Rating: Best Fins Ive used
Reviewer: Wing T.
Its my first time trying a split fins, and I absolutely fell in love with it. They are more efficient than the traditional paddle fins as I feel that each of my kick is more powerful and less strenuous than any other fins ive tried. Since this is the only split fins brand ive tried, I cant say that the Atomic fins are better than the others. However, Ive done some research prior to the purchase, and the Atomic split fins seems to have pretty consistent positive reviews.

Questions and Answers for Atomic Split Adjustable Strap Fins:

  • michael:

how long are atomic split fins? I need a new gear bag and I am trying to get the smallest one that will work. Thanks

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Unfortunately the manufacturer rarely gives retailers the overall length of the fins. The Atomic split fins use a pretty traditional sized blade compared to other manufacturers running between 24 to 30 inches in length.

  • jim:

what is the difference between. atomic atomic split adjustable straps fins. atomic high energy adjustable strap split fins.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The different designs offer fins of different stiffness, with the High Energy being stiffer.

  • balch:

I wear an 8.5 (US)size shoe- the size of the foot for the atomic split fin diverges at that size (6-8) vs.(9-10). What is the appropriate size to purchase?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

You'll want to round up to the next nearest size to fit. Going down will mean using a fin designed for a foot that is also a great deal smaller than yours.

  • Alex:

How far out should the booties stick out of the pocket if fin is properly sized? Is sticking out 2 3/4-3 inches too much? I have a size 11 Tusa short bootie that fits my 10.5 size wide feet fine.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The foot can be anywhere from all the way in the foot pocket to hanging past the back of the pocket as far as the arch of your foot.

How Atomic Aquatics SplitFins Work

SplitFin Wings “Slice” Through the Water
Traditional paddle fins work by pushing water rearward. As a paddle fin is pushed through the water, much of the water spills over the top surface of the blade and sticks to it, creating drag. Extra kicking effort is required to overcome that drag. The Atomic SplitFin slices through the water with two wing-shaped surfaces, creating lift and forward propulsion more like a propeller. Any water traveling over the top of the blade is funneled into and out of the opening (split) between the wings. Drag is reduced, effort is reduced, and efficiency is increased.

Propeller-Fin™ Technology Moves You Faster
Atomic Aquatics SplitFins use Propeller-Fin Technology to deliver ultra-high speeds with a small-range rapid flutter kick. This works in the same manner that increasing the RPM on a boat propeller accelerates a boat to high speeds.

Multi-Composite Plastics And Other Uniquely Atomic Features
The Atomic signature is our use of exotic materials specifically designed to improve performance. We developed multi-composite plastics for the SplitFins to maximize the efficiency of the kick with less fatigue. Flexible side rails and a stiff foot pocket are combined with stiff battens in the blade to control the flex pattern for optimum performance. Our patented EZ-LOK Buckle System is one of those distinct Atomic features that make divers love us even more.

Atomic Split Fins

Still among the most exciting of all recent innovations for divers, the Split Fin allows divers the most energy efficient and comfortable dives possible and leaves very little room for improvement. A statement such as that only serves as a challenge for the designers at Atomic Aquatics.

It is already known that Split Fins deliver more propulsion with less drag and kick with less effort. Reducing the stress and strain of the kick results in greater sustained speed, power and comfort. Independent testing has also confirmed that the Split Fin design significantly reduces air consumption. With that as their starting point the engineers at Atomic went to work. They designed and patented the EZ-LOK Buckle a one-touch release system that instantly and conveniently detaches the entire buckle assembly from the fin. Users can then easily re-attach the buckle without having to readjust the fin-strap, making it an ideal solution for removing the Split Fin in the water or securing it prior to entering the water.

The Atomic Aquatics Split Fin is designed to enable users to swim faster and farther while using less energy. This is accomplished through a number of innovations. This includes Atomics’ combination of highly-resilient materials and the extended Power Rail which is engineered for long-life and high function. A slightly longer blade size provides added leverage making the Split Fin ideal for divers looking to move quickly and efficiently through the water with less effort.

The unique Flex Battens in the fins' blade help users achieve the utmost performance no matter what style of kick they are using. The split design delivers better propulsion and lift, resulting in greater speeds, something divers seek when kicking into a current. Added to this is an anatomically correct foot pocket and materials used in construction to offer the diver exactly the right amount of resistance to maximize their kicking effort. Available in a variety of colors and sizes from small through X-Large Atomic Aquatics have designed a split fin that even the fish will envy.
