I currently have Sherwood Trek fins in XL. I can get them on but they are snug and hard to get off. Would you recommend XL or XXL

Greg  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Move up to the Men's size 13 - 15 (XXL) on the Hollis fins. If the fins are to snug, it will lead to cramps and be hard to get off your foot.

  • Jeffrey:

Just curious but why are the fins with the yellow tips like $31 more? Is it purely cosmetic or is there any functionality?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Jeffery, the reason they put the yellow tips on the end of the fins it to make you more visible while you are underwater. Which if you are teaching students your students can see you better when you are doing your underwater tour.

  • Jason:

First-time scuba gear shopper here buying all my gear for my next dive trip. Im deciding between these and the lighter and travel-friendly F2. On my last dives in Malaysia I needed 3kg on my weight belt but Im a "sinker" with fairly heavy legs so Im wondering how the weight of these fins will affect me underwater. Thoughts?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

They are only slightly negative if at all in the water, so you'll notice no real difference in the water.

  • Kenglin:

Hi, previously I m using a mares xstream size 9-11 with 5mm scubapro boot. If I would like replacing it with hollis F1, which size should I choose? N do I basically have a reduce weight on my weight belt?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The manufacturer says go by your normal sneaker-style shoe size for sizing. The fins will have little to no impact on your buoyancy or weighting.
