Rating: excellent product, great value

I have been diving with my Aeris Mako fins for several years and have been very happy with the fit and performance of them, so when my wife needed new fins she got a pair of them as well. Excellent product, very durable, and it would be difficult to find a better value in a dive fin. You can buy less expensive fins, but they wont hold up to shore dives and repeated donning/doffing like the Aeris fins do. We typically make 20-25 dives in a week of diving, both shore and boat dives, so our fins are on and off constantly. So far, no broken straps and no lost fins. The fins have plenty of power and all-day wear comfort with classic scuba fin styling but without gimmicks or gadgets.

Very comfortable. Good fit with booties. Easy on/off. Im no expert but these fins give me the best performance with the least amount of torque on my legs of any Ive ever used. The flexible rubber panel in the center of the fin seems to be the key feature in making this design work so well. Maybe the vent holes help too, but they are fast and smooth.

Rating: Great Fins!!
Reviewer: Steven Anselmi
Great set of fins. Minimal effort per stroke. No muscle fatigue - even after a 60 minute dive. Straps allowed for easy one-handed removal - even with a rocking dive boat. Visible color through silty water a bonus!

Rating: Good Fins for Great Value

Just returned from a week long dive trip in Cuba (12 dives) with the brand new Aeris Mako fins. They worked up to the expectation and more. Lightweight and smooth action, I really dont have much to complain about them - especially for the price. If I must be critical of the fins, the grooved rubber adjustable strap and the plastic clips did come loose couple of times during the dives jumping off the boat. I would definitely recommend spring straps with these. I wear size 10 mens shoes and grabbed size 7-9 fins - they fit well.

Great fins for the price. The XLs really do fit the shoe sizes they claim to fit. I wish the foot pocket was closed all the way, since tight straps tend to extrude your toes out of the opening.

Rating: Great fins
Reviewer: Lance B.
I recently upgraded to these fins. Spent a week in baja snorkeling and scuba diving, and these fins performed great at both. They have a nice smooth action. They are also light, which makes packing easier. For the price I cant imagine you can find any fins better than these.

Rating: Good fin at a reasonable price
Reviewer: Charles P.  -  View all my reviews
Just returned from the Caribbean doing a weeks worth of dives. This was our first dives after becoming certified so putting gear together is an expensive chore. The response and comfort of the fin where good. I imagine there may be better fins out there, but at a premium price. For the recreational/new diver, I dont see much better at this price point.

You would purchase the small. US 7-9 size. A IK 8 equates into a US 8.5.

I am interested in the Aeris Mako fins. I have an 8 1/2 shoe size with triple E width. Will the size Small 7-9 fit me with cold water boots on, or will I need a larger size for the width of my foot? Thanks for you help in advance.

  • Chris:

I have a size 9.5 foot and will be wearing wadefishing boots similar to your warmwater boots. What size would you recommend for the Aeris Mako Adj Strap fins? Thanks

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Chris, going by your information you would need a size 10-12 mens.

  • Bill:

I noticed Aeris makes both full foot and open heel fins. What are some of the pros/cons of each style.Ive worn out the low end full foot pair I have (both tore where my big toe pushed against the top of the shoe.. Other than that and being loose because they were a little too big, they worked well.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Bill, with full foot fins you wear with your bare feet or a thin sock. As for the adjustable fins you would need to wear booties because of the adjustable strap in the back.

  • bill:

I wear a size 13 shoe. What would be best for me to get Ajustable strap or full foot fins. We snokel 2 weeks a year in Grand cayman.I need to up grade my old full foot fins. thank you

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

An adjustable fin will give you more range of sizes and styles, but will require you to wear a boot. Both are ordered according to your shoe size.

  • cherry:

Hello- I noticed these fins state boots are required. Can you explain why? Would it be uncomfortable to go without?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Open heel fins are designed with a foot pocket that takes into account the use of boots. The main reason is for use in colder water, but also, the heel strap and design of the foot pocket will cause blisters without the use of a boot.

  • Dave:

Hi Guys. I have a pair of these fins-great! We want a set for my mrs. She wears a water type bungee lace up bootie size 8 [ a little big], womans. Recommend what size fin please. thanks Dave

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Order according the size shoe you wear. The fins are already adjusted to wear a boot.

  • Boyd:

I already have the Aeris Velocity X 3 fins size XL and wear a size 11 boot. I thought the Aeris Mako would size the same but thats not the case. The Velocity X 3 XL 11-12, the Mako XL 12-15? Should I be looking at a smaller size in the Mako? This will be the first time purchasing fins I did not first try on for fit.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The manufacturers always rate their foot pocket on what they consider normal "sneaker-style" shoe sizing and recommend you purchase your fins using that sizing. If you wear a size 11 shoe, the manufacturer recommends the REG size fin in this case based off their chart.

  • adam:

    how long are these?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Adam, the length of these fins are 24" from the tip of the fin to the end of the foot pocket.

  • Katheryn:

I have a 8.5 womens shoe size. Do I go with the womens 6-8 or womens 8-10. Plan on buying the ONeill 3mm Tropical Low Top Medium Sole Dive Boots.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Katheryn, I would suggest going with the size womens 8-10.

Your equipment should enhance, not hinder the joy and exhilaration of diving.

The Mako Fin is a precision blend of ergonomics, hydrodynamics and materials technology created for ultimate comfort, efficiency and performance. The Mako blade's flexible center area creates a massive water channel by utilizing the entire surface area of the blade and foot pocket accelerating water over the blade. The engineered channels and side rails direct water flow off the tips of the fin without allowing water to 'spill' from the sides of the blade for uncompromising power and improved efficiency. A series of high performance vents reduce stress while while accelerating water over the blade.

A generous, yet streamlined foot pocket fits a wide range of boots styles while significantly reducing drag. Fins are extremely lightweight for increased performance and ease of travel, and come equipped with an easy adjust quick-release buckle fin strap assemblies. Fins are available in four sizes and come in six color choices. AERIS Mako Fins are covered by a 12-month limited warranty.

Propulsion Enhancing Vents (PEV) Fin Technology

Faster and more efficient, our PEV technology maintains comfort and control while enabling you to exert less effort, stress and strain with each stride.
During the fin stroke, water flow is directed through our exclusive Power Enhancing Vents (PEV's) and off the fin tips, creating lift and forward propulsion. This helps reduce the stress on the divers leg while accelerating water over the blade; resulting in increased velocity. Water movement through the PEV's also reduce lateral movement of the fin (wasted energy), increasing the efficiency of the klick.
